Inline Skating City Flow - Shredding with the NN Dragon Frames!

  • This inline skating session was my first city flow skate on the NN Dragon 5x80 frames. The weather was cold, but it didn't stop the fun. Despite being very long frames with 5 wheels, the rocker they have still makes them incredibly nimble. Combined with the added front-to-back stability from the long frame and the lower ride height than my 4x100mm Endless 100 setup makes these frames very playful. This isn't my last city flow in these frames!
    This was almost my first session in the Navy Yard section of Philadelphia. It's more spread out than center city, so it was a great opportunity to really open up with these in the frigid temperatures.

    Bro that is so dope. Is the set up heavy with 5 wheels? Guess what Endless is making an Endless 5 frames soon ZAM

      I’m actually not sure how the weight matches up to something like 4x100, but it still feels less cumbersome than 4x100 because of the rocker. I know, I pre-ordered the Endless Arc frames!

    I finally did it folks.
    I had to stop skating for five weeks because of a broken foot. The foot still hurts and the skate has become very tight where the bone broke, but whatever, I couldn't wait any longer and I absolutely had to go skating...three days in a row.
    I finally feel great again. 🦶👍🙏🥳💫
    Wanted to add an inline skate emoji but there is none. I found out that there is already a petition about this public abuse. I am not kidding. ✊

      Hey, welcome back! I unfortunately have not skated in 5 weeks either. I sprained my ankle slipping on ice in my driveway the last time it snowed here at the end of January :( It's one of the reasons there's been a little more time between my videos recently. I'm being extra careful not to make it worse. Hopefully a week or two more and I'll be back out. It's definitely not completely healed yet.
      As always, thanks for watching.

    It's probably too early to tell, but if you could only have one frame, the 5x80 or the 4x100, what would you choose? What does the 5x80 bring to the table that would make an urban skater let go of the big wheel setup? I understand it gives you a lower center of gravity, but at the same time you get a bumpier ride and you loose speed with the smaller wheels, right?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад +1

      It's too early to tell, but I have a feeling it would be 4x100. Actually, the ride in these is super smooth, which think is from a combination of 2 things: The wheels are 84a on these and I'm used to skating 86a, so they're softer. I also think the 5 wheel rocker allows you to absorb more ground imperfections. I made a point to call that out in my first impressions video of these frames. That being said, I also noticed I got tripped up on small rocks and sticks easier.
      But the 5x80 really do sprint better, jump better, which are good for urban skating. After I get enough time on these, I'd like to sit down and talk about all 3 of my urban setups: 4x90, 4x100 and 5x80

      This was a Saturday around 3:00pm. It’s not the center city area that I’m usually skating in though. It’s kind of on the edge of the city and it’s mostly corporate businesses, not retail. It was awfully cold as well, so I only remember seeing a few people while I was there. I will probably go back at some point though because that freedom of feeling alone was great.

      Thanks! Yeah, I can't imagine how many times I flip from forward to fakie and vice versa. I think a lot of it comes from the fact that I basically learned to skate playing pickup roller hockey as a kid and that necessitates a lot of transitioning.

    As far as I'm concerned, this is one of your best videos so far! The music fits the images perfectly. Great skating as well! I'm also dreaming of taking my Dragons into the city for some serious urban skating, but too many roads remain wet all day and I don't want to get that beautiful setup all covered in dirt. 😬 It hasn't been freezing enough over here, this winter. 😅

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much, Tim! This edit came together better than I thought it would and picking music can be so fun sometimes. This is probably one of my favorite songs in the past 10 years, so getting to use it in a video was nice. I think the dragons can hang for urban skating! I've got another session filmed in center city on them that I'm excited to edit. They don't hold speed like a 4x100, but holding speed isn't necessarily what urban/city skating is about. I'm not saying I'll skate these forever, but I'm also not feeling held back when using them for urban sessions.
      Sorry things have been wet. Winter sucks. But if you don't want to take the dragons out, it's a good thing you have a few hundred other setups available 😂

    Thanks for another great session, excellent music and really liking the context before the session! I know you've been skating the 5x80 for a little bit, but when you first started on them did you find you had to re-drill some basics or is their profile similar to the 4x100? I feel like I'd trip myself hard doing crossovers when trying a new setup

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! Yeah, I like the doing the little intro bits about the session. So coming from my Endless 100 4x100, it took no adjustment at all. These frames feel less cumbersome because of the rocker and the lower ride height. As far as crossovers, the dragons are only 1mm longer. The Dragon frame wheelbase is 324, plus 40mm each for front and back wheels sticking out past the axles for an overall length of 404mm. The Endless 100 are 303mm wheelbase with 50mm each for front and back wheels sticking out past the axles for a total of 403mm.

      Haha, it was -13 C, not -30. Quite a difference! And it was the "wind chill" they air temperature was -6 C, but it was windy and felt like -13 C. Still pretty cold, I know. The first few lines didn't feel great on my lungs, but once I was warmed up, I was fine. I left the session sweating. What's surprising to me is that I don't have to cover my ears. I guess the helmet keeps my head warm enough (despite the wind) but my ears were warm the whole time.

      Haha, get out there! These frames are fun. They're not good at cruising or top speeds... but urban skating isn't really about either of those things for me. "Playful" is the best word I use to describe them. And they're definitely the best frame I have for flat ground stuff.

      @@Gsfbandit93 Not as well as my 4x100 or my 4x90. I really need more time on them, but they're surprisingly viable as an urban frame. I honestly love the "busy feet" style of skating though. I like having to keep pushing and striding. It's part of the fun. It's why I like city skating and don't want to skate trails or just roads. I would not take these out on a pure distance skate unless I really wanted the extra effort to keep moving at a decent pace. They're not as fun on downhills. It's like they've got a governor on them. It's not like I do any insane downhills, but I have yet to get to that "white knuckle" downhill feeling on these.
      But... jumping, changing directions, starting a sprint etc all feel less clunky on these than my 4x100.
