I have been riding Step On 1 for one season and the Genesis version for 2 seasons now and I cannot confirm these issues. Entering the Genesis is no issue at all for me. However, disappointing and frustrating to me was that one toe clip broke off first day. But this has not happened again since.
A friend of mine had exactly the same issue -- a crack in that plastic piece. However, to Burton's credit, I must say, it was promptly replaced under the warranty.
I had the feeling I wouldn't be the only one. Sadly mine broke at the top of a peak (after hiking for an hour to get there). I did a makeshift superglue/tape fix, which I was later informed voided the warrant 😢 Hope your buddy is enjoying the new pair and has better luck 🤞🏻
@@snowboardingdays Yep, the speed with which Burton replied and sent the replacement was also kind of an indicator. ;-) The new bit (whole highback) is ok so far, but we shall see in a season or two how it goes. I must say, even though my System Pro by SLab are faaaar less techy, I'm quite happy with them and with the fact that I have zero issues riding with my trousers over the boots.
Tbh they don’t affect the riding that much. I don’t ride hard or anything but I think I just used it for day without the hammock and wasn’t that much difference. Credit to Burton they did eventually fix it for me. But it’s not like a strap broke and the binding is unusable- but yeah the extra cost is not worth it. Especially as there’s always a chance you can snap it off.
I was looking at the Genius bindings and you confirmed my worries. With the hook stuck in the net. Got the standed one. Plus... The nidecker Don't fit all boots.. Some work better then others. Take your boot to the shop if you're looking at them. There is a video with a guy explaining it if you look.. Toe caps don't fit all boots. And tread on the boots make it harder to get in and out .
Hey. Great points, thanks. You went with the standard Step Ons or the standard/reflex genesis? True - Supermatics may be less compatible if you’re at either extreme of the size range too. I’m lucky in that I’m bang in the middle of the range for size L - so my Burton, DC, 32 and Vans boots all fit well. If you’re towards the upper limit, you may need to size up, or try them on first as you say. Takes a little tweaking of the straps etc too when you first get them. Once you’re dialled in, they’re pretty sweet.
@snowboardingdays I got the standed step in.. The new 2025 step in binding is a new shape also...the forward lean like the cartel. The supermatic problem. It is the toe box shape. As the toe strap is in a set position. When you set up the strap, the bottom ridge on the front ... has more pressure than the Ridge on the top off the toe strap. Pushing your boot down . Which digs your boot tread into the foot bed and makes it hard to get out The video shows him straping a boot in, and the problems..on 2 boots. And 1 shaped boot that works. It just saves people buying another boot to fit those bindings And the misinformation people and the marketing machine...that any boot will fit. Search nidecker supermatic problems. Cheers
I must say. I'm a Step-on X rider (snowboarding since 1988)and thought that there'd be yet another of those Step-ons bashing videos that many biased riders have been making. However - this was an actual, well backed criticism about an obvious and clear fail in design. That would be easily recommended by rounding the top part of the hammock over the highback top and making the heel cleat entry channel higher and wider. A good take on a real design issue. I hope you've contacted B regarding this?
Thanks man, appreciate it. We try to ground all of our reviews in real experiences, rather than trends and hype (not always easy). I've spoken to a few reps. Apparently the newer versions are being refined... I guess that remains to be seen! Thanks for watching. Have a great season!
I had to zip-tie mine back together. Broke within 2 days. The zip-tie solution is superior to Burton's original attempt, which sounds hoki, but it works great!
I had the est Genesis x with straps, changed to the new Genesis step ons.. I like them but I feel they are softer and less responsive. I do feel sometimes I'm not fully locked in so I don't push as hard.. both set ups wih custom x.
@@Neguz305 totally agree. Felt slightly disconcerting at speed compared to the regular reflex and EST genesis. Especially if you’re used to the “x”. Sounds like you’re keeping them though?
Agreed, it's a beaut! Telos are relatively unknown, but their designs are awesome and the team have decades of experience building boards. Full review of the Chillum if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/sprKUZ7I8PA/видео.htmlsi=Q_vU0PvzDlmcvPN3
Seems like the hammock highback is not always a good idea. I bought a pair of Genesis X Reflex size L in 2017 and it was impossible to center my size 13 boots. I had to write multiple emails to Burton to make them admit (and realise) that there was a problem. They then sent me a pair of Malavita highbacks to make the binding work with my boots. In the end I prefer my old Cartels 2011...
Yep, these days I'm edging more and more towards the "less parts = less things that can break" camp. Ultimately, my Cartels and Rome Katanas are way more reliable and I barely ride my Genesis Reflex these days. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts to be phased out of Burton's lineup. I'm yet to have a response from them about the issues with the Step On Genesis though 🤔
I agree that they just don't ride as well, but they are not meant to be between the step on and step on x. They are meant to be softer than the original.
had step on for almost 2 seasons , step on X with dc boots then sold it for regular step on with photon bindings then sold it. i had this problem of heel lift, I even tried downsizing boots, adjusting the highback, or even placed some jbars none of them worked. sold it and got vans infuse + unions atlas and never looked back :) the nidecker supermatic is interesting tho but heavy
Why wouldn't you use step on x as a daily driver? I was thinking about buying capita super doa or never summer proto ultra. What bindings would you recommend?

Returned mine after 2-days for similar reasons. Went back to the original EST version.
Good call. Did you have the same issues?

Insane right. Not exactly cheap gear, especially once you factor in the step-on boots!
Still, Burton make some great gear... just maybe not this one.

Good point. My bad!
I'd still (personally) avoid them given the durability issues.

Ya, the supermatics have that reputation of being heavier, but in our testing it wasn't an issue.
Clew bindings?

Do you think the same issues will arise with the new step on Genesis EST version? Would you still stick with the Reflex\X Reflex?
Personally, I'll be sticking with the reflex... however I'll hopefully get the chance to test the new Genesis very soon!
