The headphone recording comparison was stellar! Probably the best actual review of headphones I've experienced. Frequency response graphs are genuinely great, but sometimes it's like listening to somebody describe the Mona Lisa. I just wanna *see*! The differences in response and signature between all of those headsets came through very well, and clearly put their capabilities on display. I would like to add a side story here: I was using a dating app recently and a REALLY cute guy matched with me. I noticed that he was wearing a HyperX Cloud II headset in his photo (which i first heard of here), so I complimented him on them and we started talking. Long story short, Dank Pods helped me score a date with a handsome gamer guy. Thanks Dank Pods!
I recently bought the HyperX Cloud 2's and I gotta say, you might not like how they fit and sound out of the box. For me they sounded quite dead and muddy but that can be fixed by using an EQ like Equalizer APO on windows to get a more fun V shaped curve going(or whatever else you like, just be mindful of the gain so they don't clip). As for the fit, if you have a head large enough to have to fully extend the headset, you might find it really uncomfortable at first but it does get better the more you wear it. The pads are a massive pain to change and the spare ones are only good as spares while you wait for new leather ones(the spare ones make the sound worse and let all the noise in because they can't seal). The 7.1 surround mode is fun to mess around with but I can't speak to its accuracy in competitive games. Overall, comfort wise they're no match for my old Cougar Phontums but sound wise (with an eq on both) the cloud 2s do sound slightly better, they let very little noise in, the 7.1 surround is a fun bonus and you might have an actual chance of finding replacement pads for them, unlike the Phontums.
I have the kraken x lite, and I gotta admit, installing the software for being able to have 7.1 surround was annoying at first, but the advantages by doing that is that my laptop as a whole, can now have 7.1 surround active with or with the headphones, I can even use other set of headphones and it still works (only downside is that wireless devices will not apply to that function, only connected directly to the computer)
After many years my astros still live, only issue I’ve had is the headband cushion isn’t physically connected to the Plasctic bit and is glued on, probably better gear out these days but they’ve been awesome the last 3 or so years
ive used the hyperX cloud 2's for about a year 1/2 now and i would never use another pair for gaming, they're just perfect for what i play and they fit SO good
Went through two pairs of those Hyper X Cloud II's, also had to buy extra mics since they kept crapping out. I remember the audio quality being solid but I wanted better build quality so got those Audio Technica with a boom arm mic.
Have had them nearly since launch, bought them for 80 euro back then (~100 USD) and they still are working basically like new- just as comfortable, and the pleather pads are still somehow fine, though they now get oily extremely easily, the single bad thing about them is the mic- it's not that great out of the box, and after ~5 years of use taking it out/putting it in and rotating it DAILY, it's hit and miss whether it works, and the part where you rotate it into position, the coating on that got all cracked/bunched. But overall you'll enjoy them :)
I bought the Krakens for work because I'm on the phone all day and they're way more comfortable than standard phone headsets (the on ear, single driver kind). The reasonable sound quality was just an added bonus. The pair I got says "Tournament Edition" and have some differences from what you showed including a detachable USB audio remote and cooling gel injected into the padding.
I got the tournament editions and that thing is so damn heavy, I started getting compression headaches from using the headphones after a week of normal use. Had to return them sadly🙁
@@pvshka I just didn’t use headphones for like a year, then just recently bought the sennheiser pxc 550-II and these are so light and comfortable and I can wear them for hours without even my ears getting hot, are wireless and sound way better than the razor headset. But I had to bump up my budget a little bit (by a little I mean 160$).
The HyperX Cloud II's are and were ~80$ though for the last half a decade, ya got ripped off for the 100$ (USD) price tag, though not by much, but still .--. But overall I love them, great build quality- it survived nearly 5 years now with MANY drops and accidents, and just a scratch on the metal, and amazingly even 5 years later with daily usage the pleather earcups still look and feel brand new, though a bit oily, and even with daily switching between the dongle and my phone for the headphone jack, it still works well and hasn't broken, the comfort is amazing, don't feel them for hours, they're the best set of headphones I own so I can't really comment on sound, and overall for 60 euro I got them for on a sale an amazing headset :)
To be fair the current price is $129 AUD on Amazon, which is around $93 USD. Still more expensive than US price, but AU price might include tax, and US price not, so swings & roundabouts really.
@@manakmishra I converted it, they're exactly 100 USD, aka 138.37 AUD. So ye, they're 100$ there :/ I'm in a Euro country myself, but tend to use USD$ most of the time online since that's basically the default for some reason >_>
I had Hyper X's for a good 7-8 or so years. For the most part they are built well except for the plastic bit with the screws in them, those cracked every single time. Maybe it's because my head is too big or I just abused them, but if they fixed the durability of that one section they would be great.
Had a pair of Huh Duh Six-Hungos back in the day, something around 15 years ago. Bought them dirt cheap, compared to today’s prices, think something like half price. God they were good. Gave them to a good friend, cause I got some wire issues with them, that I couldn’t be arsed to look at, and see if I could fix it, and he said he could fix them, so he got them. I regret giving them away today, luckily I gave them to a good friend who appreciated them.
As someone who bought the HyperX Cloud II's basically from watching this, I love them! perfect comfortable everyday use pc headphones, only thing - the USB dongle that should be good and easy to use is fucking shit, it introduces so much static on quiet sounds that I don't even use it, I just plug them straight in via jack and use HeSuVi Realtek driver for surround effect - but not using the dongle means the mic is even shitter if you even get the parts to connect both the audio and mic jack to use it. I'd say these headphones are worth the price because of how comfortable and good the sound is through 3.5mm. Just don't expect to be able to use the dongle and get good sound clarity.
A little late reply, but try using 70% volume in Windows when using the USB dongle. Also make sure it's the latest firmware update(if the firmware vers you have>firmware vers on website, don't touch it). That's what fixed the static for me. Not fully, but I don't care about the rest of static. Only took me a day to stop noticing it. *I'm using Cloud Core 7.1 but they're technically the same thing as cloud 2 but nothing else in the package, just the headphones, dongle and the mic
@@cappin6937 I already had latest firmware but what saved me was using 70% volume. Higher than that, even 71%, returns heavy static for some reason. 70% and below are levels you can pretty much start ignoring in a day.
Perhaps they are defective? I've been using them with the dongle, absolutely no issues at any % volume. Been blasting music for hours on end, to the point where my ears ring for a couple of hours after. (i have issues) The only gripe I have with the headset is basically that the microphone is a bit quiet, but it still does get the job done, and I do believe you could use some equalizer or something to increase its volume. (also a late reply, sorry)
@@DBZCinema2KHD The background noise is only noticeable when music is at low volume. It won't be noticeable at 100% if you're "blasting music". Try turning it down to 70% and move between 70% and 71%, also enable some background sound at 0% of volume (Spotify for example). You'll notice it
I have em too. Was surprised how linear they are. Totally nice for listening to music. Problem is, all those kids are used to super bad bass cans like those beats shit and they will say the clouds suck, cuz they are just not use to good headphones anymore.
If I ever visit australia I’m going to expecting everyone to act like this guy, smiling friends, and that one scary movie with the Australian guy in the truck speeding.
im actually listening to this on my cloud 2's, they are really really damn good, and also if you dont like the red accents, they also come in white, silver, dark gray etc etc, they have a fck ton of colors, i have dark gray ones myself, they have legit lasted for at least 2 years at this point
I had cloud alphas for years until they broke. Fully worth the $99 price tag. Screamed gamer look to me but I can’t judge them because they’re that good. Mic was ass tho.
nearly 5 years for me... rocking them since launch, and have nothing to complain about, only now the braided cable has a few strings going out of it due to constant wear, but not much else... The mic sounds okay, and unfortunately I got the red one's, so wearing them out in public/work isn't much of an option, since they look kinda stupid.
@@marlon.8051 they're made by Kingston, named by their under-brand HyperX, so both are US companies, so no, they aren't. :) Though most if not all these headphones are manufactured in China....
I have the Razer Kraken X for 55euro's. On amazon they are 40euro now. Sound is okay overall, avaerage for music but pretty good for gaming. The mic works very good (non popping at all unless the mic is right up my mouth. then a pop filter will help) The only thing is the headband is deteriating where the metal Kraken console model doesn't have that issue (and will stop a handgun bullet if some bullet travells through your window while gaming (It actually happend in Rotterdam, the Netherlands)
For every one of the sound tests the headphones sounded like they had a piece of paper between my ear and the speakers till the GSP 550's which sounded just noticeably like they had a thin piece of paper shoved between my ears and headphones (and the last ones sounded pretty darn close. Still feels crunched down a bit)
For 200 the astro A40s are pretty amazing, ive had them for 3 years and love them, the only downside that some people might have is they aren't wireless.
Would love to see an updated version of this video with Sennheizer PC38x, Epos H6Pro, HyperX Cloud II (a new pair - not from your collection - because I believe they changed them and they aren't as good as they used to be), Razer Kraken v3, Corsair HS80 and Beyerdynamic MMX100.
There’s so many, Like the Razer Nari’s the Blackshark V2s, the Sennheizer GSP 600s, 601s, and the 670’s, and the Astro’s that come with an amplifier. He never even reviewed any Turtle Beach, are they not available in AU?
@@ghostridernz17 I'm glad I recently found this out. I lost the usb cable for my cloud ii's and fell into a rabbit hole looking for a replacement. I ended up getting the pc38x headset with a Schiit Hel dac/amp and wow, what a difference. Even the clouds sound so much better plugged into that Schiit 😁
I have been using "gaming" headsets for 20 years, none lasted longer than 2 years. I am now using a Philips SHP9500 with mic attachment. So far (nearly a year) lasted longer than my last 2 headsets, and was easier to take off the pads and clean unlike nearly all the others, and the pads seem to be holding up better. I hope they last and don't deteriorate.
I just have a rough history with any headphones. The only ones that have lasted me years are the really bazaar Sony HW700s that I even got used. There a weird wireless headphones designed to be used with your HDMI output from your device and a box that sends a wifi signal to it from the box. It's really weird but has lasted nearly 10 years now. Otherwise I go through headphones constantly. I've gone through 2 sets of Ether CX (one had the connection port fall out, one the headband somehow snapped), one one AEON Flow 2 (blew it up as I was having temporary hearing loss and thought the headphones were bugging out), Koss ESP 95X (channel imbalance like most electro stats get, could get them fixed with the lifetime warranty but don't think it's worth fixing them), Triton gaming headphones (charge port failed), and ATH MSR7 (hinge broke off). All of those in the last 10 years. I'm lucky if my set lasts over a year no matter the brand. Hell even earbuds are a mess. I've had 3 sets of Sony WF-1000 XM4 and one had a catastrophic failure with the battery and got a warranty replacement, and the other two both have a channel imbalance that doesn't seem to be fixable. And I also had two sets of Tin T2s fail with the wire connection terminal wearing out. Not the 3.5mm, the small one at the ends of the buds.
Yeah I made the switch a bit ago. On PC I switched to an audio interface and XLR mic and Koss PRODJ200, then on XBox same headphones with a Modmic-style on-line boom mic. I swap back to my Logitech gaming headphones every now and then just to remember the good ole days and I always hate it.
Oh this made me so happy. I've been a big fan of my HyperX Cloud IIs for AGES. I've tried a couple other brands of headsets over the years (there are so many accessories marketed to gamers holy shit) and I concluded the HyperX ones were the best overall and it feels awesome stumbling onto an audiophile who gives actual data to back up my vibes.
It's fair to remember to that any decent pair of open-backs from AKG/Sennheiser/Beyerdynamic will and do sound better than any of the closed headphones in this video. Personally I like Beyer the most for their price to performance in sound and comfort/durability.
Waiting for all the great comments about how “the gaming headphones aren’t supposed to sound good for music, their supposed to be optimized for gaming or something.”
Well it is... kinda true, things like Surround sound and Microphones are unimportant for Music, also: when playing shooters you might want that extra Bass (I still use my regular Headphones)
Bosh yes I understand, I’m talking about how many people will mistake the the poor quality and completely overpowering bass on a cheap gaming headset as the “optimized for gaming sound.”
I had one of those HyperX headsets. They were comfortable, sounded great (compared to stuff I'd used previously) and the mic was surprisingly good for a gaming headset. Then after a year the stupid things just stopped working. I decided I was done with gaming headsets after that. Bought myself a USB microphone and a pair of Yamaha HPH-MT5 headphones.
i got the HyperX Gaming headset from the Thumbnail and before watching the video I got to say I absolutely love it. It is amazing for CS:GO and similar games.
This is the only guy whose brain won't flatline if someone went "Oh you're Australian? Could you say something in Australian?" When someone asks me to speak in my native language I just don't know what to say xD

HyperXs always have a very distinctive microphone sound, you can usually immediately tell someone is using them by their microphone sound. Dunkey uses them in his gameplay segments and you can always tell. They have that specific compressed feeling.
I bought my Cloud II's like a year and a half ago because of you, and after living in some $20(us) Chinese bootleg headphones for years, I put on the Cloud II's and I almost cried because of how big the difference was. You brought me out of the slums and I am very grateful.
Cloud II's are great, but if you want that experience again then some nice 150-300 dollar open backs can do it again. Just be careful, there's no going back.
@@AceArata Which ones? Hyper's or the 770's? Either way they're both good. The one thing I will say is, upgrade to FLACs. Getting FLACs was like unlocking a secret hidden layer of my hyper's and the 770s don't sound right without them imo.

I'm using the wired version of the hyperx cloud ii, and I agree, they're awesome. The only downside is that the headband is hard to replace, if you aren't a skilled technician, compared to the earpads. Otherwise, it's a great headphone for its value.
I upgraded from my old Corsair headphones to the Cloud 2 Wireless, and they are really nice. Nice and comfortable, good audio quality, good battery life, even the mic is decent (most in built mic's aren't that good as they want you to go external). The Razer surround stuff is actually entirely software, they just provide a pre-calibrated set of settings for their models of headphones. You can actually use it with any other headphones, but you might need to adjust the settings a bit for it to work well.
I was going to comment about this, Razer's software is free for the most part but when paired with their headphones (that's why they need activation code stuff) it unlocks more features and config options

I have the kraken x lite, and I gotta admit, installing the software for being able to have 7.1 surround was annoying at first, but the advantages by doing that is that my laptop as a whole, can now have 7.1 surround active with or with the headphones, I can even use other set of headphones and it still works (only downside is that wireless devices will not apply to that function, only connected directly to the computer)

ive used the hyperX cloud 2's for about a year 1/2 now and i would never use another pair for gaming, they're just perfect for what i play and they fit SO good
Went through two pairs of those Hyper X Cloud II's, also had to buy extra mics since they kept crapping out.

I accidentally went back to the first time the ears on a stand where used
I am witnessing history
I bought the Krakens for work because I'm on the phone all day and they're way more comfortable than standard phone headsets (the on ear, single driver kind). The reasonable sound quality was just an added bonus. The pair I got says "Tournament Edition" and have some differences from what you showed including a detachable USB audio remote and cooling gel injected into the padding.
I agree. I have the same headphones.
@lemons s theres like 12 different headsets in the kraken line lol
I got the tournament editions and that thing is so damn heavy, I started getting compression headaches from using the headphones after a week of normal use. Had to return them sadly🙁

@@pvshka I just didn’t use headphones for like a year, then just recently bought the sennheiser pxc 550-II and these are so light and comfortable and I can wear them for hours without even my ears getting hot, are wireless and sound way better than the razor headset. But I had to bump up my budget a little bit (by a little I mean 160$).
i use my old gaming headset for my electric drum kit, it’s pretty good imo, it’s quite bassy which is nice for drums
Some of these headphones would make a good analog high pass filter.
Still more expensive than US price, but AU price might include tax, and US price not, so swings & roundabouts really.
its aud, not usd. 120 aud is close to 85 usd. Dont worry
@@manakmishra I converted it, they're exactly 100 USD, aka 138.37 AUD. So ye, they're 100$ there :/ I'm in a Euro country myself, but tend to use USD$ most of the time online since that's basically the default for some reason >_>
As someone who works at a retailer that sells HyperX, they definitely saw a price hike during Covid
I got the Hyperx for ~50€ and I like it. They are soooooo comfy.
I had Hyper X's for a good 7-8 or so years. For the most part they are built well except for the plastic bit with the screws in them, those cracked every single time. Maybe it's because my head is too big or I just abused them, but if they fixed the durability of that one section they would be great.
Seeing the mojo barely blow anything up vs the diablo literally blowing up earphones like nothing is just 🤣
Had a pair of Huh Duh Six-Hungos back in the day, something around 15 years ago.
@@SandeMC Thanks, I did indeed update the firmware on my dongle and from memory I did test various volumes but I'll have another play with it soon.

The thing I like about Astro headsets even though I've never owned a pair is the fact you can customize them by removing the plates on the side.

@@ghostridernz17 can I have more info on the usb sound card? Kinda curious now
I have been using "gaming" headsets for 20 years, none lasted longer than 2 years.

It's fair to remember to that any decent pair of open-backs from AKG/Sennheiser/Beyerdynamic will and do sound better than any of the closed headphones in this video. Personally I like Beyer the most for their price to performance in sound and comfort/durability.
