    As a longtime pro I have owned Sony A500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, A7RIV and currently own A1, A7SIII and yes I added the A7RV. And I have never had dust on the sensor issues, ever. And yes I shoot all subjects all over the world, including in dusty, sandy places and yes I change lenses in the field. It is all about a few simple techniques in pre-cleaning with a blower bulb (including the rear of each lens), and proper mounting and dismounting lenses with the camera lens opening facing down to avoid dust on the sensor, and shielding the camera with my body when changing lenses in the wind. And my images dont have dust, just a fact. I have owned Nikon, Canon and Leica digital cameras as a pro of over 50 years in the business, and my Sonys have never had worse dust issues than any of them. Cheers and best to you both.

    One minor correction: you do not need to tap the screen to turn tracking on and off in video. Just program one of the buttons for “Tracking On” in video mode, or better yet, program it for “Tracking on Toggle.” This will immediately address Jordan’s complaint at 08:22, and it works perfectly. The setting can be found on page 2 (“Focus Area”) of the purple Focus Menu section when you go to program a button via “Custom Key/Dial Set.” on page 3 of the yellow toolbox section. Admittedly, it’s hidden, but it’s there and it’s awesome.

      One minor correction: you do not need to tap the screen to turn tracking on and off in video. Just program turbo encabulation in the “Marzel Vane” sub-submenu, in the purple section of the Double Secret Configuration menu, which you can access by sacrificing a chicken and hopping on one foot in a circle while chanting “Sony, Sony, Sony is our God.” Using the tracking functionality this way does require implantation of a very thin tungsten wire in your dominant eyeball, but the operation is almost painless and does keep you from noticing the dust specks as a bonus. So you see, it's actually very simple!

      @2010SLP Год назад +28

      @@jlwilliams I don’t disagree that Sony should never have buried this setting, but my point is that it is there and it works to perfection. Once you are aware of it, it takes very little effort to set it up the first time and then it’s always a single button press away from being toggled on or off.

    The a7rV can initialize tracking with a button in photo and video mode. Its called "Tracking on" and "Tracking on + AF On" for photo and "Tracking On" and "Trackin on Toggle" for Video on Page 22 in Custom Key assignment menu. It can also be set with Touch pad enabled with the thumb when you use the EVF.
    Im not a fan of using the delicate shutter to catch dust and debris. If something needs protection on a camera its the shuttermechanism. Just have one of those blowers with you and clean your sensor befor a shoot.
    4K60 has a way faster readout speed than 4K30. You could use that and just export in 30 fps at the end. This is a phot camera first and i think its very good for the sensor if you think about how limited the rIV was

    • @Jpeglism
      @Jpeglism Год назад +1

      I think this is a "Photo-first All-round" camera, which has the best photo quality and absolutely good-enough-for-most video capabilities. The A1 is an "All-round" camera which does not win the best, but still always can stand on at least the second best place in almost every aspect. And for the S3 it's a video camera for sure.

    Just more confirmation that you will ALWAYS have to compromise on the video or photo side of things. If you are primarily a still photo shooter, this camera looks awesome. If you shoot more video than stills, there are probably too many compromises. As someone who is finally making the switch to mirrorless, more for the video capabilities than anything, I am struggling to know which way to go (as I don't know how much video shooting I will wind up doing as it is pretty new to me).

    • @halcyon1981

    • @Jpeglism
      @Jpeglism Год назад +3

      @@halcyon1981 Have a check on the Photons to Photos site and you would notice that everything comes with a price, and for the A1 it loses just a tiny bit of dynamic range, probably due to the design of stacked sensor. The same also applies to Z9 and A9. The high read out speed does cost a little bit on the IQ. And the A1/Z9 cannot do full-width 4k 120p read out like the A7S3 does. So... yeah, everything compromises, either here or there.

Also finally we have focus stacking and improved EVF. Not sure what I'd want out of a camera focused on stills.

    @findbinnu Год назад +3

    It's rare that I find Jordan making a mistake about some feature on a camera - but as Patrick Murphy-Racey demonstrates on his channel, A7RV does have Tracking On where you can use the use the joystick to initiate tracking, rather than the Touch screen. Even on the A7IV, if you use Touch Pad+Touch Panel (i.e. Both valid), and Spot Focus Area with Touch Tracking Active, you can use the rear LCD as a giant touch pad to move your Focus spot to your desired subject and initiate Tracking. So the criticism is unjustified, though as usual Sony could have explained or shown off these features more clearly.

    The screen and EVF alone make it worth the upgrade from A7iv. Highly recommend shooting in 26MP RAW(M) mode which is more than enough for most people. The AWB is improved as well. I’ve compared the video compared to my A7iv and it’s virtually impossible to tell the difference unless pixel peeping. And rolling shutter is non-existent in 4K/60p with regular motion speeds. A7RV is a great camera and will be for many years to come.

    I get the feeling that the camera market is moving towards the phone market in terms of product strategy. Companies pump out bodies to cover the whole spectrum, which makes it increasingly more difficult to choose and next to that, iterations are following each other quite fast. Especially Canon is doing this with the R-line and the fast re-iteration of the R6.
    I would hope companies release fewer models and stand by those for multiple years with support and software updates. Could be more expensive, but it would give you more trust that you bought a piece of equipment that is not outdated within 2 years.

    What I do find confusing though is video mode and photo mode doesn’t allow the same customisation instructions - some focus instructions allowed in one , but not on the other . Probably for good reason but needs getting use to

    I’ve taken over 240,000 images on my A7RIV and only needed to blow the dust off my sensor twice with the rubber bulb blower. I never needed a professional cleaning with it. I don’t change lenses that often using mostly 3 lenses for real estate. However, my A7III needed to be cleaned twice a week! That used to drive me crazy…

    Do not compare the noise on dpreview website: they used a lossless compressed raw. The file is about 80MB, when the uncompressed full quality raw file is over 110MB.

    • @bosstowndynamics5488
      @bosstowndynamics5488 Год назад

      You do realise the entire point of lossless compression is that it's full quality, right? That's the entire point, it's lossless. The only reason Sony kept the uncompressed format is because their camera processors aren't fast enough at doing lossless compression to keep up with their faster shooting modes.

    I've A6600 right now but like to jump into fullframe. I want to get the RV but I think it is out of my price range. I wonder how is RV as compared to RIV? I just want to take pictures. My video's will be handled by the 6600. I'm really interested in the wildlife photography.

    • @BlueBomberTurbo
      @BlueBomberTurbo Год назад

      A6600 and A7R IV came out around the same time, so many of the features are simliar. The biggest differences will be the body, viewfinder, resolution (including Pixel Shift), and readout speed issues. You're better off going with a used A9 for the money if you're looking at wildlife.

    • @slam5
      @slam5 Год назад

      @@BlueBomberTurbo aha, if I want to do a bit of portrait too. which will be better?

    • @BlueBomberTurbo
      @BlueBomberTurbo Год назад +2

      @@slam5 The main reason to move up to FF for portrait work is to get shallower DOF. Going to the A7R IV, you're also getting a lot more resolution. The question is: do you need either of those? Without them, it's very hard to see a difference between those cameras in the end result.
      Using APS-C, you're losing around 1 stop of DOF control vs FF, and adding 1.5x to the focal length. So a Sigma 56/1.4 on APS-C is equivalent to 85/2 on FF. A Sony 50/1.2 GM is equivalent to 75/1.6. So as you can see, 1.6 is about as shallow as you'll get on APS-C if you need AF, while you can get 1/2 on FF. With MF, there are 0.95 lenses that are roughly 1.4 on APS-C, and an 0.85 that's equal to 1.3, which is as fast as you're going to get. So it all depends on how far you want to blur out the background and potentially the subject's nose and even eyebrows on a close up headshot.

      Depends on what else you need. If you need less jello, 20fps, or lenses like the 28-70 F2 or 85 F1.2, no. Otherwise, as you've noticed, Sony has a crazy big lens ecosystem that Canon is trying its hardest to avoid, along with better AF and IQ.

    The A7R5 is excellent but not perfect. I've had some real issues with the autofocus...especially animals where it occasionally focuses on the back of the head and finds eyes that weren't there.
    I've had it freeze on me a couple of times. As in just the whole thing freezes up and u have to pop the battery.
    It's an exceptional sports and wildlife camera overall. People say it isn't, but they are 100% wrong.
