What has always amazed me about this arrangement is that Chance and Rob have very distinct different voices. But when they join together their voices sound exactly the same.
In the Middle Ages, a masterpiece was the work submitted by someone seeking admission to a guild. This piece is HF's masterpiece. It is an extreme exhibition of their extraordinary expertise.
Oh! I have been waiting for this one! You are my favorite reactor for the easy to understand analysis, and I love watching your face! Priceless. Thank you!
This is one of my absolute favorite HF performances. It shows not only the incredible tightness of their harmonies, but also their unison timing and blending. But even more, I enjoy the extreme artistry in their arrangements -- this one so like the original, but oh, so, different!
Thank you, Sir! I've been waiting for this one! Your reaction was worth watching over again. I'm so glad you enjoyed this amazing song, both the original and HF's version. I loved CSN's harmonies back in their day. This is my absolute favorite HF cover. Again, thanks for your superb analysis.
This is beautiful!! One of my favorites of CSN. Didn't think anyone could do it justice. Your right Home Free was the only group who could do this justice.
The precision of breathing in sync, the lockstep of going from unison, to harmony, back to unison, to harmony, the arrangement where several points the baseline hangs on to notes for extended time while the other parts are coming in stages is so incredible, it just like having the most exquisite high end sweets you can buy. The ear candy this presentation provides is so remarkable that I can not think of another to compare it to. Home Free has one unmatched talent in all the music they cover..they respect the music they cover so deeply, but at the same time they manage to recreate the soul of the music in new ways... really appreciated how you called out the power of the silences to compliment the music... great reaction!!
Rob Lundquist and Austin Brown singing Nessun Dorma. As a classical musician I believe you will enjoy this, Rob will steal your breath. I am not a singer, writer, musician or anything else tied to a music career but I love reactions because music feeds the SOUL! Facial expressions tell it all! Whether it has been heard before while advertising it's the first time, or that it is great when they could care less, a little more coin in their pocket. Your reactions tell truth! I get chills and tears from this one every time! I think this is my favorite of theirs. It's so haunting. These harmonies! I like how you described the feeling of vulnerability they create here. I love the tension that that brings. They are tasked to being perfect in timing and tone. They accomplish that so well. Demonstrating their vocal excellence. This is a true test of A Capella skill and talent! I'm so glad that this was the winner tonight. You describe how their choices affect us emotionally. I never had words for that, but you're absolutely correct in the words you choose. Many thanks to you!
Chance directed this one (as well as "I Can't Outrun You"). It's a master class in acapella - no beatboxing, just wonderful singing & harmonies. Thanks for playing this & your insights!
CSN zooms be back to my childhood, it was my oldest brothers music and it reminds me of all of the times our parents made him take me with him, yes even on dates. 😂 I love CSN and I love Home Free’s version of their song. Thanks SH! T ✌🏻

I grew up listening to Crosby, Stills & Nash & had their album with this song Helplessly Hoping. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. This song is full of alliterations. Home Free more than does justice to all the songs they cover. And this song is perfection to me with the 5 part harmonies. A true masterpiece! I can't say enough about how great these guys are & humble while still staying respectful to the original song.
My favorite, well tied to What we ain't got, but love this one! The only thing I would change is to make this ten minutes longer! Your insights are always thoughtful and helpful.
CSN 1969 is one of those truly stunning albums, where every track counts (Ziggy Stardust is another). I’m 60, so it takes me back to that era. The opening notes of Wooden Ships does it to me every time. Hendrix famously referred to CSN as “Western Sky Music” - which, if you’ve been to the American West and experienced that incomparable blue sky in Santa Fe or Arizona or everywhere else with those open vistas, you know what he’s talking about. Helplessly Hoping is my fave by a hair over Wooden Ships. But I’d love to hear your take on Guinnevere. I was turned onto it by a prof in college. He and a friend couldn’t quite figure out the tuning of it (this back when you only had an LP and a turn-table). They caught a concert from CSN, and just before launching into Guinnevere Crosby tuned the guitar to the alternate tuning, plucked each string. The prof and his friend said they “got it!” - the key to the song being the alt tuning. Musicians can do that. I can’t. I’m a writer who loves music, but musicians can pick out tunings and notes and chords natively in a way I’m just jealous of.
The harmonies do me in on this one. I am happy that Chance had a bigger role in this song as I love the tambor of his voice. Smooth as silk and soooo satisfying.
One of my favorites of theirs. This was Chance’s baby. I know he directed it and filmed it in black & white. He might have arranged it too but not sure. Good reaction SH! 😍😄
I can never get enough of this song, partly because it is so short and because it is so beautiful. So much ear candy going on. I really enjoyed your analysis and I look forward to you doing more HF songs. You seem to get Home Free and why us Home Fries love their singing.
Brother, love your thorough & in depth analysis as always. Another one i think you enjoy musically & videographically is one that Adam Chance directed, and sings lead in, it's called "I can't outrun you" its a beautiful cover. Please if you can i the Home Fries and others will really enjoy your breakdown of the composition, and you'll have a chance to really disect a song led by Chance and his directìon too (he's multitalented)
This is one of my favorite Home Free songs. I find it almost haunting in its simplicity, and yet still be complex. Yes, more Home Free, please! How about one of the "funny" videos? You will get a good laugh and still be amazed at how much the guys can do! I suggest the Butts Medley! Please? It's SO much fun!! Peace and love from Kentucky

I'm still shivering in little spurts, from having listened to this, and not just all the way through, but with all the lovely chords during your detailed explanation. The only other thing I will say, is: YES! (...and THANK YOU)

Rob is my "favorite" member of Home Free (as if that were possible), but I can't express the joy I felt when I first heard this and CHANCE went first. Then, there's the unusual treat of Adam singing. This song is magic in itself, but there's wizardry (think Gandalf, not Harry Potter) in the Home Free version.
I am so happy I found you. I am a seasoned Home Fry. Your analysis is brilliant and I cannot wait to hear more! I have always said this is simply a masterpiece and an entire class can be taught on this perfomance.
I agree that Home Free did an excellent job with their beautiful interpretation of this lovely song. I didn't know the original either and I really liked it :) I’m learning so many new interesting things with you, thanks Sir!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been anxiously awaiting your reaction to my all time Home Free rendition! Another marvelous informative reaction. Like Home Free you never disappoint.
I grew up through the early years of CSN. I felt then as I do now; CSN' and sometimes Y's harmony was unique for those days. Two other displays of CSN's harmonizing abilities are in 'Deja Vu' and 'Sweet Judy Blue Eyes'. You might want to check them out.
Brilliant - the song arrangement and the analysis! : ) It's so good and enjoyable (both even). HF makes ya wonder how. Who's doing what and when or who is moving together and/or separately, I gave up on. I remain amazed though! : ) These guys are very unique; they can be very distinct and so similar --- nearly anywhere! A blend that is very rare. --- I just stay blown away by these guys!!! LOL --- And I refuse to stop!!! : ) Be Safe
I’m so glad that you finally got to this one. I felt that it would be a good one to pick apart in comparison to the original. From the first time I heard it, I felt that there was a bit of magic happening. I’m certain that when they are looking for a high tenor, that he will be as in tune as Austin. That would show how successful they are as a unit. Thanks so much for this reaction and analysis. You’re amazing! ❤ Cyd
There is a recording of the band singing this live off-mic, which really shows up the vulnerability and the power of silences. As if to respond to those who doubt their ability, these wonderful men produce the same tightness and magical feel as this studio recording. The only slight difference is that Tim counts off the timing of the final chords with his fingers.
This is one of the my favorite covers from Home Free. I still get chills sometimes in certain parts. It’s a beautiful video and those harmonies, and the unison is excellent! Love your analysis and breakdown. It’s a phenomenal cover that was suggested by Chance to the group. This is right in his wheelhouse, but glad he suggested Home Free to do it as a group. I love when Home Free goes outside the box. I concur with another commentor above/below regarding the suggestion of Home Free’s cover of Dire Strait’s “Brothers In Arms”. I didn’t think they could surpass “Helplessly Hoping”, but they did with the CSN cover!
It was interesting when they did this. They have done a couple of folk songs from the same time period including Travelin' Soldier Crosby, Stiles, Nash and (sometimes) Young was a marvelous super group for harmony. Totally part of the history of folk music during its ascendancy in the 1960s-70s. They have one very amazing song that was written in an afternoon by Nash and recorded that same week "Ohio".
I enjoyed this.. and it reminded me of how long it’s been since I’ve revisited Crosby, Stills & Nash (& sometimes Young), their harmonies were always something special.. might be reconsidering my cooking music choice later this afternoon 🎶🌟
@@itzel1735 They do have so very many songs that never get old (unlike me! Ha) I did end up starting my cooking with my original plan, the score for the movie ‘Last of the Mohicans’, but then finished up with CS&N ‘greatest hits’ long enough to revel in Southern Cross, Helplessly Hoping, and a few more. Then supper caught fire under the broiler as I was reviewing the upcoming songs on the list🔥New kitchen rule, no music while using the broiler!
Marvelously informative reaction as always. Have been anxiously awaiting your reaction to this, thank you so much. Like Home Free you never disappoint.
How did I miss this? My older sister had the album, and this was my favorite song on it. Home Free does it justice, but the original will always be my favorite for nostalgic reasons. My sister and I used to love playing this song and finding a part to sing within it. ❤A/R🎼
Lovely analysis! You should check out their cover of (Dire Straights) Brothers in Arms. So powerful! Also Austin singing solo covering Bring Him Home (from Les Misérables). It makes me cry every single time I hear it.

This came up again, I LOVE THIS FROM THEM!!! GOD it is beautiful! I love CSN, but Home Free kills it!
It was interesting when they did this. They have done a couple of folk songs from the same time period including Travelin' Soldier
Crosby, Stiles, Nash and (sometimes) Young was a marvelous super group for harmony. Totally part of the history of folk music during its ascendancy in the 1960s-70s. They have one very amazing song that was written in an afternoon by Nash and recorded that same week "Ohio".
Take a moment to listen to Rob and Austin sing, Nissun Dorma. Another listen to their talent.
Oooooh, this is one I hadn’t listened to and it’s gorgeous. I love Crosby Stills and Nash, Simon and Garfunkel, Kansas, etc… ❤
After watching your explanation of this i would love to here your breakdown on Crazy, their cover of Patsy Cline
As always great reaction analysis.
I enjoyed this.. and it reminded me of how long it’s been since I’ve revisited Crosby, Stills & Nash (& sometimes Young), their harmonies were always something special.. might be reconsidering my cooking music choice later this afternoon 🎶🌟
I can listen to “Just a Song” and “Southern Cross” anytime, and over and over. 😁
The cooking music choice is a very important one indeed
@@SirHairless To see how that turned out 🔥 see my reply to itzel..
@@shelleyo I can set stuff on fire while I’m cooking, with OR without music. Hope everything was ok.
Love this cover by Home Fee!
I'm so glad you finally got to this treasure.
Your musical sense is wonderfully advanced. Takes me back to my Music Theory training long ago.
This is simply beautiful. 💖
One of my favorites of theirs❤
Your little smirks give us a hint of what you're thinking. 😊
Absolutely love this song. 💗💗💗
Been waiting for you to do this ❤
Marvelously informative reaction as always. Have been anxiously awaiting your reaction to this, thank you so much. Like Home Free you never disappoint.
I knew and chilled to the original. Home Free sounds❤ chill too
How did I miss this?
My older sister had the album, and this was my favorite song on it.
Home Free does it justice, but the original will always be my favorite for nostalgic reasons. My sister and I used to love playing this song and finding a part to sing within it.

Lovely analysis! You should check out their cover of (Dire Straights) Brothers in Arms. So powerful! Also Austin singing solo covering Bring Him Home (from Les Misérables). It makes me cry every single time I hear it.
Loved your reaction. Thanks for giving us 'technical' information in such an easy to understand manner. I learn a lot listening to your reactions. The expressions on your face as you are watching are amazing. Thisvis one of my HF favourites.💕
Beautiful 🥰🥰
Angelic group. Thanks to God.
I learn so much from your reactions. Thank you 😊
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score - at Wacken 2013. I am 72 and not a metal band listener at all, but this floored me (hee hee). Love it. Oh, they're symphonic metal.
As always great analysis Sir. Love this arrangement by Home free.
