Hey guys was faucet in the snowboard movie way back in the early 90s called riders on the storm?? I'm 45 and I ride now and that is my ultimate favorite most amazing movie. I grew up working at a snowboard shop in the 90s as a kid and I swore he was in the movie with long hair talking about sprayin and chalet-ing as he walked through a European or something city. That movie changed my life as a kid. I was an 8th grader getting my first job at a snowboard and ski shop called the white wolf in Minnesota here. I worked there for a long time. I was a short kid poor family and I got my first board a Sims 161 full camber snowboard. Crappy bindings and Sorel boots . And I loved to ride!!! And that movie riders on the storm was my VHS fantasy world just dreaming of riding for the rest of my life. I rode till 2006 and now my first year back . I'm now disabled not rich but I'm back riding my first year back. I did amazing things in life but now I'm going thru hardships. But I spent the last two years getting physically and financially ready for this year. I bought a season pass to my local resort and I'm having the best time. And I'll watch that movie on RUclips whenever I just need to remember...!!
Regarding the Cartel X and the ratcheting system. One of the reasons why the single/normal ratchets are better than the Double Take is that the Double Takes have a propensity to freezing and breaking in some conditions. During heli drops or sled/snowmobile drops or cat skiing, for exmaple. You go from valley bottom to a high altitude relatively quickly with the board in a basket on the outside of the helicopter or cat or snowmobile. And water or wet snow will freeze inside the mechanism, causing the spring to break. This prevents the ratchet from either releasing or ratcheting = bad day. This happened to me multiple times with the Double Takes. I eventually switched to the Cartel X with the normal ratchets and problem solved.
I’m gonna run the ultras on my freestyle board and the new Force’s on the all mountain board this year. Always wanted to try union bindings and never did for whatever reason, so this is the year!
You have two great bindings there. Not sure if @anetokille has ridden the NEW forces....but thay are very, very responsive to the foot movement and have a great perfomance to comfort ratio. you've choosen well.
I would like to see Nidecker Supermatics come with a bushing/pad like they have on some of their Flow bindings. I ride last years, but am looking to get the Carbons for my 2nd all mountain board. Would definitely like that as a feature for sure though
Any recommendations what to replace a Nitro „The Machine“ with? Don‘t want less dampening and a less stable highback. Mostly riding a 162 aviator 2.0 with it. Had a Nitro Team 3 years ago when i started Snowboarding and split the fucking highback from top down. And i religiously fold the highback down, so no chairlift involved.
Haha.....Union did their initial media release 2 days after we shot this episode. I've been riding them this fall already. Should have a review on them here by mid December.
I had Burton bindings for years...Mission or Cartel...1x one buckle torn. Then i switched to the Union Falcor...2 buckles broken, highback Y broken. Didn't convince me at all.
@tribute boardshop as you guys talk a lot about (and rightfully so) the extended baseplate binding contact points of Now and the Union Force binding, it would be great to hear feedback on the Arbor Cypress binding, especially the X-Base design baseplate which I feel does this better than any other binding. Really extended contact points with a narrow mini-disc 2x4 waist, it allows natural board flex/rotation but INSANELY good toe/heel energy transfer. The highback is great too, only negative is the current ankle strap which is a bit narrow in my opinion.
Ok can we talk about step in binding for larger footed individuals? The back of at least the burtons apears to stick out a lot. I wear a size 11.5us boot. I had tried a burton genesis a couple of years back and found I really couldnt center my boot with out the back of the binding dragging. Would you recommend step ons to a rider with larger feet and if so what size board would I need to accomadate them? Based on your recomendations and another channels recomendation I have tried out a union and a jones binding. Both work great with my boot size with union being adjustable. But to be honest the Jones/now/yes binding is the best. The way the heal cup is up higher so great. Its the only binding set up where my boot will touch the floor first, ratherbthen the heel cup. Just thought I would share that I find the now frame the best for at least 11.5us boot size. But would you see a problem with step ons in this size? I see burton has partnered with union to release an atlas step on. Thoughts?
Agree with your observations there - the Union Design will address some of this but we wont see that to market until likely this Feb? Angles will also help with the amount of help overhang so if you try a set again - do mess around there . Board width of 26.7 or greater is also important here!
@tributeboardshop cool cool, it'll be probably 2 seasons before it's new binding time again, hopefully. I had my doubts anything under 27 would work. At least with the burton, as I had issues with the genesis. I'll be sitting back and watching how the step ons progress over the next 2 years with more brands involved now. But approaching 50 and step ons are looking pretty nice.
@@UncIe_Drew You'll love the new Union Atlas step-ons !!! And yes, boards over 27cm for sure....you're liklily in Customn Board territory to get exactly what you want.
I like EST on the channel, and I think the Lexa X is their best binding with straps. Yeah I'm a guy, but it's got the 45% glass and doesn't have the hinge. I like the double take hammocks as well. Awesome response and board feel... You can have your cake and eat it too! (I really don't like Re:Flex).

Truly 3njoy your show and banter. Keep it up.
We review all bindings that are sent to us - however some brands wont play ball and others don't make the cut ! This season we can say more brands have seen value in what we do so more models will be tested!
Love marks explanation of step on to! Test rode them twice, love them. I did have some boot pain on top of right foot though. Not sure what that’s from ? Crazy how much negative chatter there is … ( I guess that’s internet opinion, without even riding them lol .. )
I rode Step Ons exclusively at the resort last season and love them. I'll be on them again this year. There are a limited selection of boots and fit is even more important when the boot is your binding. So try 'em on and don't buy 'em too big.
Not sure what exactly is giving you the foot pain. I do know that unless you have VERY large ankles, you will want to put in some J-bars or similar between your liner and boot shell to increase heel-hold down in the boot. once that is accomplished you wont have to crank down the top strap as hard.
Great video! just got a hometown hero 156W, what do you guys think about a cartel X EST and Photon boot pairing? love to carve hard, find side hits, and find the untouched snow in the trees--a few park laps too!

@@georgeg1395 More low profile heel cup on the atlas, and the gas pedal to boot connection I also prefer the Atlas. Thats IMO.....some folks really just love the "feel" of a burtoin binding over anything else.
I had a set last year. LOVE THEM. They have a new compund of EVA that they use as the base that feels incredible under-foot. They are very LIGHTWEIGHT too !!! If you have a Burton , or another board with the channel mounting system, GET THEM !
Union announced them to the media 2 days after filmed this epiode. I've been on them all Fall. They are WORTHY !! Look for a review on them soon ( Dec )
I have been inching further forward this past year, but still prefer a more back stancce. I like lots of nose to "dive into" when initiating turns. ( I do this rather aggressively ) From there I use the middle of the board a lot for edge hold. I like the feeling of a shorter tail that i can maipulate easily, especially in softer snow and pow.
@markfawcett9654 nice one thanks. Blows my mind that I can converse with a guy that I used to see in videos/magazines back in the day. Got to love the Internet for that. Need more Tribute Lounge 🤘👴 🏴
Question about step ons - Ive see a few people remove the high back. In the specific case with step ons the heel turn is pretty much engaged from the toe clips so would you even notice if the high back is there or not?
You guys have issues with stepon ion boots breaking down? On Second pair and hard toes side carves the boots crunch over enough that the boa ratchet gets crushed into my foot. Any workarounds/products?
Yes , We have seen this and have focused on the Photon or Swath in Store as to avoid that design issue - You don't really need a boot that stiff with this system as the fulcrum point is so low , the upper of the boot doesn't play into the response as much!
@ Omg, I don’t even remember writing that, I do remember I had a lot to drink when I watched that video. Plus I also have the Ultras and love them, but the Atlas are more my thing. I take back what I said! Keep preaching Shane! I apologize for the rude comment.
Hi, thanks for the video. For the Jones mercury binding, would you say that NOW Select Pro is it's equivalent? And if there's any difference between these two?
Haha....I was just replying to the comment above about them. Union released them to the media 2 days after we filmed this episode. We will have a episode on them coming out in the nest weeks. I've been riding them all fall already. They're sick !!
I'll visit tribute this season. Ride the Beautiful BC Canada 🇨🇦 Visit Mark and Shane. Say hi and pick up few things from tribute shop. Deck and Binding. Tribute cap and wears.
How was the foot fatigue with the Nidecker Supermatic? I’m looking for a binding with minimal foot fatigue but would also like to have step-in bindings. I’m down to choosing between Jones Orion vs Nidecker.
Hey! Thanks for the content. Mark, what's the step on set boots + bindings you daily use? Is it worth it to spend the extra bucks on the genesis? Thanks
@@_PadelAddiction I'm really into the photons , As I like the boa's. If you dont mind speed lacing, the Ions are for sure awesome. Swath are great if you like softer boots. Yes, they get softer after the 1st few days of riding. Thats why I start with a stiffer boots from the get-go.
@@stufish73 I think you've already said that about Rome bindings above? Rome are the best out there and the only ones I fully trust. Far superior build quality to Unions.
I don’t know why the term “high back” annoys me. But it does. I think it’s because there’s no “low back” so maybe all we need to say is “back”. Back in the 90s did we say that? Anyway…. Burton cartel was really around back in the early 2000s? I bought a pair of customs in like 1998 and there was def no cartel back then…but Burton really blew up from 2001-2008 so their line grew substantially. Anyone know what Terje’s up to?

15.400 subscribers... you deserve to have a 100k more imho. Greetings from Germany! :) Btw what do you think about the StepOn ESTs?
I had a set last year. LOVE THEM. They have a new compund of EVA that they use as the base that feels incredible under-foot. They are very LIGHTWEIGHT too !!! If you have a Burton , or another board with the channel mounting system, GET THEM !
Loving the 1910 stuff
We are blessed that Jamie lives in our town, and is in the shop all the time. Such a legend, and great human !
@@markfawcett9654tell him there are some shops in New Hampshire.
No Atlas Step On? ;)
Union announced them to the media 2 days after filmed this epiode. I've been on them all Fall. They are WORTHY !! Look for a review on them soon ( Dec )
Mark Fawcett, I wanted to ask why you set your back foot position so far back? Thanks, Alex.
How is the Jones Orion vs the Mercury?
@@warrens4808 mercury is more
Responsive - Orion is a more powder riding design !
Dont let angrysnowboarder see your Burton step on review!
AS skids his turns and is as dense as east coast spray on ice rinks.
@@josephkimmet2076 oh the slander
Have you weighed the Nidecker Supermatic and Supermatic Carbon?
Not on a scale - its noticeable but not in a way that makes us feel we absolutely NEED the carbon.... if that makes sense ?
Not a huge difference in weight, carbon is more stiff tho
Question about step ons - Ive see a few people remove the high back. In the specific case with step ons the heel turn is pretty much engaged from the toe clips so would you even notice if the high back is there or not?
Depends on your heel turn technique, how you use your feet etc. I NEED highbacks !!!
Union force or ultra for an all mountain binding? Little bit of freestyle around the mountain but no park riding
thinking about either Burton Cartels or Burton StepOns. For All-Mountain with an option in Park also... :( dont know what to pick
What do yall think about Fix magnum???
Fix is a CANADIAN company. Great folks there. Super worthy bindings, and love supporting the Broz in Squamish ( Jason Broz is the owner haha)
You guys never test japanese product... Check Flux binding plz
I know they make great bindings. Awiating them to send us gear to test. They send em' , we test em' !
If there was ever only one video that Shane cannot speak of the ultras, kind of getting tired of it
Unlikely, can you blame the guy for being passionate?
@
Omg, I don’t even remember writing that, I do remember I had a lot to drink when I watched that video. Plus I also have the Ultras and love them, but the Atlas are more my thing. I take back what I said! Keep preaching Shane! I apologize for the rude comment.
The Mercury is my daily driver
Super binding...and the skate tech is great for riders who shed A LOT. Notably less jarring compared to anything else and easy on the feet.
Would you recommend Falcors or Force on the new PYL Uninc? Using it as my powder board for Colorado and the annual Baldface trip. Thanks fellas.
Both are amazing - if budget allows go Falcor for sure!
Hi, thanks for the video.
For the Jones mercury binding, would you say that NOW Select Pro is it's equivalent? And if there's any difference between these two?
Really just athestics....
Great vid as always. Have you tested the Superdoa? How does it compare to the Aeronaut?
Where's the Atlas Step-on?
Haha....I was just replying to the comment above about them. Union released them to the media 2 days after we filmed this episode. We will have a episode on them coming out in the nest weeks. I've been riding them all fall already. They're sick !!
Νew redesigned Union 2025 Falcor for the win..!
I'll visit tribute this season. Ride the Beautiful BC Canada 🇨🇦 Visit Mark and Shane. Say hi and pick up few things from tribute shop. Deck and Binding. Tribute cap and wears.
Thanks for the kind words and viewership. Hope to see you this winter.
How was the foot fatigue with the Nidecker Supermatic? I’m looking for a binding with minimal foot fatigue but would also like to have step-in bindings. I’m down to choosing between Jones Orion vs Nidecker.
The pressure displacement on the Supermatic strap is really well done ! A definite win there
New Tribute??
Not this season I'm afraid.
Hey! Thanks for the content. Mark, what's the step on set boots + bindings you daily use? Is it worth it to spend the extra bucks on the genesis? Thanks
The comfort upgrade is pretty nice - Hi Back is amazing on that one!
@@tributeboardshop what about boots? ion? or are the swath ok for a more loose feel. do they hold through time or do they turn too soft quickly?
@@_PadelAddiction I'm really into the photons , As I like the boa's. If you dont mind speed lacing, the Ions are for sure awesome. Swath are great if you like softer boots. Yes, they get softer after the 1st few days of riding. Thats why I start with a stiffer boots from the get-go.
gonna watch now
Have you tried the Genesis + Photon step on combo at Baldface? Or would you stick with traditional strap bindings?
We Have, with zero issues!
No rome bindings?
My Rome Katanas broke an ankle strap within 2 days of using them. Wouldn't trust them again.
Rome vices snapped a base plate on a powder day…never again
Black Labels with K2 Thraxis boots. #angry 😮
@@stufish73 I think you've already said that about Rome bindings above? Rome are the best out there and the only ones I fully trust. Far superior build quality to Unions.
@@jaybartlett2561💀
I don’t know why the term “high back” annoys me. But it does. I think it’s because there’s no “low back” so maybe all we need to say is “back”.
Back in the 90s did we say that? Anyway….
Burton cartel was really around back in the early 2000s? I bought a pair of customs in like 1998 and there was def no cartel back then…but Burton really blew up from 2001-2008 so their line grew substantially.
Anyone know what Terje’s up to?

Whats your take on the union atlas pros?
Some flux bindings?🤔
I know they make great bindings. Awiating them to send us gear to test. They send em' , we test em' !
Not sure if it just me but union buckles been failing me for so many times. None of them survived over a month without issues
this is the 1st comment about this. Interesting. This is happening on 2022 models and later for you ??
Rome Cleaver and katana.
Lots of requests for this binding. As soon as they send us a pair, we'll test em'.
Have you guys tried the CLEW bindings? I have some and really like them but I'm curious what your opinion is on them. In my research the CLEW way out performed the Burton step-on 🤷🏻♂️
Will be cool to see your comments on the new stepOn collab between burton&union...new industry standard!?
Still a very Cool Show you feed us! Nice Job! As always!
Keep on teasing us with all those nice tools/toys that make us stay young...since 40years..this year....Asstie
Goggles next 🔥
Nidecker would sell a bazillion bindings if they sold those Supermatics in individual lefts or rights.
Nice...guys thx!! Love a full video on the 2025 step on full range... or have you done it? Watching from Australia!
Thats 2 requests for that in here. We'll look into it. I'll be seeing the 2026 gear soon and will try and make something happen. Thanks for your viewership !
@ sick!! You’re welcome, you guys have great content and flow going! Keep going 💯🎉
Bent Metal rules.
flux should be covered instead of burton
what about clew bindings guys !?
🎉 Rad
The falcor straps! 🤌🏼 Just try them.
I don't know what it is but Union bindings, and I've tried them all, they killlllll my feet.
Not the new union models, force or ultra. The straps feel like nothing exists
@ I tried this years Unions at a trade show earlier this year. They just don’t work with my feet. I have a lot of friends that ride unions and never had any problems.
@@TETONSNOBOTS everyone has different feet, and some outside the average "mould". Sounds like that might be you. Want that dope union feel , but no top strap ? Try the new Union ATLAS Step-Ons when they hit the shelves later this winter !
@@markfawcett9654 you’re right, I had the same thought earlier this week. My foot is a size 8 which is basically in between a size small and medium. I tried the step ons at SIA the first year Burton announced them but wasn’t a fan of how locked in I felt. Everyone I know loves the Step On tech tho.
I agree. I had Union Atlas and I couldn’t stand them. They constantly cramped my feet. My front foot especially felt like it wanted just a little give, but the Atlas wouldn’t budge. And there was no absorption of bumps and chatter. They were also heavy. I sold them and got some skate tech. I like a surf/skate feel.
Shh🤫 union step ons.
Don't have to Shhhhh and more. They let the cat out of the bag. ( we kind of did too on my Union binding HQ trip ) I've been on them all Fall....LOVE THEM !!
@ would like to see a long term review, to know about any differences.
People complaining about pow in a stepon. Do they ride with snow in their strapons?!?
Only good binding on this list is the force but they lost all validity once they pulled out step on’s.
Try em before you knock em
@ uh no
i snowboard everyday for work. burton is trash. nidecker is the fisher price of snowboarding. and how is Tech Nine not on this list at all?
terrible.
No bent metal love😢
Rome is the best.
What does 'going vector' mean 🤣
haha...very true. I should have provided more context. Essientially using the material in specific directions to create structure in the manner you want it, and no material in other areas. This also let him make the highback flex asymetriaclly. ( stiffer laterally exteriorly , and softer inwards ).
