This was the first song that plays on the Xanadu soundtrack album. She has a beautiful voice and body to match, she truly is...Magic. her cover of the Air that I Breath is phenomenal. Her voice like an angel.
Olivia was just a lovely sweet lady that could sing and really perform for her Audience. A very beautiful woman that died so tragically fighting her battles with cancer. RIP Olivia we love and miss you love.😊
I was born in 1964 as a mixed race kid, I've been in love (like millions) with ONJ since 1971, from puppy love to entry into puberty level in 1978-1980 up til her untimely death. Such talent beauty grace and poise. Everyone loved ONJ. RIP Angel 😢❤
She one of the most beautiful women to ever live and what an incredible voice so romantic so heavenly this by far is my number one song in my book the music choreography is just outstanding pure perfection.goes so perfect with her stunning voice.
I love ONJ! Magic was number 1 for 4 weeks in August 1980. This song was number 1 in the US at the same time the song Xanadu was number 1 in the UK. For a month she had the number one song in both countries.
This song was written by a guy named John Farrar. As a songwriter and producer, he worked with Olivia Newton-John from 1971 through 1989. He wrote her number-one hit singles: "Have You Never Been Mellow" (1975), "You're the One That I Want" (1978 duet with John Travolta), "Hopelessly Devoted to You" (1978), and "Magic" (1980). Notice, they all went o #1 here in the states. ONJ was hot in more ways than just her legs.
And he also wrote one of my favorite ONJ songs, "A Little More Love". He doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves. When speaking of the Xanadu soundtrack you hear alot of Jeff Lynne and ELO but rarely do you hear John Farrar. Even with Grease, you hear Barry Gibb wrote the title song but you rarely hear John Farrar.
I am so glad you ventured into, and shared Olivia. She defex was a looker!! in that era. Glad you picked it up. (Legs indeed). Ok her vocals matched her ler legs too. . Great reactions from you... 🙏🌺
This song is fantastic. Harri, if you think this is only a top 20 type song, you need to listen to the studio version without all of the visuals and clapping. I remember this song coming on the radio and it was mesmerizing. I am speaking of the song and vocals. There is a reason it spent 4 weeks at number one and it wasn't because of the visuals. At the time, she did not have a video for this song. The performance was lip synched on a TV program.
After "Grease" she released "Totally Hot" which was a bit more rock than her usual soft rock, then came "Xanadu" but then she went disco with "Physical" which a lot of people liked but not me. I was more into new wave and the '80s synth bands.
This song was released in 80 as part of the Xanadu movie soundtrack after Grease which was released in 78. This song is about your intuition and or spirit guides. React to her songs Physical and A Little Bit More Love please.
Yes, gotta love ONJ. Beautiful voice and I always liked this song. She did a cover of George Harrison's song, "What is Life" and Bob Dylan's song, "If Not For You", which was also covered by...George Harrison!
After Grease Harri …. It’s from Xanadu. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Besides her accomplishments in the entertainment arena - her legacy will always on top of that her cancer clinic in Melbourne - where unfortunately John Farnham her dear friend was at. We love them both 8:04 dearly and wish Farnsey a swift recovery and our thoughts are still with Olivia’s family after her passing. It was a very sad day in Australia to say the least. You can’t help but love such two genuinely lovely human beings. Still sad 😞 but I guess life does go on. Love you Livvy 🥰 And Johnny I hope everything is going well with your guardian angel in the sky 👍🥰. Love you too harri - you’re a pleasure to watch because you’re so positive …. Good onya mate 😘
It was written and produced by her friend from Australia, John Farrar, who famously wrote the biggest hits for Grease - both You're The One That I Want and Hopelessly Devoted To You. But they're all from Australia, BeeGees, Olivia and John Farrar, so maybe there's something distinctly Australian about their pop sensibilities?
That is, until her hair turned into, as though she had licked a light bulb! Her hair is at it's VERY best here. Her Sandy character in Grease was too ponytail (but far better than licking light bulbs), but this hair is greatness.
She was my first crush. Saw her as a boy in Xanadu at the theater and was completely smitten. She was absolutely angelic, still gorgeous inside and out to the day she died.
She played in the movie Xanadu, with Gene Kelly, the music was fabulous, spanned many genres. The movie is a bit unusual, beautifully done though. Watch grease with your daughter, she will love the music and the fun, some of the adult themes may hopefully go right over her head. Presently she is on her 4th battle with cancer. One of her hits was "I honestly Love You."
I can't tell any difference between this and the studio version, so I'm pretty sure she's lip-syncing, but I'm not complaining - as you say, Harri, ONJ is definitely a treat for the eyes (as well as the ears). I'm sure we're just two of millions of men (and probably women, too) who have fallen for her over the years.
@@TheNoncritical1 It's possible, but her vocals sound identical to the studio version to me. I know that lip-syncing was occasionally done on The Midnight Special, even if the majority of their performances were sung live.
Nope!! "Magic" was written and produced by ONJ's longtime songwriter and record producer, John Farrar. John Farrar also wrote and produced "Suspended in Time", "Suddenly", "Whenever You're Away From Me", "Dancin'" and "Fool Country" for the movie "Xanadu". He also wrote and produced "You're the One that I Want" and "Hopelessly Devoted to You" for the movie "Grease". He has written and produced many other ONJ hits and album tracks.
Nice reaction Harri. This was after Grease and was the first single lifted from the film soundtrack "Xanadu" and stayed at #1 for 4 weeks in the USA. In regards to her dancing, Olivia had just done the best of her career in this film - she danced with Gene Kelly in it which she has always been very proud of! Check out the movie where she plays one of Zeus's daughters, a Greek Muse who inspires an artist and an old flame, who was a musician, to open a roller disco nightclub - yes, you heard that right... lol... Anyway, the music is sensational in this film and Olivia certainly looks every part the Goddess - give it a view, it's crazy, but it's also gorgeous!
At some point in 1979/1980, the Midnight Special started having lip synced performances. If you want to see ONJ perform this live, check out "Magic" live from her 1982 concert. This woman was brilliant live.
I have few memories prior to age 5 but one of them is hearing this song in the car with my babysitter. Not sure why but it's stuck with me for over 40 years and everytime I hear it I feel like a child again. Kinda spooky actually. The emotions of being that age just overwhelm me.
I like the sort of quirky, off-center harmonies in this one! She followed Magic with another catchy hit, A Little More Love, with similarly twisty chord changes, and a great video of her singing in the recording studio. ruclips.net/video/rqH2rhlJIoo/видео.html&ab_channel=DeanKensler Check it out, if you get a chance. Yeah, in the late 70s there were the Olivia Newton-John, and Farrah Fawcett-Majors (another blonde stunner!) posters, and of course, all the black-light posters too!
Harri, you obviously have impeccable taste in women. I'm right there with ya, Olivia was one foxy lady! And a Top 10 female voice of all-time, in my book. Maybe as high as number 5 on that list. Great request, Q!
This was her best solo 80s hit, she's miming to the record here, but sadly a lot of the fidelity and superb production of the record has been lost in this mono transfer. Producer and writer on this was John Farrar who wrote songs like "You're the One that I Want" for the Travolta movie "Saturday Night Fever" and also songs for the movie "Grease" in which ONJ starred. I suspect @harribest that you chose this clip for the hotpants or other visual aspects, but the sound quality is an awful lot better on the following link. ruclips.net/video/4g2-YpLRjZ8/видео.html
"You're the One That I Want" was for Grease. John Farrar had nothing to do with Saturday Night Fever. He was ONJ's longtime song writer and record producer. He wrote for the movies and songs specifically for ONJ.😀
I was 12 years old and Olivia was the first woman who made me realize I was evolving into a man. That’s the most tasteful way I can think of to phrase it lol
Glad you are doing some more of Olivia's songs. She has had so many great hits such as "I Honestly Love You", "Physical", "If Not for You", "Let Me Be There", "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)", "Have You Never Been Mellow", "Hopelessly Devoted To You" & her duet with John Travolta "You're the One That I Want" & "Summer Nights" (from movie Grease).
This song and most of her pop hits don't really challenge her vocal range or ability. She has a gorgeous voice with great vocal range, incredible vocal agility and is pitch perfect. She can harmonize with anyone! She has recorded the most duets with men than any other singer. One would have to consider her extremely diverse catalog of music to appreciate the depth and breadth of her vocal talent. In addition, on many tracks, she harmonizes with herself, providing the backing vocals. If you have a chance, please listen to "Sam" and "Jolene" live from her 1982 concert. Also, songs like "The Right Moment", "Please Don't Keep Me Waiting", "Car Games", "Big and Strong", 'Compassionate Man", and many, many more.

Her mother was German. And the family relocated to Australia when her father obtained the position of Head Master (Dean) of Ormond College in Melbourne, Australia. ONJ was 5 years old at the time.

Olivia Physical was No.1 for 10 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100. Iremembered that when I was in GCE "A" Lrvels. But I prefer her 70s and 1980 song like Magic more. Unfortunately the two guru (teacher) planets Jupiter and Venus are not well placed in Virgo. That video of Olivia dancing and lip syncing to Magic is the worst way, and worst recording, for Harri Best to listen to it. This was a tape recording of the TV show. It might even be mono!!!!! The greatness of the song is in the sound engineering: the layering. It's meant to be listened to with big loud stereo or with headphones. Harri was just looking at her legs, and basically only said it was a nice song. = )
She was one of the most pitch-perfect vocalists of all time.
1) Nat king cole

I would love for you to do a reaction to Blues Image "Clean Love" - one incredible blues tune - fantastic vocals, guitar and keyboard work as well as percussion and bass. Here's a link to it - ruclips.net/video/fZrODv1lCTw/видео.html
I was more a Cher man.
Absolutely! Totally underappreciating this song and vocals.
Mate, yeah, she's beautiful, but come ON, when you're talking far more about her body than about the music, maybe dial it down a bit? 🙄
The song is BLAND. Olivia paving the way for Britney, Kylie etc 🤎🙏🏽
Difference being, Olivia can sing. Brittany and Kylie can’t.
