You can attack twice, instead of once, when you take the Attack action on your turn.
You ignore this benefit if you already have a feature, like Extra Attack, that gives you extra attacks.

So, one thing I like to do as a DM when it comes to paladins is let them smite with bows from ranged because to me that is something that paladins should be able to do.

I’d personally go for dexterity instead of dexterity for the bard paladin combo because it patches up your red saves at the cost of some AC.
