    Excellent video. My son followed the video exactly and his Sienna started on the first crank. Highly recommended. Saved him at least $300 in installation costs.

    freaking excellent video. It's exhausting to find videos that either talk WAY TOO MUCH (and usually too slowly), or are at 4x speed with irritating music. This is clear & concise- straight forward, no wasted time, words or stupid music. I felt I knew what to do, just needed confirmation. thanks, man. excellent work.

    As always, your videos are straight-forward, no-nonsense step-by-step instructions. I purchased a reman DENSO from RockAuto and took about 2 hours total as I used it as an opportunity to clean the area including mass air sensor, air box, air tube, battery connections, etc. I do recommend putting anti-seize on the starter mounting bolts. Now I just have to send back the original starter to get Core refund. Easy peasy thanks to you!

    Just wanted to say thank you! It was as easy as you showed us. I bought a starter from my local auto shop for $128.00. It only took me 30-40 minutes to do the whole thing. I called Tires Plus and they quoted me $440.00 to put in a starter for me... Got a love saving money! Thanks again.

      I hope you got a good starter, like from the dealer. A word to the wise for anyone reading: never ever buy a crucial electrical part like a starter or alternator with a lifetime warranty from a discount auto place like AutoZone, PepBoys, Advance, or O'Reilly. I bought a similar remanufactured starter for cheap from VIP Discount Auto in Maine with a lifetime warranty for my 91 Chevy Cavalier. I went through 5 of those in 5 years! All free, but I had to either tow the car in or hammer the starter and hoped it started when the starter died. All of them rocked my engine violently when it started. One even broke off the starter bolt, and the engine had to be pulled from the car for a machine shop to drill the bolt out! I finally got an AC Delco starter from an independent mechanic, and it lasted 7 years before I got rid of the car. Smooth starting.

    Thanks for the video! I was able to replace our van's starter in less than 2 hours. It would've been 1 hour, but I broke a nipple on the radiator filler neck. Had to run to the store and buy a new one.

    • @reflactor
      @reflactor 3 года назад +2

      This happened to me too. Barely touched it and SNAP! For anybody reading this, you do not need a new radiator (Toyota tells you you need a new radiator). The radiator fill neck/elbow is a replaceable part. Costs around $25.

    Thanks for your video. Pretty simple task and your video saved me some frustration. Interesting thing about my starter failure. Turning the ignition switch would cause the starter to spin but the bendix was not engaging the flywheel. Testing it on the bench it worked just fine, but I didn't trust and changed it with a remanufactured unit from O'Reily. I didn't disassemble the old starter to see how this was possible.

    Thanks for the great video. On a 2011 3.5L I was able to get the starter out with only removing the battery and the air scoop. The starter came out VERY hard as there was some corrosion between the starter and the motor. Don't be surprised if you need to get aggressive with the pry bars and hammer...

    Thanks for the video! I know this is not a 2007 Sienna, since on mine, the vacuum hose to the front of the air filter housing does not need a screwdriver to loosen it. You just pull on it. You must have a 2008-2010.

    Sienna’s baffle me. The starter is a job that’s beyond easy to do. But changing the second bank of spark plugs for the first is a monster to learn how to do compared to most cars.

      happywrenching OK did you drop the subframe and engine? Cuz the clearance at the firewall doesn't seem like it'll allow for much... What was your method?

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  7 лет назад +1

      Exactly, it was actually the Northstar V8 engine on a Cadillac. Had to drop the subframe+engine - not enough clearance.

    My dumb luck, maybe you can elaborate, I just tapped (lightly with a wrench extension and hammer) a few times on the starter and it turned over from being dead, I know it's not a permanent fix but maybe you can tell why this works sometimes? Following your video to the T when I replace the starter this weekend, thanks for great information!

  • @100bml
    @100bml 2 года назад

    So does anyone know why you can't by a NEW oem (Denso) starter anymore? They apparently only offer remanufactured starters..... Although I haven't installed a remanufactured Denso, I have had bad luck with other ones. I installed a (pretty expensive) remanufactured Bosch starter on my Sienna, and it lasted 3 years....

  • @mikeduwe

    NO. Don’t take all this intake junk off. Pull battery, remove the 2 wires. Remove the 2 starter bolts and it pulls right out!!! You can have the thing on the workbench faster than it takes to watch this video!
