That is entirely due to the good water pressure that you have in your mains. A Megaflo will not perform well if there is just the statutory one bar at the stopcock. @SkillBuilder Thanks for the reply. It's a Triton T550 (no longer available). I have tested the pump, and it works fine. The float valves are not activating the reed switches when in situ. Hey there thanks for nice video. I have power shower which takes cold water from tank in loft and hot water from hot water tank. I was checking with plumber If I can install 3 bar shower pump to improve water pressure in entire house. That plumber raised risk of damaging power shower. Is that correct? Please suggest. Thanks!
You would need a whole house pump rather than a just a shower specific pump, if you DM us on social media we can help you find the correct pump for the type of system and outlets you require boosting.
It's fun relating domestic fundamentals to industrial, although it does tend to be a bit bigger... A recent project was pushing almost 2000 litres per second of seawater, which would be good for those wanting a powerful shower I guess.
My old chemistry teacher told us you can estimate 60C pretty accurately - it's when its "just beginning to bite" in his words i.e.it's just starting to get uncomfortable to keep your hand on.
You will not increase the pressure by increasing the pipe size. You may increase the flow rate but that it unlikely. The combi heats water as it passes through the boiler. The colder the water coming in the more time it needs to heat it so the flow has to be reduced to reach the temperature. If you live in a hard water area the heat exchanger will scale up and lose efficiency over the years.
Hello Roger. I have a mega flow. I think that what it’s called. My hot water is stored in a tank in the airing cupboard. My shower pressure is not the best. Can I get a booster pump fitted. Which one would you recommend
I’ve had 2 salamander shower pumps fail on me in less than two years. On the other hand still have a Stuart Turner working in the on-suite after 15 years of use. I would never ever buy another Salamander pump again.
@@SkillBuilder oops.. The tank is in the loft so, I guess pump is in the loft. Is the only solution to change whole boiler to combi to shut the noise off?
That is a good point. I saw that had been written by our editor but I didn't change it. That pump can feed the whole house but we didn't do that in this case.
I'm somewhat torn on what to do. I can either do this and buy an expensive pump. Or I can just get rid of my aging vented tank and install an unvented tank in its place which would also allow me to get rid of the cold water tank completely. It's a tough decision to make. I do like the pre-plumbed unvented tanks out there and it wouldn't take me too long to get it all connected up appropriately.
Get rid off the old tank etc and have a simple set up if you can, you can get new MDPE pipe fitted from supply and it make a huge difference. Also note this way your garden hose etc all the house will benefit. just my opinion
@@lightx500 Well luckily I have very good mains pressure already which the kitchen tap and garden hose use. It's just eventually something will go wrong and when it does, I don't want to fix up an old system. I'd prefer either combi or unvented so I get better shower pressure.
Salamander Pumps have a range of both gravity boosting and mains boosting products available. Please use Salamander Pumps product selector www.salamanderpumps.co.uk/product-selector/ or DM @salamanderpumps on Facebook or Instagram so they can get in touch to discuss the best product for you!
At 17.27 on the video when you were speaking about the tank connector, what did you mean about putting the connector in lower than the hot. As this is a gravity fed system how would hot water get into the tank other than through the vent pipe from the cylinder as isn't it fed from the cold mains only?
Why not put a pressure pump on the cold water supply inlet and get decent pressure throughout the water service, we are on rain water here and have a grundfos pressure pump which gives us excellent pressure to all the taps even after running through filters and a UV sterilizer. Your hot water tank looks like it is due for replacement.
How can you avoid the shower pressure fluctuations on a mega flow system that is caused by water being drawn elsewhere on the system by washing machines, kitchen taps, toilets etc?
Some fluctuations are inevitable but you can pump a Megaflo but only to 12 ltrs per minute. Find out what your incoming mains flow and pressure is. Check that the incoming mains stopcocks are fully open.
This illustrates the difference between dynamic and static pressure. Even with good static pressure, if you have constrictions in the pipes/valves serving the outlets, the pressure will drop when multiple outlets are used. It’s the equivalent of voltage drop in an electrical circuit when current is flowing. One thing you could do is to turn down the isolators (if you have them) on items like toilets, washing machines and dishwashers. Those items won’t complain if the water enters slowly, but at least they won’t be stealing lots of flow (and hence causing pressure drop) when you’re using a more important outlet like the shower.
Salamander are an awful company to deal with. There pumps are poor quality, loud & do not stand the test of time. When the pump inevitably stops working salamander don’t want to know. Just read their trust pilot reviews. I’m disappointed to see you still working with them Roger. steer clear everyone!
Precisely. Its sad to see a UK brand fall so far so fast, but also its good that installers are waking up. We now outright refuse to install their units after too many bad experiences. They seem to be suffering from corporate 'brain drain' as I hear a lot of their more experienced employees have either left or retired. Leaving remaining staff guided by mangment parachuted in from elsewhere. Salamander now seem to prefer investing their resources in poorly executed marketing campaigns, sticking meaninless 'quiet mark' stickers on their exceptionally noisey pumps and paying influencers to shill their brand. Come on Salamander. Get a handle on this.
We're really sorry to hear about your negative experience with Salamander Pumps. I'm sure, they take quality seriously and will definitely look into your case to address the issues you've raised.
The worst decision you can make if you go down this route. Get yourself an Aqualisa pump shower system and put a pressure regulating valve on the main water inlet. Aqualisa will tell you it is not a recommendation, I have fitted many of these with no problems. The other better option is fit a new MegaFlow cylinder which would cost about the same as a pump system.
