Dubai is only bedroom for sheiks where they spend their money and build fancy attractions but all the oil sources, gasports, oil refineries are OUTSIDE THE CITY. It's like saying that USA do not produce anything because New York City's main money maker is financial and tourism sector.

the rest is investments .. businesses .. tourism
so i think it will survive for the next 50 years since it already beyond the "oil stage"
and Dubai is the 1st city to have Electrical taxis .. which shows you how much they are fully committed
many countries have oil like Venezuela or Nigeria in fact more oil than Dubai
but putting the resources to use require good thinking and a very good leadership

They aware trying to run away from an oil dependent economy, that's why only 5% of its GDP comes from oil, because they know their oil won't last forever. So they try to do many massive projects to attract tourism and get money from tourism.
