My opinion for if ya care:
Pepa, Felix and Abuela have the same vas here because they can speak spanish as well as english so they dont really count. Isabellas almost sounds the same but has a different edge to her voice. Camilo actually sounds like an actual 15 year old here (I *almost* like this Camilo's voice better for that reason, I think I actually would've if he had that gruff to his voice in the gruffy parts.) It's just Dolores and Mirabel that have singers that sound the exact same as their english vas.

The thing is, here we have so many accents they are sometimes hard to understand, and the dub actors made a good job on that. Pay special attention to the way the pronounce words that have a middle s or end in s, because they tend to "omit" that letter 😜

As a bilingual person who has listened to this song in both languages many times, I am of the opinion that Dolores's verse got notably downgraded in Spanish. The whole foreshadowing is omitted by having her say she remembers him rather than she always hears him. The sense of empathy from her is also lost as instead of stating the "heavy lift" that he has with his gift she just notes that his power is mysterious (note: while "raro" in Spanish can indeed mean "weird", it can also be interpreted as "mysterious" or "rare").

Such things are bound to happen when translating songs. You can't translate all the emotions and references on the same beat in a completely different language. Still, I think the translaters did a decent job at translating the song.

    • @667GameFreak
      @667GameFreak 2 года назад +47

@@anvayvaidya2487 Yeah, that's true. Though the lyrics took a hit, I've understood that it's to have it consistent with the sound of the song. However one thing I don't entirely get why they changed is either heavily lowering the volume of or removing (I can't tell) the sounds of Dolores's footsteps. They're so satisfying to hear and I feel it's a shame they can't/can hardly be heard.

A little correction: in 0:41 Pepa says "Veo que pronto lloverá", you can confirm this by recalling the english "Bruno says *it looks like rain* " in which the spanish "Veo" would match better than "Sé". If you listen closely, you can actually hear "Veo", and it also makes more sense overall; even if we got the english version out of the way, "Veo que pronto lloverá" still sounds more natural in this context.

Some advice: In Spanish "se" also works as an impersonal pronoun when giving a strict commands, kind of similar to "man" in Swedish or German; "Man prata inte om Bruno" or also "Man får inte prata om Bruno"
I think you can say "One" as an impersonal pronoun in English (One doesn't talk about Bruno) or there is also this "Generic you" that is also can be used as impersonal just like "One"
No se habla de Bruno ----> "One doesn't talk about Bruno" OR "You don't talk about Bruno"
You can also translate it as a normal imperative negative sentences without impersonal pronoun
No se habla de Bruno ----> "Do not talk about Bruno"

      It could also be

Anyone else notice that when Pepa and Félix were singing about the weather they said, "not a cloud this time." That would explain why Abuela Alma was so strict and why Pepa was particularly stressed when it actually happened

I love both versions of this song and the movie. 😁 But I think the Spanish version held slightly more emotion in it. 😅
    English: 8/10
    Spanish: 9/10
Edit: After careful consideration and rewatching a few parts here and there I've seen that I may have oversimplified and overlooked a few things, and have come to a rearrangement:
    English: 9/10
    Spanish: 9/10
Why? The only reason I don't give it a 10/10 is because even while I really like the story, vibe *IMMENSELY* with the themes of the songs, and the songs themselves (both iterations) helped me get through some day to day aspects of my life; The movie didn't quite hit me in the feels the way (Spanish) CoCo did. By *no* means is it a bad movie, and I mean no offense at all when I judge, but...hmm, how do I put this? There's a difference between A-class and S-class. This borders somewhere between A+ and S-.😁😁😁

I think they prioritized the most effort on the Spanish version as even in the English version of the movie there is many Spanish terms and phrases, so may as well make it a Spanish movie at heart. If they didn’t, I think both would of felt severely neglected or lazy in a lot of areas.

What is peculiar about Disney is that when they make movies around Hispanic or Mexican cultures, they seem to be of better quality than others. Encanto or Coco for example. It's like the studio grasped the understanding of that cultures better.

    • @knewredthered960
      @knewredthered960 Год назад +1

Possibly it's easier for them as Disney is a company in the USA, and due to their geographic closeness and influence on one another, people there are more familiar with Latin America than other places in the world.
It's not a "Mexican" culture though lmfao, this is set in Colombia. Mexico is a specific country.

He told me I'd grow a gut!
And just like he said... (no, no!)
He said that all my hair would disappear, now look at my head (no, no! Hey!)
Your fate is sealed when your prophecy is read!
He told me that the life of my dreams would be promised, and someday be mine
He told me that my power would grow, like the grapes that thrive on the vine
    Óye, Mariano's on his way
He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach
    Betrothed to another
It's like I hear him now
Hey sis, I want not a sound out of you (it's like I can hear him now)
    I can hear him now
    Um, Bruno...
    Yeah, about that Bruno...
