Can I download a software program onto this external hard drive and work from the external hard drive or do I need to copy it back to my laptop in order to use it? Hope this makes since. I bought a WD easybook a week ago. From the moment I first connected it, an error code popped up. It said drivers could not be installed.
    Basically it’s now a useless paper weight.

    I had been using a WD 2TB that never failed, so I bought the same brand in 4TB. I updated my OS and suddenly the 4TB isn't being recognized on any computer. (Now I have to take that up with WD of course!) I'm bummed, but ready to upgrade to this one. I really appreciate that you explained what you are using each one for because I assumed it would be the other way around, but it makes sense to work off the smaller one and then transfer the finished video/photos to the larger one for storing. Thank you for your review.

Guess they don't come with the mini black USB-C to USB-A cable anymore which is a bummer because I was hoping to move info from my old computer to the new one I just purchased. Hi, I was wondering what is the difference between the LaCie rugged MINI and the regular version? Is the mini slower or have any disadvantages? Thank yous so much!!!

    • @sychedup
      @sychedup  3 года назад +2

      Hi Kelley, The smaller drive (the rugged SSD) is a solid-state drive and has significantly faster upload and download speeds which is why it is more expensive even though it has less storage space. I use mine mostly for video editing so the faster drive def comes in handy. Are you looking to purchase a drive? And what's the main thing you'll use it for? If it's mostly for storage you prob don't need as much upload/download speed.

    • @yingtianfu
      @yingtianfu 3 года назад +3

      @@sychedup Sorry, I was not talking about the SSD drive. I was asking about HDD drive. LaCie has released the rugged mini HDD drive (HDD) and also a normal version drive which is also HDD (its physical appearance is bigger than the mini). I was wondering what is the point of buying the HDD drive that is physically bigger than the physically smaller HDD drive? Here is a link to the "regular" drive that I was talking about. www.apple.com/shop/product/HNY12ZM/A/lacie-5tb-rugged-usb-c-usb-30-portable-external-hard-drive?fnode=bba6e13802193059530174467dd82b5f47e0971e6693145aaa7ca923aa697d16932b3341cbf94d1ed2e46fe338ce0be2f846e46de1e8c234226fb103832ac9480e06df0a5068ebb0c54688f4d02167a9142963dc1e2ee086b0faaa4931e11351
      It is very confusing to me since if the function is the same, then what is the point of having a physically bigger drive? Who doesn't like compact/mini drives? It would for sure save space on the desktop!
      Is it because that the "regular" version has thunderbolt 3 connect while the mini doesn't?

    LaCie is owned by Seagate.
    Seagate's LaCie drives are considerably less reliable than competing products from Kingston, ADATA and Western Digital on annual failure rate basis. Moreover, their 36-month survival rate is also dramatically lower than that of other. which means once they survive one year they are most likely to live up-to 3 years.
    I have 13 SSDs. 5 x M2 & 8 x USB c
    I wont trust Seagate they failed me more than 4 times, 3 times SSDs + 1 HDD, I like to carry em around, but they fail even if i am very careful.
    but I would trust these SDDs.
    Intel Optane 905P - best U.2 SSD.
    Adata SSD SU800 - best price/quality SSD.
    Samsung 970 Pro - best NVMe SSD.
    Toshiba RD400 - best PCIe SSD.
    Adata SX8200 SSD - best M.2 SSD.
    Samsung 860 Pro - best SATA 3 SSD. (speed 2,000MB/s) better than LaCie.
    Intel 750 Series - best U.2 SSD.
    Samsung 860 Evo - best budget SSD.
    HP S700 Pro - best endurance SSD.
    as a software eng. I dislike Seagate's quality. they will ruin your work, they tend to fail more often. google it.

    Great Review! Thinking to get the 4TB version to just backup my PC/work files since it's on sale for Prime Day. I have had the 1TB WD passport for acouple years now (just for work files) and honestly, I dislike it. It's very picky with which usb ports it wants to work/ connect with. I have returned it and got a new one thinking that maybe it was faulty but it also did the same. So I just decided to keep it and use it only on the one port that works. Honestly, it gets annoying, so I'm hoping this this LaCie will work out for me as a backup drive.
