I was the hellcat charger that finished 3rd and broke out. Both the Bel Air and the Cuda drivers were really dialed in at this event. These guys are a class act. Great coverage 1320..
The Hellcat Chargers never cease to amaze me. I mean, the Challenger is SUPPOSED to be fast just from looking at it, but a four door car capable of taking a family of 5 (I guess the Challenger is big enough for 5, but hear me out) to dinner should not be running faster than 12 or 13s...not 9s!!
It looked like you ran a faster time though. In the 9's. Funny how people laugh about the old bel air getting the hellcats but when you put a shit load of money into a motor you can make any car that fast lol
@@WayneDwilliams12 A Hellcat costs like 70k. You can get a 6.0 truck motor for 1k. Running flex fuel and turbo you can make good power for under 5k. The most expensive part would be getting ahold of a BelAir that isn't a rust bucket.
Arthur Slugworth That is what Drag Week and Rocky Mountain Race Week is all about! Nothing but Great Racers having a absolute ball you should put it on the bucket list. I've been 4 times and would not trade it for anything!!!!! See you in Atlanta!!!
I had a 73' Challenger w/a stock hood & black vinyl top while stationed at Ft. Bliss in the mid to late 80's. Had a guy pull up next to me in a brand new IROC Camaro, laughing & pointing. He wasn't laughing when the light turned green. Had a 340 4bbl that wasn't stock under the hood w/a factory slapshifter automatic & 3.91 gears. Damn near pulled the front end off the ground when you punched it from a dead start. Before that, I humiliated a Chevy 350 4bbl stepside pu w/my 86' Shelby Charger walking away from him at over 120mph, not even floored. His face turned a lovely shade of green when I popped the hood.
@@kevinpearson3820 If I could get ahold of the guy that was with me I could back it up easily. For one, the Challenger had a 340 4bbl w/4:10 gears, .202 heads & a deep oil pan w/a cam. I had an 86' Shelby Charger I bought factory direct before that that beat the Chevy p/u. He was stationed in C Troop at Ft. Bliss in the same barracks I was in in A Trp 1/3 ACR. BTW? My Shelby wasn't floored & only reading 5,500rpm when going 120mph, as 120mph was 5mph on the GLHS Shelby Chargers. I saw it on the ones in the dealers there in El Paso. Look it up if you don't believe me. BTW? The GLHS Shelby's could run 12's in the 1/4mi w/the Stage II factory chips. Look it up on You Tube if you don't believe me.
Astounding the slight lift/brake by the Challenger in the final cutting as perfect of a class time as anyone could possibly hope for... that was amazing. How much luck and how much skill to do just that perfect amount to keep from breaking out. Love both cars and both fantastic drivers.
I was looking for a comment about that. He knew he was going to break out so he got off just enough. I cannot imagine the amount of experience and intuition that man has to be that precise. Blows my mind.
TheDustyaman couple months ago they filmed a beautiful orange nova. The best thing they have ever filmed is either the red sierra in cali that roasted em for half a block off idle or the first k20 mr2 in Florida that molested 1000hp gtrs and bikes
Novas and Cudas are nice and all but in my opinion, nothing beats a heavily upgrade 50s beater. It's just the look of a menacing Steel slug with a couple hundred horses can't be beat.
My father had a '53 Belair; been in the family since '53 or '54 - 6 cylinder Blue Flame motor and the three on the tree. He took his road test in that car. When he first went into the hospital for cancer treatment, he drew the shift pattern down on a napkin and said I could take it out all I wanted. I remember him getting the car back after a new clutch, brakes and tires, only a few days before being admitted into the hospital. He wanted me to enjoy what he did so many decades ago. It was the first manual transmission car I drove. Nothing like this video, but I'll always remember that green color body. I miss that car and I miss my father. Great video!

That Chevy and I were both born in 1953! That was a great year! Coincidentally, my father taught me how to drive in a '53 Chevy. It had "three on the tree" manual column shifting.
