The Eurasian lynx is bigger than the Canadian lynx and will prey on large game, such as deer. They also eat smaller animals, such as rodents and birds.
The Eurasian Lynx is found in deciduous and mixed forests in Europe and Russia; open wooded regions and semi-deserts in Central Asia; thick scrub and barren rocky areas on the northern slopes of the Himalayas and even up the Arctic tundra in northern latitudes.

Not twice as big... more like a strong and sturdy version of a domestic cat (and there are not so few non-pedigree domestic cats which can be confused with wildcats!). By the way, unlike lynxes, they are non-interested in humans and cannot be tamed at all... some years ago, I had encounter with a wildcat in an animal park, that cat was totally aloof and strictly avoided eye contact with me - while the Eurasian lynx in the other enclosure was pretty curious about human visitors (but feared men in black jackets, as I had to realize...)!

It is usually not a good idea for the vast majority of the population. There have been people who have been successful keeping wild cats, but that cat will dominate your life. You can no longer travel anywhere. You can not have any visitors or any other animals that the wild cat does not know and recognize as family. And even though they can be very affectionate, they can also be very moody. So you would need to become an expert on reading the cat's mood, and give them space on their terms to avoid possible serious injuries.

The countries with the most significant populations of Eurasian lynx generally include:
    1. Sweden: A strong population, especially in forested areas.
    2. Finland: Home to a large and stable lynx population.
    3. Estonia: Also has a healthy population, benefiting from its extensive forests.
    4. Norway: Significant populations in the eastern and northern regions.
    5. Poland: Hosts a growing population, especially in the Białowieża Forest.
    6. Slovakia: Contains lynx in its mountainous regions.
    7. Germany: Some populations are present, particularly in the Bavarian Forest.

The Lynx? They naturally have brighter fur around their eyes to help reflect light in, whilst in darker environments, as they're most active around dusk and dawn.
It's actually where the name comes from - Lynx stems from a Greek word for light. Many cultures have historically represented them in mythology as being incredibly perceptive because of it.

  • @daliborjovanovic510

Eurasian lynx are about twice as big as those found in North America, the bobcat and the Canadian lynx. While the latter mainly prey on rabbits, hares, and rodents, Eurasian lynx fill a niche more akin to cougars, as they regularly take down deer and other ungulates, and have been known to kill adult wolves despite only being two-thirds their size. They are highly elusive and have never been documented attacking a human, even though they would be more than capable of killing one.
