Thank you, very informative. I never used a hard drive before, so I have a question. Can I download a software program onto this external hard drive and work from the external hard drive or do I need to copy it back to my laptop in order to use it? Hope this makes since. Waiting for your reply.

LACIE IS ONLY A BRAND, AS APPLE, HP AND SO, BECAUSE THE HARD DRIVE IS A SEAGATE HARD DRIVE INSIDE. I HAVE A RUGGED MINI AND AFTER A YEAR IS NOT WORKING MORE, TOO SAD.
These are still going strong for me, I edit videos off of them and haven't had any issues yet. The solid orange one is the mini, I love its size and portability. Thanks for watching!
I had been using a WD 2TB that never failed, so I bought the same brand in 4TB. I updated my OS and suddenly the 4TB isn't being recognized on any computer. (Now I have to take that up with WD of course!) I'm bummed, but ready to upgrade to this one. I really appreciate that you explained what you are using each one for because I assumed it would be the other way around, but it makes sense to work off the smaller one and then transfer the finished video/photos to the larger one for storing. Thank you for your review.
Thanks for watching! Did you get your WD drive to work again? I've had this same problem and just needed to remount the drive and on another occasion reinstall the driver from the manufacturer website.
@@sychedup Thank you for responding! Yes, it turned out to be the cord, so they sent me a new one! I also purchased a SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD 2TB and am editing my videos exclusively on that now. Just watched this and bought the Rugged SSD. Guess they don't come with the mini black USB-C to USB-A cable anymore which is a bummer because I was hoping to move info from my old computer to the new one I just purchased. Bummer because I was hoping for the two stubby cables to help keep the clutter down in my backpack.
Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between the LaCie rugged MINI and the regular version? Is the mini slower or have any disadvantages? Thank yous so much!!!
Hi Kelley, The smaller drive (the rugged SSD) is a solid-state drive and has significantly faster upload and download speeds which is why it is more expensive even though it has less storage space. I use mine mostly for video editing so the faster drive def comes in handy. Are you looking to purchase a drive? And what's the main thing you'll use it for? If it's mostly for storage you prob don't need as much upload/download speed.
@@sychedup Sorry, I was not talking about the SSD drive. I was asking about HDD drive. LaCie has released the rugged mini HDD drive (HDD) and also a normal version drive which is also HDD (its physical appearance is bigger than the mini). I was wondering what is the point of buying the HDD drive that is physically bigger than the physically smaller HDD drive? Here is a link to the "regular" drive that I was talking about. www.apple.com/shop/product/HNY12ZM/A/lacie-5tb-rugged-usb-c-usb-30-portable-external-hard-drive?fnode=bba6e13802193059530174467dd82b5f47e0971e6693145aaa7ca923aa697d16932b3341cbf94d1ed2e46fe338ce0be2f846e46de1e8c234226fb103832ac9480e06df0a5068ebb0c54688f4d02167a9142963dc1e2ee086b0faaa4931e11351 It is very confusing to me since if the function is the same, then what is the point of having a physically bigger drive? Who doesn't like compact/mini drives? It would for sure save space on the desktop! Is it because that the "regular" version has thunderbolt 3 connect while the mini doesn't?
I recently bought a "lacie rugged mini 4tb" and I'm afraid it has some problems since as soon as it is inserted to transfer the data it starts to make a slight vibration ... I hope this is normal ... thanks for your attention, I hope someone can help me
