  • With the current chicken craze, I thought this would be a very helpful video. We are upgrading our chicken run from a 3'x6' run to a 5'x10' run. A lot more room for these chicks to roam.

    Perfect for a temporary run I used netting instead of wire for my day use only...left one side open to put up to my chicken pen for extra run.

    I like it alot ... much easier to move... only changes Id make is to do a small panel on the top end to put food in and water in and out easier. then just a giant zip to work as a hinge and some form of latch or rope to secure it. also a tarp on a section . I was going to do a hoop type on a 2X4 base but the finished weight will be too much to move very easily. Good job.. thanks for sharing and loved seeing you let your child help and cheer him on.. Awesome !!!

      I agree with your improvements. Having a hinged section and also a covered section are great addition. This thing was very easy to move around.

    Nice job. My question is how you get the chickens in and out. I'd use this setup to let the chickens graze during the day (in various areas) and return the chickens to the coop at night. I can see myself struggling to get the chickens from the chicken run and back into the coop. There's always one chicken who won't go willingly and I don't want to be crawling in the chicken run trying to collect the obstinate hen. Any ideas since you've been using this run for a while now? Thanks!

    Great video! I have been trying to figure out how best to construct a run for my new little backyard flock (6 hens, about 8 weeks old now). I saw kits to build metal ones from pipes that click together, but none of them are 12' x 12' (they are 10x10 or 10x13, which just won't fit my needs.) I was contemplating about PVC with hardware cloth. Mine would need a door. I *could* use lumber, I suppose, but I would prefer something easier for me to handle and lift. I have no help, I have to be able to build it on my own. Any suggestions?

    I love the simple design. Where will you put feeder/ waterer? Also where will they lay eggs?

    • @ASliceofWoodWorkshop
      @ASliceofWoodWorkshop  4 года назад

      These are not egg layers. Their food and water are raised slightly off the ground.

    Better with 4" or 2" don't need top. put 1 more across the middle use metal roof 1 section removable 3" too expensive 4" not bad. I'm using 2" use screws for wire. cost a little more but if you go too thin on pipe a Fisher cat will get in. Just a thought. 8, 90s 12, tees . I'm going 10x14 or 15. I'm doing 50 meat birds so needs to be at least 10x10

      I googled it. 1 foot equals 0.305 meters... he used 10 foot so multiply it... or you can move the decimal point to the right one space and you'll have it in meters... then half that number for the 5 foot section.

    Let us know how to keep it from a dog or animal from lifting it up from the bottom?

    • @ASliceofWoodWorkshop
      @ASliceofWoodWorkshop  2 года назад

      If you wanted this for a dog or bigger animal you could put concrete in a 5 gallon bucket with an anchor post and tie ropes to it so they couldn't lift it. This is mainly for chicken and that is why the pvc is used.
