    That moment when Layne's character gets tipsy, matched by the switch to a major key, was excellent. And then when he gets smacked to sober him up, it went back to minor. Genius.

  • @Wildecat10
    @Wildecat10 2 года назад +11

    The kettle contained both the lights and the smoke machine. Eli programs all the lighting with a midi signal that is ‘played’ so that the lighting is the same for each shot.
    Did you notice that when Layne was ‘drunk’ he switch to singing in the major key?
    Layne has been working on editing their Halloween video for this year. It would have been out to patrons today, but he is still without power. So the video is delayed. But it definitely will be out before Halloween. And it’s another costumed masterpiece!

    Layne really came into his own in this one. We don't often get to see his goofy side in videos. Wonderful.Eli is in charge of lighting these days so you'd need to ask him how it was done. Oh and Cesar pronounces his name as in Julius Cesar, like Seeser. Not Sayzar. :)

    This is definitely going to be one of Voiceplay’s classics. I love the way Cesar brings in a little story of his own. Here he comes in with something (I never got a good enough look) and you can tell the way he strokes it that it’s precious. The asks Elizabeth if he can add to the cauldron and then he asks Layne, who grabs it and throws it away. Next time you see Cesar he’s wailing like a little kid, but then he cooks up his revenge. LOL. We also get to hear things we haven’t heard from all the guys-Eli’s quasi-operatic falsetto, and I think he also gets credit for those beefy lower notes as he’s bringing up the pepper. Cesar has some beefier vocals as well just for a few bars. We hear a little more classical sound from Geoff. This is just a genius arrangement and everybody really threw themselves into it.
    Great reaction, and thanks for talking about the light effects and camera work.

  • @bjspeck4337
    @bjspeck4337 2 года назад +6

    Me? I loved it. Loved the operatic voice first from Eli (who knew?) then Liz. Loved Layne's voice - then the comedic drunk caused by Cesar putting in Spider Legs from his jar into the cauldron. Geoff and Layne truly kept it going on pace (whatever pace was needed). The music goes back to my day's in symphonic band where I played the bass and contrabass clarinets. I've never really gotten that melody out of my head. This offering by VoicePlay brought every single measure back 56 yrs later. VoicePlay is SO VERY GOOD at taking any music and making it theirs and making want to hear it again and again. I always enjoy your reactions and analyses because you approach it from a different field. You done good!

      I get a feel that after the part where Eli drinks a sip and goes opera, then Liz drinks and goes Queen of the Night style a bit, Layne goes a bit Fiddler on the Roof

      Hey thanks for your comment! That's pretty cool how this song brings you back 56 years. @@JeffreyHackReacts I think you might enjoy the Halloween offering that Layne is working on right now. Poor Rick Underwood, their make up artist, is really putting in the overtime! Also Geoff has one that’s dropping tomorrow. Another makeup masterpiece by Rick, not to mention the incredible vocals by Mr. Castelucci.
      The behind the scenes video that’s offered to patrons were really long detailed ones this time. I’ve always love the behind the scenes, how do they do that, videos so I really enjoyed them.

    Great reaction! This was a great way to kick off spooky season. Cesar is so animated in everything they do. Yes they had 2 lights in the cauldron that Eli set up to change color. Fun fact: Layne actually cut trees down in the parking lot of Pattycake studios for the setting of the video.

    This piece of music is very well known all over the whole of Scandinavia. Composed by Edward Grieg in 1875 to the play Peer Gynt by fellowman Ibsen. It's often used in schools to introduce children to classical music, the story of Peer meeting the trolls gets their attention. So I have grown up on this music,often played, and it has also frequently been transformed into various styles. Boggie woggie being a (in)famous one. Considered very heretic in 1949 nowadays very beloved in Sweden. Geoffs little solo before he added his ingridient reminded me of that version.
    It was with great pleasure I watched VP setting their spin on it and transform it into something new and still uniquely VoicePlay.

  • @janetdw

    Every ingredient they add to the concoction affects their voices in a new way. This is just so much fun. I couldn’t imagine an orchestral piece being done a cappella but they pulled it off. Another viewer commented that this reminded him of Spike Jones from the 40’s and 50’s. But he used klaxons, cowbells and cans, but no bodily functions! 💨🤧

      @@JeffreyHackReacts Well, in all fairness, I have watched and listened to it a lot. It is so funny that in that one section, when Layne does the burp, it starts with Cesar having gas, then Eli getting ready to spit, Geoff wiping his nose and then finally Layne and his stupendous burp.
      BTW, Geoff released his Ghost Riders in the Sky today. Due to Hurricane Ian, Layne lost power so the final edits are still being done on their Halloween treat. Patrons got to see an extensive behind the scenes and they release the MP3 to us. It is extremely creepy.

    Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. You said you didn't like the song? As you may know this was a classical symphony orchestra piece. ( No words. ) It was used as a musical background for a play who then added some words to it. Parts of the music were also used in several cartoons & movies
    Voice Play did an excellent job of imitating the original music.

    Did you know about the Grieg Original and the story?
    Funny no one I have seen reacting so far in Hall of the mountain king ever mentioned the great film reference of Jeff using the Pulp Fiction metaphor.
    The insights on set and amazing cutting quality were great but to expect from your title. I thought you would cover more as others more focus on their personal perception or the greatness of singing. The costumes and amazing makeup wualitywere adressed, too. But not much about the great creative interpretation and storytelling in contrast to the originated Peer Gynt Theme.

      I live in central Florida and there have been power outages and flooding but not as much devastation as Fort Myers and west coast areas. Yes, they are doing ok and they have posted a humorous update on their patreon channel and have dropped a few Halloween minis and behind the scenes videos of their current (soon to be released) Halloween themed video. They will be releasing their new Halloween video soon but it has been delayed because of the hurricane. I am so glad to be a patreon of both Voice Play and Geoffs channel (I pay very little and they really treat their patreons like family). I lost my home and most of my belongings in flooding from hurricane Irma (2017) and am still trying to recover--it is a slow process. Voice Play and Geoff have brought me so much joy during these difficult past few years.

    Yeah, I didn't like it either, it was so vapid and banal.... just kidding! The thing that was the most surprising was Eli's entrance with that baritone voice. He used it again later, when he was recovering from the hot pepper. I know that he can sing even lower than that, but he rarely uses that tone in a solo line. The makeup and prosthetics were very well done, but I wish Eli and Geoff looked more like than themselves. Personal preference, I guess.
    Elizabeth's voice is amazing. She sang with them (off camera) in Frozen 2 and The Greatest Showman, and in the collaboration with others in Just Sing. If you watch that one, captions ON, all of the collaborators are identified by name, relationship to Voiceplay, and musical history.
