A red lip without eye makeup looks so amazing on some people and so effortless! Sadly, I have very thin lips and a very small mouth, that barely extends beyond the width of my nostrils (they are not wide). There is no dark or bright colour that looks good on a mouth like that, especially after 50. However, I did find the information about colour helpful as it is applicable to blush tones as well.

There's nothing like a perfect red lippie. My personal favorite is a MAC limited edition (grr) from 2017 called Early to Red, which had a lovely blue undertone. That particular shade you're wearing is *outstanding* on you Caroline! You look very festive and as always, just stunning. Best of the holiday season to you and yours. I bought the Morning Velvet. I’m dark haired with brown eyes and a warm complexion. It’s definitely my colour. However, I’m old (ish) so I’ve worn it over a balm so as not to shock work colleagues! 😂 I’d wear it at night “neat” but not during the day. I bought Ruby Woo a few years ago but it was a) too blue and b) too matte. My daughter on the other hand looked amazing in it. Paler, younger with fuller lips!! *sigh*

Loved this video. I have too say that I absolutely cannot wear any red lip product. I am old and any red makes me look even older and washed out. I am fair, blond and warm toned. What I can wear is deep purple and it looks red on my lips. Like the Marc Jacobs gloss Boys Don’t Cry- opaque grape-purple. Maybe purple will work for others as well. 🤷🏼♀️. Have an awesome vacation. Update on a deep toned purplish lip product. I just found the Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick in the color Etienne. Looks purple but it appears red on my lips. Maybe others will like it as well.
Love this conversation. I used to work in cosmetics in a large department store here in Melbourne 20yrs ago & I used to always say that EVERYONE can wear red. What you must do is have confidence and the right colour red. There was a time when women did not wear much make-up but always red lipstick. I wear all the tones of red. My skin is pretty neutral with my face leaning cool and my body sometimes leaning warm but I adore red lipstick so much there are no rules for me. In my thumbnail photo I'm wearing a warm toned brick red which would probably better suit someone with a warmer or darker skintone but I love it just as much as my classic cool toned reds. I do prefer a matte, satin or cream finish and rarely wear glossy reds. Red lipstick is definitely my signature. On NYE for example I was not in the mood to put on makeup so all I did was a simple winged liner, mascara and a bright classic red lip.
I'm more drawn to red wine Cecilia :-) Seriously though, do check out the Bobbi Brown lip Crushed Lip colours lots of lovely berry and wine reds to choose from xx

I look best in blue-reds and berrie-reds and it is about my entire look, not trying to figure out what color my veins are, which frankly is impossible for me, lol! I have very fair + very yellow/green skin but any orangey lippies or warm-toned eyeshadows look DISGUSTING on me.
You sound exactly like me! I'm very pale and neutral/yellow toned but can't wear anything warm. The warm eye palette trend has completely passed me by. I don't think makeup 'rules' work a lot of the time

Anyways, red lipstick was worn from the 20’s through the 50’s. There may have been some tonal variation, but it was very limited (selection was not was it is today). Bottom line, red lips ruled. There is no red that suits me. Never has been. I have watched ALL the RUclips videos, bought ALL the recommendations, cults, classics, niche, etc, the entry levels the hardcores..and all of the just make me feel and look like I’m an ageing clown who stole mama clown’s make up and went on a bender.
