    Greatest fact is that 1200-plus out of 4257 were generated in Japanese pro league. Only 130 games annum. His hghest record in Japan was 210 hits while the same ICHIRO generated 262 hits in Major League... what does it mean? Japanese pro league is not a high school league nor a AAA or such, and more importantly, if ICHIRO started his carrier in the States, he might have reached 4600 or even more for now simply because Major League has more games to play.

    It's cool he speaks Japanese when his English is actually pretty good.

    I'd like to respect both sides. Rose played in a different era and he's a legend of his time. Ichiro is a legend of our time. Ichiro probably has the better skill level, speed, and fielding. I think it would be fair when debating who is the greatest hitter of all-time, that we respect an argument could be made for either player. I personally pick Ichiro, but I take nothing away from all the legends and greats of baseball's past.

    I think it's more difficult to hit more than 4257 only Japanese league because the games are littler than MLB's and Japanese baseball level is so high!!
    Japan won TWICE WBC CHANPIONSHIP!!

      @yutaman3470 8 лет назад +4

      I'm Japanese but I disagree with you.
      MLB is more competitive than Japanese pro league obviously.
      The reason why Japan won twice was that Japan sent many superstars to the tournament, but America and the rest of countries as well.
      Even Matt Murton said that Japanese pro league's level is in the middle of MLB and 3A.

    I sincerely respect Ichiro who came to a country where he knew no one and established/is establishing a record as well all the people in the States who judge him in a fair way. Ichiro is not only a mere player but is trying hard to make the Baseball together with other great players to a great culture.

    The games in Japan are as high level as in MLB. Japan won twice in the World Classic, America has not. I think since Ichiro started his career in the US after the age of 27 and his best physical abilities were from between 23 - 30 years of age.The US should give Ichiro a break. Pete Rose got over 200 hits per season 10 times in 24 years, but Ichiro got the same over 200 hits in 10 seasons in JUST 10 years. This statistic may put Ichiro at the same level of skill accommodation as Pete Rose. Don't you think so ?

    • @Emmanuel-lc2kr

      I like Ichiro and will take nothing from how great a hitter he is but there is absolutely no correlation between MLB and the Japanese league at all. Not trying to knock the people who play in Japan it's just not the level of competition that plays in the states. Yes, they do have some great players and those that succeeded in the WBC have succeeded in MLB but half or more of that league couldn't make it in the majors. Kaz Matsui was a star there and a scrub in MLB. Wladamir Balentin was a scrub here and broke oh's homerun record over there. Even Dice-K flamed out fast. MLB hits are MLB hits so when Ichiro ties Pete Rose for the most MLB hits, then we can talk.
      With that being said, Ichiro is one of the greatest hitters to play the game.

    • @Shinobi33
      @Shinobi33 8 лет назад +2

      listen there's no reason to believe Ichiro wouldn't have broken Pete Rose's record if he had been allowed to play in the US. He wouldve easily collected the 1,000 plus hits in the MLB. With that being said the Nippon leagues are not at the calibur of the MLB. Its AAA+ at best. That's just the truth. Don't bring up the WBC that's a whole other animal

      There is no objective answer for that. However, considering the level of the pitchers in 60's in MBL and the pitchers between 1992 to 2000 in Japan, objectively the most peolpe see the pitchers in Japan after 1992 have more skills. This is one of the ways to add as an factors to see my subjective answer. 1992 to 2000 when Ichiro was playing there was a super competitive time for Japanese pitchers. Nomo, Irabu, Ishii, Sasaki, etc.... They all eventually played in MLB and they were all up there. Nomo threw no-hitter twice in MLB. Yeah, the variety of pitches they had was sensational in MLB and to the baseball fans in the US. Again, there no way to have a direct comparison but if we remove his Japan record, besides the points I have been talking about here and my two previous comments, this another way to compare the both. Ichiro made his debut at 28 years old in the Major League.
      Pete Rose
      28 years old - 42 years old (1969 -1983) 2,881 hits
      Ichiro Suzuki
      28 years old - 42 years old (2001 - 2015) 2,935 hits
      I do not mind and of course Ichiro would not mind if America does not let him have the title since it is combined record. What I mind is the America's perception that Japanese pro baseball level is AAA or high school levels in America. I wish Pete would not have said what he had said instead these are two diffrent kinds of records but Pete as the king, congratulates another king.

The fact that reached 3,000 hits even though his rookie year was at 27 years old is simply amazing. He won an MVP, batting titles, played great defense and was a great base runner. Ichiro is twice the player that Pete Rose ever was, better hitter and better fielder simple as that. Everyone knows that if Ichiro the human played his whole career in the MLB, he would have smashed the MLB hit record due to the far greater # of AB's per season in the MLB compared to Japan and because he was better. I like how you can tell he thinks Rose is a dbag, there is a reason he is banned for life.

      @@araiba334 But "first division" does not equate to equality of league play. Would you say Korean BB is the equal of Japan, or that Australian BB is the equal of MLB simply because it's "first division"
      Then take into account when Rose was in the minors...pre expansion, and what that means to quality of play. To somehow ignore that the minors in the early 60's was more competitive than Japan in 90's, and you are cherry picking your facts.
      Ichiro is great, love his game, and a better player than Rose was, but no, Rose with 4600+ hits in professional BB is the Hit King.

      First of all I don't think Ichiro's record(the first division) is superior to Pete's professional record. My opinion is that it's nonsense to compare them. If someone do want to compare them and make judgement, then they should take the two player's MLB hits into account and Pete wins.
      If a player gets 5000+ hits in KBO then he is the man with most first division hits in history.
