Dang I have a 1895 mosler safe that was painted for a railroad company I wish I could have u guys restore the outside of it. Great video

I very recently picked up a Mosler safe, circa 1913 according to the serial number stamped on the handles, which looks very similar to this one.... it also has split main door, one dial and it seems to be about the same size. Is this one a Mosler as well?
According to the seller it hasn't been opened for over 50 years and I haven't had it opened yet but I hope when I do open it I find an interior similar to this one, it's beautiful.
You folks seem to do fine work, I wish I lived closer to you but the cost of shipping something that weighs around 1300 pounds across the country would be astronomical.
Keep up the good work, I love your videos.

Hi Greg. Thanks for watching and your compliments. We are not sure what brand this safe is. Feel free to send us pictures at info@mantiquesnetwork.com and we will see if we can help you figure it out. Thanks Jeff

@@MantiquesNetworkShow Mine is a Mosler. I was wondering if the one in this vid was also a Mosler because they look so similar.
Mine is around 47" tall, 31" wide and 26" deep.
I'll send some pictures to the email address you provided.
      Thank you

Thank you SO MUCH! I have a Diebold jewelers floor safe that has an inner door like this one in the video with very similar mechanisms...difference being that my inner door is much larger where by covering the whole entrance to the storage compartment. I removed some of the paint off of the outer door (which only has a single door but with the same rounded corners as the one in your video) and can still see the original paint underneath. Underneath has the Diebold name and artwork and has the original and complete Diebold lock with May 23 1871 patent die stamped into the dial's knob which is possibly the Kienzel, Peerless, or Eagle style lock. The inner door has a May 23 1871 Diebold lock but was missing the lever and bolt mechanisms and so wasn't sure if the lock was replaced but previous owners never finished with it, or if the lock was actually the original one but previous owners lost the parts. Well now that I watched your video, I am a bit more certain of what my lock needs to make it work the original way. Unfortunately many sites like antique-locks.com will often times only give you limited information and in some cases in hopes of getting you in a corner....I uploaded many pictures asking what was needed to complete my Diebold lock and wasn't given hardly any information but the website's locksmiths had no problem saying they could make a service call to my house since think they know what my lock needs and they happen to have the parts...oh and for a small fortune of course when I just needed to simply have a picture of what the 2 missing parts are supposed to be.

Bad rapping the Antique- Lock forum is quite a shocker as I have uploaded tons of pictures and info over the years of all kinds of antique safes. For free I might add. There are periods where I have not been following what is on the forum but I think I remember this one. If I am correct, a couple hundred bucks for a solid bronze Diebold lock installed is hardly a small fortune.

Well, it's not a shocker anymore to see you or anyone else making a frivolous defense such as here you based it on you yourself having "uploaded tons of pictures and info over the years of all kinds of antique safes. For free I might ad", and no you are not correct since it was not the "couple hundred bucks" for a "solid bronze Diebold lock" coming to install it as you said. I know for a fact that no one sells one of these solid bronze Diebold locks for a mere couple hundred bucks not to mention coming to install it.

@@Journey4SureKnowledge-N-Wisdom Well you may think you know something on what a bronze lock may go for, but that is exactly what I quoted a few years back. And I was basically told it was too much. Very little activity occurs on Antique-Locks and I know of only one time when Diebold lock parts were discussed and that was with me. And I included in the price to install the lock. The offer was refused. Why do I get the distinct feeling it was you?

If it was for a whole lock as you specifically said it was, then it wasn't me who you're thinking it was. Go ahead and post the link here to the incident you are referring to and we'll see if it was the "couple hundred bucks" for a whole "solid brass Diebold lock" and includes the cost 'coming to the person's house and installing it'
If it's the same incident I'm talking about and I even made it clear in my initial comment here, it was just for the couple missing parts in the lock not to mention it wasnt for just a "couple hundred bucks" as you said it was.

Very interesting restoration! I'm curious about the paint used, I don't usually picture things from that era as having a very bright, polished finish like that.

Can those safes be set up with a customer picked Combonation one of my fears of getting older is forgetting my combonation but i figure if its a combination of numbers that are dear to me it may make it easier to get into ? I like the idea of a Antique safe fully restored also for firearm storage coud / do you reccomend a dehumidifier to prevent rust or damage and maybe a day lock that could give me fast access to Shotguns for protection

    • @MantiquesNetworkShow
      @MantiquesNetworkShow  4 года назад

Safes are limited to limited combinations. We can do our best to accommodate you. These safes are air-tight and would not require a dehumidifier. No day lock for antiques safes. Thanks for watching. Jeff
