But a lot of repairs that used to be “simple” now require expensive software to recalibrate certain parts that need to be removed and/or entire modules. Quite similar. Stick with the old outdated stuff, or pay someone to fix the new stuff. Removing a battery and replacing it in an old phone is much easy than any repair one would do on a vehicle.

    I was only able to remove the largest of the stickers from underneath the battery.
    A trick to make removing the battery easier, is to apply the alcohol underneath it and then use a suction cup on top of the battery and slightly and gently lift and release repeatedly to gradually peal the battery away from the phone. Be careful not to bend the battery.
    Took me about 2 hours total.

    do NOT do this yourself. I've replaced a dozen iphone batteries in the past, but it took me nearly two hours to get the display off on this one, even tho I have a temperature controlled heat gun
    I replaced the battery just to find out that the display is broken now. I was already being really careful, that's why it took me so long, but this thing is so fragile, it's absolutely not worth it if you don't have the specialized apple repair tools!

    Nice. Doesn’t look too bad except for that fancy suction cup tool. Doing a 6s & 8 battery replacement was very easy. Always had to use fishing line to saw the battery glue though. Thinking of grabbing a 12 . The 6s while a great solid device is just too small of a battery. And a battery case kills my LTE signal so I just need a bigger phone. Really should try an android but whatever, I’m anchored to 🍎.

I was in a battery store and overheard the clerk quote a price of $189.00 to replace the battery in this iphone 12! I thought the battery must be really expensive, but no, they run around $40.00! So, the labor, at least at this one shop, is $150.00!!! I thought "I wonder if I can do this at home?" Yup! Here I am watching this video! I believe they did this intentionally, making it time consuming so that more people will just get a newer faster phone than fixing the old one that could last another 2 years. Since when iPhones have become consumable?

Been using it pretty extensively watching hours of videos in 2x speed but still very disappointed in the longevity of the battery. Now the battery goes very quickly down to 1% and it can last hours at 1%. Tried calibrating it but replacement seems like the only way to keep using it...... At this point I'm considering switching back to my OnePlus 5T and give apple the middle finger tbh.

      You’re probably using a non-certified cable. Non-certified cables use cheap parts and have almost no proper chips to properly charge the phone. Commonly, the tristar chip goes out due to this issue. In other cases, further motherboard damage happens. In rare cases, the whole battery literally just dies. But usually, the battery cells are damaged causing the battery to die out quickly.

    • @Carterthielftw_
      @Carterthielftw_ 3 года назад +7

      But why should Apple be the ONLY option for repair. Say your running something like an IPhone 5, I doubt Apple still repair a those, even if they did then the repair would cost as much as the device. What happens when newer unrepairable devices like the X/11/12 become that old? Your screwed.

    • @tospoooky4me-417
      @tospoooky4me-417 3 года назад +2

      You could still do it yourself or go to your local repair shop they would still charge you about 60-80$ but then you are greeted with a important battery message so when X/11/12 get older you may be thinking of getting a new phone.
      For instance take the iPhone 5, you can get one on E-bay for 25-50$ and if you need to replace the battery if you use a good battery like from iFixit they are still 20$ so you may be thinking of just getting a new phone as the other models drop down more and more in price every year.
      My iPhone 6s plus had a dead battery (Would shut off randomly and the battery lasted like 10min) and also a cracked screen I also had the phone for 3 years so i just upgraded to an XS Max.
      Sure the parts weren’t that expensive to repair it but you don’t know how long it will get software support or how much will it be worth in 2-3 years, I sold mine for 80$ which wasnt a bad offer at the time.

    • @Carterthielftw_
      @Carterthielftw_ 3 года назад

      @@tospoooky4me-417 the issue is that if you replace the screen on newer Iphone and samsung A series phones, you end up losing support for things like trutone, in screen fingerprint scanners and you get warning messages. Similar thing with batteries. Modern devices have gotten fast enough that upgrade cycles more than every 3ish years serves no real purpose to the average person. Although resale values will still plummet, I believe current devices need to be longer lasting, not the other way around.
      This argument does go for software too, although I could care less about software updates, because I run custom OS skins, I realize that devices should ship with at least 3 years of OS updates with another year or two of security patches. I think my argument can be summed up in this one sentence - we as consumers should demand better, more cost effective and resource concious devices.
      I was going to end this with a smiley face but realized that the animated RGB keyboard I have loaded on my kindle lacks a colon...
