Thank you so much for the reaction!! You know, I did do QOTN in college, but no, I am definitely not operatically trained. I’m just a very good impersonator and have range. (The important parts, right? 😂) I studied cello and vocal jazz. Great reaction and analysis! And you said my name absolutely beautifully. 😊

Hey Lizzy, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! Cello and vocal jazz - very cool 🎶And if you have the range and ability, the QOTN is a must, right?!
You must have had such a blast making this video with VoicePlay (and no doubt recording your part too)! Thank you 🙏

Anytime Geoff is painted blue is going to be fun. Layne the Carrot Lord had a great time making that arrangement.
    Thanks for another great reaction.
The Little Mermaid medley would be a suggestion for a reaction soon. Another blue/purple Geoff and an introduction to another great guest.

@SirHairless Layne has 🥕 gags going back a few years, tormenting J None with them. They make an appearance in the Frozen medley too.
Eli loves spicy foods, hence the 🌶 in this video. Geoff is an obsessive chef, so him adding the spices to the cauldron was in character too.
Looking forward to your reactions to The Little Mermaid medley, Drunken Sailor and the Dragonborn Comes hopefully in the not too distant future.

While VoicePlay didn't take it seriously (well, they took the performance seriously, just not the video!) and didn't win a Grammy for it, this is another case of an a cappella group taking an instrumental piece and performing it marvelously well, just as PTX did with Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. While I prefer Dance just because of the underlaying music, I have to say that there's just an enormous amount of detail and thought that went into this video - all hail the twisted mind of Layne, the Carrot Lord!
BTW - Elizabeth fools almost everyone with her "operatic" performance in this song, but she insists that she's basically a studio singer and doesn't really have any operatic training. I personally think she's pulling our legs to see it they will come off in her hands, but that's what she says!

Elizabeth says she is not operatically trained, she just sounds that way. :) This was a Layne arrangement but the swing section was Geoff's addition. And a lovely one. And these guys are back in a new classical piece. Soon.

Ok. I'm so happy right after this. This VP cover delights me every time I watch the video, and I discover new clever details each time. But watching you react to and process the whole experience for the first time. I keep wanting to heap on compliments and appreciation for all you do in making this content, but I'd sound like an eccentric old auntie gushing over a nephew who's a prodigy. Which would be awkward for all of us 😂. So... thanks for this, and for sharing your gifts whilst maintaining your own privacy. Hard to do on RUclips.

This is intense so I can’t listen to it all the time because I get too frazzled. But when I’m in the mood this gets played over and over again. It is just so much fun! I believe I’ve also heard this as part of classic cartoons. (I know that they’ve used Barber of Seville in cartoons and a few others. It seems to me that I remember Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny to this but I’m really really old so those cartoons probably aren’t around anymore. )
Every time I listen (and watch) I find new things. Now, I will hear more new things because of your analysis so thank you very much.
By the way those voices at the end were both Layne. He does not do voice acting but he really should because he is great at it.

I am SO glad you reacted to this! For some reason, it doesn't seem to resonate with as large an audience as their "normal" songs.... if they even have a 'normal.' I KNEW that you would really appreciate the rhythm and harmonic effects. Not to mention the visuals! One thing... unless I am really wrong, you used the term "sound effects. With VoicePlay, sound effects = Layne. Great example is the creaking door in Valhalla calling. They also use multi-tracking, so there are often more than "just" 5 parts. Great reaction! I like the technical breakdowns you do!

    • @thisismetoday7423

I think Sir Hairless would have imploded if this had been your first VoicePlay reaction!! The fact this was your 10th or so reaction to Voiceplay is the only thing that got you through it with your sanity still in tact!! My favorite part is when Cesar whops the back of Layne's head (ala Jethro Gibbs style on NCIS). The best part about this piece is how VoicePlay always provides the hook to the song in the first couple seconds and then rhythmically changes throughout the piece every few seconds to have you fully engaged and listening throughout. The point you've mentioned numerous times is so clear in this piece where there are no words and yet we're on the edge of our seats throughout. Another great analysis. And, as I've said with every single SH reaction, us amateurs get to learn something new from you every time!! Looking forward to The Dragonborn Comes!! You're going to LOVE IT!!

Oh, I just knew you would have a LOT to say about this one! 😁 They really went to town on creating this story with the various 'trolls' creating some sort of potion - the BTS was hilarious, Cesar's ears kept falling off, Layne and Geoff were dragging huge branches into the studio from outside the mall (with Tony threatening them they'd have to repaint any scratched areas!) - if you didn't spot them, the masks of Lock, Shock and Barrel (from Nightmare Before Christmas) were in the 'trees'! I loved the addition of the huge pepper to make the potion 'spicy' as the tempo increased! Great reaction and analysis, loved it! 😊

Voice Play has been working very hard on their newest one featuring these same characters that should be released in another week or two so be on the lookout for it. They did not have it named or finished yet but have been teasing their patrons with it and it is stunning! Elizabeth Garozzo is a long time friend that sang with Disney World's 'Voices Of Liberty' choir but does independent session work for Disney now. All of Voice Play's featured guest are so amazing.

Had a feeling you would really enjoy this. Transcribing a strictly orchestral piece into acapella is not something many artists would attempt. Then to give it a story outside of the opera is next level. Really enjoyed the way you broke it down and how they made it work was exactly was hoping for.

The Grendals return... or have on the Patreon already. It will drop here on YT sometime this month, unless something delays it at least. I am interested in that "queen of the night" you were talking about... I will look it up later because we are hoping they make the Grendals a regular part, like their Halloween and Christmas drops, and I would like to see how it would compare (see if it is something worth suggesting for another day).

I guess, your patreon requester asked for this on purpose as a perfect preparation for the upcoming VP video (or it was by chance a very good timed request) 😉 - You made me watch the pre-screening again directly after viewing your video and writing these lines. If I had a time machine, I would bring Edvard Grieg back with me and (after proper preparation regarding recorded music, videos, Internet, RUclips, etc.) I would play him this performance. With sufficient preparation (so he doesn't lose his mind), I believe he would love it. (Don't know what language we would use, though. I may have to go forward in time first and snag me a universal translator badge.)
