Voiceplay released their new video yesterday the 27th..... Be Prepared featuring Mykal Kilgore. Mykal is one of the original founding members back in 1997 when it was named "4thelove" with Geoff, Layne and Earl. He left in 2002 for a very successful Broadway career. And is still going strong. Geoff Castellucci released his new video last Saturday the 21st.... Song of Durin. He brought back his 4 dwarves (Filli, Killi, Thorin and Bofur), and added another (Gimli). It is absolutely gorgeous.
It's just fun to watch this video. The compilation of the songs, the costumes, the harmony of their voices was fantastically implemented. Thank you for your wonderful reaction and for sharing
The arrangement is Layne's and is totally insane! He did an interview with another reactor, The Charismatic Voice, to go over just the beatboxing tracks. If my memory serves me, about 140 different tracks. They did a version of in the Hall of the Mountain King before this, absolutely wonderful, different featured artist. He has hinted that there may be a third one coming but it will be awhile. They are just the best. Rachel has appeared with them more often than any other featured artist, 14 times and counting.
And this is why one should never take their eyes off Voice Play. To do so you will definitely miss something. Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play & being so attentive. ❤Please do reaction videos to Geoff's newest cover songs . You Don't Mess Around With Jim...Big Iron & Song Of Durin. He brings back the dwarfs with this one. It is the third of a series of dwarfs he did.
What a phenomenal sequel to VP's Hall of the Mountain King. The dedication to the craft is mind-blowing. With Halloween approaching it's time for Jack's Lament by Geoff from VP. So much fun!!!
Although it’s not something I necessarily listen to on a regular basis, just like this one , I watch it probably more often than is healthy. 😂. It’s not just that it was my favorite song from the movie, and the vocals are SO good, but the acting is so incredible. It’s mesmerizing.
When Cesar 'steals' the bass voice, it's actually Layne who provides it, but Rachel lends the soprano. The sheer imagination going on inside Laynes brain, to come up with this. For sheer musical joy, without any theatricals at all, listen to their cover of The Way You Make Me Feel. Nothing theatrical there. Haven't seen a reactor with professional musical background who hasn't been impressed and delighted with it.
@@utha2665 it is Cesar who had the spell book & showed him stealing Geoff & Rachel's voice but Layne did a perfect voice over for Geoff. Who knew he could sound just like Geoff. It's hard for me to believe it
Because of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' they are finally considered for a Grammy nomination. I really hope they get nomination and grammy, cause they have deserved it, not only for that song, but for all the amazing things they brought us, from Metallica to this one. 👍for the reaction, really enjoyed it. Oh, and as an afterthought, you seemed to like especially the part from Griegs 'Hall of the Mountain King', they did a 'Full Version' of it with another female artist, Elisabeth Garozzo, similar setting, same characters, glorious vocals & lots of theatrical fun. Enjoy!
The theatrical pieces are among my favorite to watch. Not always my favorite to listen to independently, but always my favorite to watch because they have so many intricate details that I continually find new things. You definitely need to go through their Halloween catalog. They love Halloween. Last year’s selection by Geoff was phenomenal. Jack’s Laent Nightmare before Christmas. VoicePlay has done four songs from the movie as well. It’s a tossup as to which I like the best. Currently my favorite is Kidnap the Sandy Claws and Rachel appears in that as well.
Actually Layne did Geoff's voice for Cesar and Rachel's voice was Rachel for Cesar. It's magic. They earned that Theatre Kids moniker by working with Disney, Universal and other theme parks, and found out what really works for audiences. They did drop Be Prepared yesterday and Geoff makes a wonderful Scar! Of course, last week was Geoff's solo of Song of Durin.
This was a sequel to their previous cover of Hall Of The Mountain King (which they included a piece of in this). Same characters and makeup, but with a different feature, Elizabeth Garozzo. Yes, Cesar was stealing Geoff and Rachel’s voices in the video, but it’s actually Layne singing the bass in that part! And also yes, prosthetics all around for the makeup.
I expect, that if they ever performed this live, Cesar would likely sing those parts, and probably do a quite passable job of it. But for the official audio recording, they multi-tracked other singers for those parts, because it sounds a little better. Layne is on record in interviews indicating (with regard to other songs) that they do this sort of thing "because we can", i.e., not because they _need_ to, but because they're perfectionists and want to make the final mix the absolute best it can be. In the interview he gave about this specific song, he goes into a fair amount of detail about how many distinct tracks he uses, in the audio editing session, for the vocal percussion, to get it absolutely perfect; it's a lot. There's a reason Geoff and Layne trade off editing duties every other song: a lot of the time, it takes more than a month to finish one.
Rachel was a little perturbed when she was doing makeup, because Layne "forgot" to tell her that she'd be wearing the mouth prosthetic, or the whole eye contacts (which she'd never worn before). And of course, everyone got to wear contact lenses, which always seem to give the VP guys fits in getting them in. Unforgettable experiences for everyone!
This is fun. Have you done the prequel, "Hall of The Mountain King" yet? It's awesome. for somethings less theatrical but very cool, check out their "Total Eclipse of The Heart."💙
I really like your reactions and that you are giving also some background info at the start. Would be absolutely fantastic, if you look up Voiceplay's channel by yourself and take a song of your choice, you want to react to. Steered only by donations isn't the only way ;-)
If memory serves, the base voice from Cesar was Layne.
Yep, Layne does pretty well with bass notes. 💙

A prime example of "Layne Brain". I hope there will be a third appearance of the Grundles in the future.
This is an actual glimpse inside the brain of Layne. It's his creation and it's unmistakable that Layne is still a kid at heart.
I love it when Layne Brain takes over an arrangement! It's always a blast!
Awesome reaction! ❤
they are magnificent doing theatrical but also amazing when they’re just sitting singing
It's just fun to watch this video.

They sure know how to bring Life into those old classics, don't they!? So creative.
I absolutely love this! They did such an incredible job musically, vocally, and in all other ways.
I adore how the color of the fire changes to the color of the character singing. LOL!

Geoff did a wonderful cover of Jack’s Lament on his solo channel not too long ago so hope he does react to it.
Thanks for your reaction! You would love "Jack's Lament" from the 'Nightmare Before Christmas' on Geoff Castellucci's solo channel- trust me!
I very much second this!!

Enjoyed your reaction to this phenomenal piece by VP. Thank you!
VP released Be Prepared, from The Lion King, Friday. And it is phenomenal! Please check it out!

AS part of their theatrics, you can see Layne "steal" Cesar's and Rachel's voice by casting a spell at ~4:15. Very clever and so much fun.

My favourite easter egg?
"Last Page DO NOT LOOSE"
not lose, loose.
My favorite is the fact that the “spell book” is actually add dictionary!
You can see Rachel pull the page when she gets the book back from Eli, and Cesar is doing the Can-Can.
Their latest is Be Prepared from The Lion King. Another Disney offering. It's terrific.

I love this medley, it reminds me of "Hooked on Phonics" from the 80s!
