    Hi. I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the video tutorials you've uploaded. All your videos really helped me in doing the assignments given to me in college. I've also subscribed to this channel.😄
    I hope, keep uploading autodesk maya tutorial videos. because it is very rare and difficult to find a tutorial video with detailed explanations and step by step like your videos! :))

    Question! At school they taught me we should delete the upper and bottom faces of a cilinder because they contains a pole. I guess it's not that important in this specific case, right?

    • @DigitalDreambox
      @DigitalDreambox  3 года назад +2

      No you are correct in this case thanks for pointing that out! I was too focused on other aspects of this tutorial that I missed deleting that. My reasoning though would be more game specific meaning I don't need those faces on the top and bottom cause it adds to the geometry count. I don't think there is a hard rule though that you need to always delete the tops and bottoms of cylinders just like there isn't a hard rule for Ngons and non-planar faces if they work. Where complex poles become a problem is when you are doing Sub-D modeling which hard surface modeling for films and TV is built around.
      For an object like this I would say most of the time it's probably okay and I've seen some games keep the tree trunk ends closed to act as a leafless tree or as a modular piece as a branch. It really comes down to whether it gets the look you want, is your modeling efficient, and if it's optimized for your gaming platform.

    • @Neerepha
      @Neerepha 3 года назад +1

      @@DigitalDreambox Thanks for such a detailed reply! My teacher said that we should keep the polygons as low in count as possible, but I also know he worked for tv projects, so I understand both reasons for deleting those parts. I've also seen closed tree trunks in games, so I think that's all about the look of what you're modelling sometimes!
      I've just completed the tutorial, I didn't know about retopologing and remeshing, I am so excited! (yes, they didn't teach us about them in a 2 years videogame course...) Thank you

      @@Neerepha The fact that you are advancing says a lot. I've seen many students take a break or outright quit after graduating when that is the time when they can really focus on getting better. Mostly because it is after school that they can dedicate the hours to the area they want to learn. Believing we can get there plays a big part.

    • @Neerepha
      @Neerepha 3 года назад +1

      @@DigitalDreambox Weren't it because of covid (I lost my father), I wouldn't have taken a break either. All my class but one abandoned the field, and I don't want to be like the rest of them. I really like doing this kind of job, despite the long hours sitting on a chair and getting frustrated at Maya crashing xD I'll make sure to watch and all your videos during the next weeks.

    • @DigitalDreambox
      @DigitalDreambox  3 года назад +1

      @@Neerepha Oh sorry about your loss. Hopefully 2021 turns it around for you. Maya use to crash for me a lot when I was in school as well but it hardly crashes now. Also I don't know what version of Maya you are on but I found Maya Indie to be the most affordable version in case you don't know about it. And I believe Italy is one of the supported countries. It's the full version of Maya for a fraction of the cost. Just wanted to mention it cause many people don't know about it and Autodesk doesn't advertise it.
