Lon, 2 reasons I like your channel. You do full disclosure. You review of variety of different products. okay I'll give you a third reason as well, you do a good job.
Hey there! I edit videos on a Mac book pro and wanted to ask if you recommend this type of hard drive? You mentioned in the video that if you edit videos, you recommend an external SSD though. What are you're thoughts?
How are the connects on the drive and to the computer? I heard they are loose and people complain about accidentally bumping it and it disconnecting and messing up their files
do you know, if they are going to release one with an integrated cable like the rugged thunderbolt? I really really liked the integrated cable, because it was very sleek and you didn't have to carry around another cable. Maybe you know more...
Nice video lon, i worked at a computer/audio service shop for a big company.. a lot of lacie drives came back being broke i hope they upped their game.
I'm looking into 4K video editing but unfortunately my laptop has only 256GB of storage. What sort of external drive would you suggest that could actually work? (Only HDD!)
Hi Lon, I bought the 4TB version of this but can only get a write speed of around 22MB/s, the HDD is maxing out so I believe that's the bottleneck. I noticed you got 135MB/s. Any suggestions for increasing this speed?
Upon a closer look at the issue, it was the ExFAT partition that was maxing out (even though i was transferring to the NTFS partition). Combining the 2 partitions to make 1 NTFS partition has fixed the issue. Transfer speeds are now over 100MB/s. Thanks for the reply though, keep up the good work with the great reviews.
Yes my 4 and a half year old Macbook Pro is in need of a replacement especially for video editing. It's fine for 1080p stuff but the 4k video is killing it.
It's funny. I have a i7 Notebook. Some expensive Yoga from 2 years ago but it has real Problems to perform well with editing. Esecially with some plugins that don't work at all. So I do all my editing on a workstation. Rener time is about 1/3rd. I do knife and gear reviews. Although you've sparked my interest in tech again. I was kind of dormant for 3 years or so.
Nice review. Thank you. It is now 2021 and the price of this 4TB drive has come down. I have a new 27inch iMac on order and I am looking for a new drive to use for my Time Machine backups. The newer SSD are very cool and their performance "almost" makes this drive laughable. While the SSD would be nice, it is hard to ignore the price difference and I am thinking a spinning drive might be fine for Time Machine. Is my logic flawed? In the year 2021, what drive should I use for Time Machine? Thanks again for a great video.
@@2paths423 FWIW, I ended up with an HDD that I use for Time Machine on the new computer. So far it is working very well. Yours will be fine. Like always it depends on your needs and budget.
Hi Lon. Can you review a new cheap laptop for us please? I've seen an ASUS EeeBook E202 (E202SA), with a Intel® Celeron® N3050, 11.6" display, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD. The only problem in my country, this version runs a Free DOS, so no Windows 10. And one more thing, I have an advice for the future reviews of laptops. Maybe you can add a new test to the list, and that's emulation of android in apps like Remix OS Player to see if we can run Android inside Windows on cheap laptops with only 2GB of RAM. Thanks.
All it has is a (cheap but extremely profitable) rubber bumper wrapped around the drive case. These have lost copyright protection and there are competing products, and irrelevant now we have SSD drives. You could get the same effect by wrapping bubblewrap around the case. btw The force of an adult stepping on the drive is about the same as a car's tyres, but the car sounds dramatic.

I read that the drive in use a higher quality disk drive like a data center equivalent designed to be left on 24/7
vs regular external portable drives

What?! I dunk ALL my new electronics in buckets of water to test them!
Based and techpilled.

Great review. I'm curious to know if these drives use any encryption during their read/write process?
use VeraCrypt

Looks like you're plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

hi Lon love the channel
.
just a quick question in regards to the nvidia sheild tv do you know if you can add a 2TB hard drive to it ?
externally yes
can this work on a chromebook
It should aslong as it's formatted correctly 👍
I've been trying to find reviews where people use PC laptops. Does it effectively work the same, for say, an Asus.
I just want to know how to work it! I plug it in and I get connect to "Time Machine". Then what?
Did you figure it out? I'm having the same problem and can't seem to figure it out.
Wait what is this mechanical HDD not SSD?
Ouch, that price. Seems like a nice product for professional use at the very least.
They need to offer different colors for the sleeve.
Now that the new MacBooks have been announced, are you getting one?

Underneath the pretty case is just a bog standard Seagate.
This is exactly whatI need.

It Helped me a lot to make my choice. Thank you !
I rather go for a SSD for performance. I have the similar LaCie 4TB with twice intermittent problem of not mounting. Scary!!!
Man nice sega genesis!
It's one of the first to roll out of the factory! Purchased it in September of 1989!
