New Title: Guy criticizes micro-compact for being a micro-compact
True story.
Duke, you can't please everyone
They are harder to get that perfect grip on.
That being said, I carry the Shield Plus, which wasnt available when this video was posted.
The reason I say that is because I genuinely think the Shield Plus feels like it's a subcompact in a micro package.
There is the 15 round magazine option there bud. It's a "Micro" pistol. The word "Micro" should be the biggest clue. That the grip is gonna be "Small" no one is gonna use it as a tournament gun or range gun. Poor big handed people can't run a Micro compact grip.
If this gun was labeled HK, he'd be gushing all over it. Saying..."its fine that it moves in the hand guys..its a mirco 9mm after all!!"
Every negative you described for the hellcat is inherent to pistols this size. No one can shoot these Micro’s well enough to make them a fun range gun. These are guns for deep concealment with very good magazine Capacity period. You practice enough to be competent at civilian self defense distances when you need deep concealment like at work or gym.
I have 25,000 rounds downrange this year, Jim. And I taught about 300 students on the range this year, so I get to see a lot of what works and what doesn't.
@@ASPextra You can't respond with a I know more than you attitude when Jim Assalone's statement is 100% true.
@@tylerl6589 He can reply "I know more" when his take is 100% correct. "No one can shoot these Micro’s well enough to make them a fun range gun." "No one" is a very broad, and false, statement. I run an XDS and it's better than the Hellcat. It can be use for much more than deep concealment (though it's even heavy for that!).
Jim Assalone keep in mind he’s reviewing this for a wide demographic of firearms owners.
Not everyone has experience with micro 9’s, so pointing out the inherent flaws of a smaller handgun allows them to make an informed decision. It may sound redundant to you when he points it out, but without mentioning it newer people would be asking themselves why everyone doesn’t carry micro 9’s.
videodistro the point is the hellcat is as capable as every other small GUN in this category. It just takes practice.
Do you want Concealment or grip? You give up something to gain something.
Yep.
Exactly lol. Shoots a subcompact, complains about grip. Full size pistol if you want grip
Exactly .. expecting too much out of that gun. Its a good reliable gun with 13 round. Cant complain
The struggle is real
@@JoseGarcia-lf4gx yea but its 600 lol
500 rounds without any failures or issues and reliability is "ok"??? Sounds like a bias to me.....
Springfield has a Hellcat that just completed 20K in July 2020. I guess it's "okay."
Lol he was super biased in his first one. The Hellcat just isn’t for him. And I agree he doesn’t really shoot it well.
And XDs are great guns just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean it’s not a great gun.
He could have said “It’s a small gun, shoots flawlessly and is accurate, but it’s small and not an HK and I don’t shoot it well so it sucks”
"This small gun is small! I can't get my big hands on this tiny gun!! I wish they made a big tiny gun!"
Complaining about a small gun that was intentionally design to be small and actually being small.......wow.
Way not to pay attention.
@@ASPextra I did pay attention and you did spend a lot of time bitching about something that was designed into the gun for a very particular reason - to be small. I get it, you mention how small it is and how it doesn't fit your hand. That gives us perspective. But then you go on and on and on. Who fucking cares? Tell us about the gun specs, facts and other relevant stuff we would like to know. You made your point. The gun doesn't fit YOU.
I've liked many of your videos, especially when you analyze shooting incidents and break it down as teaching points. That's the reason I subscribed to your channel. And I also get it you don't like SA or the XD series of guns. We all have opinions. But after watching your channel for so long, I also know you are shit at taking criticism. You're always right and never wrong and anyone who disagrees with you is incompetent or doesn't know anything about guns. Guess that's because you're SpecialReconNinjaForces -10th degree Lavender Belt. Whatever. Get in your first firefight and then tell me what that's like.
Get over yourself. Keep it up with the video reviews and analysis. Stop the gun reviews. You suck at that because you are unable to differentiate between facts and your opinion.
@@slayer8actual Spot on bro! This shill is joke with his myopic reviews
I've owned and carried mine since February. I shoot it at the range every week. I've got normal sized hands, so it works pretty well for me.
What kind of hands are "normal sized"?
@@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 medium glove size I would presume? Good question
for men id say a large(glove size) is avg.... women idk im not one.
This gun comes with an 11 round magazine and a 13 round magazine
PUT THE BIGGER MAG IN DUMMY!
@@joesanchez3657 Wouldn't medium by definition be the average and large means that they are slightly bigger than average?
I think the Hellcat is a nice size compromise between the p365 and the Glock 43x. My pinky hangs off the p365 but does not hang off the Hellcat. I also like that the Hellcat is a bit smaller than the Glock 43x.
Just bought a hellcat today totally worth it I have big hands but I understand that when it comes to small handguns like this your going to loose comfortability I wouldn’t choose this gun to go and send a hundred rounds down range for fun this weapon is for conceal carry protection and the fact that it’s so easy to conceal and lightweight but I still get 13+1 it seemed like a no brainer
This is so funny my wife is 68 years old and has small aurthrittic hands and has no problem shooting mine . Of corse she didn’t no there was a problem with the trigger so she didn’t have one lol...
Ok so I purchased a Hellcat today AFTER watching this.. I must say to every viewer out there,
Try. It. For. Yourself.
I absolutely love this gun. I purchased the OSP because the RDP is overpriced for its features.. I purchased a 15 Rd Mag as well as a HOLOSUN 507K. I just ordered the adapter plate online!
I purchased this gun STRICTLY for conceal carry comfortability! I have a Glock 19 & a Glock 17. This firearm is AWESOME for conceal carry!!! Idk if they have fixed the trigger or what but don’t let the trigger rumors detour you! If you know how to shoot a gun or HAVE shot a gun this firearm will be no issue! ONLY when I deliberately tried to push the trigger at an angle did I notice the trigger will not engage and that’s awesome to me because I don’t have to worry about accidental discharges! I holstered my weapon and quickly drew my weapon and grouped shots beautifully! This firearm is NOT a long range weapon! It is in fact a COMPACT CONCEAL CARRY GEM! if you need a firearm because all your other guns are just too big for conceal carry this little thing is awesome! I’m waiting for my adapter plates for my holosun but I already love both the optic and the firearm.
Lastly, if I have to attend an event or be in small to medium sized areas where open carry may not be the best option this is my GO TO for conceal carry! If I’m outside or in a fairly large area I may go with my Glock 17 as it is a full sized handgun, or maybe even the 19 because it is only a slight difference in size but noticeable when both firearms are concealed.
Learn your firearm so you understand how to use it in any scenario & at any range/distance (It is a compact gun so don’t expect to be SNIPING targets) Guns don’t shoot straight PEOPLE shoot straight. This gun is accurate when the right steps are taken & with patience and practice.. I got it down within 5 hours of owning the firearm.
🫡 Salute
Did you just insinuate that I don’t know how to shoot a gun? That’s just inane.
@@ASPextra I did not, Lol. I actually enjoyed your video sir.. I just want people to give it a chance rather than taking what you’ve said and making an ultimate decision based on YOUR experience.
Both my wife and I like this gun. We tried both the p365 and this Hellcat and she likes the hellcat. The sight is awesome. She is not and experienced shooter but she was doing very good with those sights! I personally like this hellcat also. It’s awesome!
I always appreciate the honesty. I own one and love it and I would say I have small hands but it works for me.
The left flopping ear kept most of my attention on this video! I wanted so badly for someone to fix it. . . . .
I need to get a new pair.
Lol same here
Weird, in our CPL class we learned to grip the gun correctly with just our finger and thumb, and to keep all other fingers relaxed during the pull. So if you're gripping the gun tight with your 3 fingers specially that pinky you might be getting some inaccurate shots.
That is 100% incorrect. The handgun is essential a lever, recoil force at the muzzle transfers to the magwell, bc the web of your hand is the fulcrum.
Next, the 5th finger, your pinky, being as close to the magwell as possible, and also compromising about 30% of your grip strength; plays an extremely important role. Watch any high level shooter, how can they have a relaxed grip, but fire an entire magazine in 2 seconds without the gun moving? The relaxed fingers argument is dead right there.
Lastly, your civilian CCW instructor is likely just barely more competent than you. Most are not a great resource for shooting advice.
@@nyrangeguy3194 Bob Vogel (Grandmaster, 8x World Champ) and Pat McNamara (20+ year Special Forces) have the best two how-to videos on grip on the internet. Neither of them require the pinky to secure a good grip and control recoil hahaha.
the size of your hand has no bearing on the quality of the gun. i have humongous hands, and i absolutely love this gun. I also shoot just as good with no pinky, you just ned to practice a little bit. Go watch hickock45
Honesty moment: if you shoot a handgun as good without a pinky on the gun as with, you aren't a good shooter.
Hickok45 is way better than this dude. Hickok has huge hands, and he was shooting way better than this guy could ever dream of. This guy is just another dope with a camera and an opinion.
I’d love to watch hickok45 take this chubby guy to school
Dude, carry a bigger gun. It's about being concealable and higher capacity. You definitely seem to not be a fan of the brand. It's not a match pistol, it's designed to get you out of serious trouble
@@lionsbreath22 he has serious issues with Springfield in general. He's a Glock HK fanboy who dreams of being as popular as Hickok 45
Love all guns. Replaced my 43 with hellcat. Great decision I made! Love it!
You speak facts I'm in contemplation over my 43 but even though I got 2 plus 2 mag extensions I'm goin with the hellcat 13 +1 you cant go wrong
I am 5’9” and the HELLCAT fit perfect .
6'1" also fits perfect
Ditto 6-1 and perfect I love my Hellcat no issues whatsoever
"She couldn't get the trigger safety to release"... So she does not know how to properly shoot a firearm. Okay...
That’s inane and wrong.
Glad I got small baby hands because this gun shoots nice and smooth for me it’s very comfortable. It was definitely the best choice and I got the OSP model as well.
People sometimes get to wrapped up in things they don't need to worry about. If you can hit your intended target at 10 yards with reasonable accuracy you've accomplished your goal. With over 30 years plus of carrying a pistol, a smaller more comfortable pistol to carry sure out weights a pistol which is uncomfortable to carry and prints. Yes if I'm going to shoot lots of rounds it helps for my pistol to be a great fit. Reality, I've put over 5,200 rounds through my P 365 and as many thru my P 938 at the range and I can deal with little quirks. I have ZERO rounds fired in self defense and I don't miss the days of carrying a pistol that wasn't comfortable to carry.
Do you get a “full” grip on your G43?
With the Vickers +2 mag extensions I do. Without it, not a chance and it sucks to shoot. :)
John...You just hate Springfields 😆
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH! ;)
Jose I tend to agree. I have several Springfield XD mod2 and XDS and they have been flawless.
@@cjennings4936 I was trying to be sarcastic Chris. I do not like Sprigfields. I am a Glock guy. I have bad experiences with XDs. John doesn't hate Springfields
Jose that’s a bummer I have both the xds 9mm and xds mod2 45acp and have never had a single issue. But I’m sure someone somewhere has had issues with everything gun.
@@cjennings4936 Hey Chris, if the Xds work for you, then that is the right gun for you. For me, Glocks work like charm.
I rented both the Hellcat and the Sig P365 and shot them side by side. I went in wanting to buy the Hellcat. I have 3 other Springfield's I walked out with the Sig. The P365 has a softer recoil. The Hellcat felt like the Glock 43. It has what I call the Glock.40 sting from the web of my hand down to the palm. The 365 recoil felt softer. No sting
Dqalex I have heard this again and again, however for my hand the grip is much nicer than the 365. I actually enjoy shooting my hellcat, where as the 365 felt a bit too small.
I’ve had bad luck with Springfield pistols, and every single one I’ve had has been sold. Two of mine had to be sent back to the factory (one on a recall for runaways, and another for a broken grip safety).
I really wanted to like the hellcat, it seems to have a lot of good features, unfortunately the only one I’ve seen in the wild blew up on the guy next to me with what looked like an out of battery discharge.
Ooh sheesh, runaways? That is bad.
@@ASPextra runaway might have been the wrong word. The recall was for a potential discharge when loading or double fire with one trigger pull. Still bad though.
A black sharpie will solve the high viz sight issue for you.
You're not wrong, but I wanted to show the gun as it comes in the box.
Never had any complaints or problems with this gun. Love it.
Yeah if your hands are in the majority of the bell curve you should be fine.
I've got medium small hands. I carry a walther pps mod 1 with a 6 round magazine. My pink dangles significantly, however I shoot it only slightly less accurately than my other full and compact size guns. When dumping 5 rounds as fast as I can my group size and speed is comparable, sometimes better.
Point is dangling pinkies are almost entirely mental.
I have the pps m2. Awesome gun.
And I've seen a 10,000 rounds test with the hellcat pass with flying colors
One just passed 20K.
That’s what made me buy mine.
I'm not big on red dots for guns this size or pistols in general bc I think it would slow most new users way down. Thus I LOVE the sights. They are my favorite out of the box sights.
Your grip is slipping because:
1) your elbows are too close to locked, bend them slightly
2) support hand isn't canted forward nearly far enough
3) likely not gripping tight enough
4) likely not applying rotational pressure to grip towards 12 o'clock using lats and shoulders
BAHAHAHAHA thanks for the tips. They're all wrong, but thanks.
@@ASPextra cackle all you wish big boy, it's still your grip slipping not mine. Leatham, Enos, McNamara and Vogel must have it all wrong too.
Active Self Protection Extra he’s a little bit right though especially with the elbows thing
Hickok45 doesn't use his pinky at all. He even suggests you get use to not using it when possible. It only lengthens the lever from the fulcrum (top of the grip) and causes more movement during firing. I've gone to his way of shooting and it really works better. Pulling down with the pinky (a small, hard to control digit) is sketchy. Don't knock it until you test it out thoroughly.
He's not a firearms instructor and he's wrong about that. If you don't understand the science of recoil control and the physiology of the hand, you can make mistakes like that. Here's an explanation. ruclips.net/video/ypsUsNJ9Z4g/видео.html
Hickok45 has to grip it like that, I imagine he has very large hands being around 6'13" tall.
I quit messing around with micro pistols because i just can't shoot them as well as a compact handgun. I would rather take a 12 round full size handgun than something like a g43, p365 or hellcat.
Im looking to get my first gun. Would this be a great choice for my first handgun?
Maybe. I have and love my Sig P365. Wanna try the Glock 43x
I think I'm gonna go ahead with my hellcat purchase. An excellent review! Thanks for sharing the content with us.
How has the gun been holding these couple of months?
I just got mine!
Any updates?
Mine is on the way can't wait
Just purchased my hellcat pro, absolutely love it.
for that gun, i had to change my support hand grip. had to move it down just a bit to kill the snap.
500 rounds no failure is 100 percent reliable. It's not the gun thats not reliable its the operator who cant hold a gun.
Going to love mine, will make my hands look big;) but really, never even had one in my hands, however I’m glad I didn’t base my choice on this vid alone.
I still daily carry my Kahr PM40... Sure you sacrifice capacity, but it's the perfect CCW IMO.
Everyone told me to go with the shield. I fired them side by side and ended up enjoying the hellcat more. To each their own I guess.
for me with average sized hands choosing between the p365 and the hellcat I chose the hellcat for the same reason. I couldnt keep my pinky on the p365, it was just really uncomfortable and i have heard great things about it, so i get where youre coming from.
Could not agree more. I have always told my students that "fit" is very important. Point ability, and grip fit are a HUGE part of accuracy and speed.
@Jono Holmes True in many respects. At that distance most will not use the sights but rather index on the slide as a whole or simply just point the gun. HOWEVER, at double arms length I encourage the use of sights and enough dry fire practice that one can fire the instant the arms reach extension (proper index that come from proper grip). I consider them inextricably linked as a part of "accuracy". You have no idea how many Cops have missed multiple shots from 3 feet or less.
Got mines & don’t give af what he gotta say
XD gang stand up!!!!
STAND UP!!!
My XD subcompact 9 has over 5,000 rounds without a malfunction. 🤷♂️ better than my glock.
I am curious, why does he or others hate on the XD? I have a springfield xdm, it was my first gun, I am just curious what people say.
gruanger not sure either. Some snowflake gun owners I think. (Probably Glock owners)
@e fred Which still doesn't answer the question? What did they do or why is the gun bad? I don't follow that closely so I want to know.
@e fred Lol, people familiar can give one word that helps in the search and specifies the specific topic. I of course will research it myself, but I didn't make the statement, John of ASP did, so I thought maybe some of his fans already knew. Lol, E Fred, why are you hositle on the internet. I have been nice up to this point, but it seems you have issues. Do you talk this way to people you meet on the streets?
@@gruanger It's called "personal opinion". Stop expecting everyone to like something that you like. He made it very clear about 100 times in this video alone that these are "his" impressions and that they may not apply to others.
Hickok45 is 6'8" and didn't mention this hand problem in his review.
Hickok45 is also not a firearms instructor and not a defensive handgun shooter.
This is like driving a Miata then complaining about interior space
Mine is being shipped to my ffl now. Can't wait
Interesting, about the xl hand size. I wear xl to xxl gloves. I have shot the Hellcat several times and like it a lot! As a matter of fact, I just ordered one. I plan to carry it with the flat base on the 11 rd mag, and keep the 13 rd mag as a backup.
My current edc is a Glock 27. Love it!! I find that I shoot all of my subcompact guns best, with the most control and accuracy, with a flat base and my pinky finger wrapped under the mag. I actually put a bit of grip tape on the bottom of all my short frame guns’, mags.
I have shot the Sig 365 with the flat base and I also own and carry a Glock 43x. Like all my subcompact guns...even with these massive mitts!
Craig P exactly, I have fairly large hands, and I've always been more accurate with subcompacts with my finger wrapped around the bottom of the short mags than with the extended ones. I'll have to try your trick with the tape.
Its weird no one seems to have any problems with this gun. Me and my brother have both had problems. Hes had problems with the slide not locking back on last round and we've both had problems with the slide locking back when the magazine was still full. I love the size and wanna carry it but I cant trust it with my life.
Should mention that when big hands like mine (I’m 6’3) shoot it, the mag literally comes out by itself while shooting, or pinches your hand .. kinda a big problem for big hands but the 365 doesn’t seem to have that problem
Wow, I haven't had that challenge but I wonder if it's because I am lefty.
You're at C2 tactical! Greetings from Chandler AZ!
I’m a 20 year old, turning 21 in a week and change and I’m planning on this being my first firearm. I have smaller hands. Not tiny but smaller for a guy. But I will be test firing a rental one with the 11+1 and 13+1 before I decide to go out and spend the money.
I've found the Taurus G2 c 12+1 is the most comfortable gun!! Ya its a taurus but its comfortable!
Larry W You should not be admitting this in public...
I have the Taurus G2C as well and shot over a 1,000 rounds and never had any issues
I used to own the gc2. Was flawless. Never had a issue and the grip felt great. Trigger not bad just wouldn't break until it was almost all the way to the grip
I used think same thing till I got my S&W sd9ve, this grip on that is perfect
We recently got these in at work(Sportsman's Warehouse, Avondale, AZ.) and I like it much better than the P365. The grip feels better to me and I like the sights a lot more.
I’d like to see an updated video on the Hellcat! They seem to have fixed the trigger, and they have 15 round magazines that also help with getting your pinky on the grip! I have one that I carried daily (until I got my P365 XL), and it was kind of tough to be accurate with, but all around I really enjoyed shooting and carrying it.
I did a video on the Hyve extensions that do the same thing as Springfield's 15 rounders. Haven't seen a trigger fix.
@@ASPextra I never had an issue with the stock trigger on my Hellcat. I watched all the videos of people complaining about it, and yet I personally never had the issue. I did upgrade to the Apex trigger about a year ago. (I’m an Apex fan and have a lot of their triggers in my guns.) It’s a ton better then the stock trigger, so much smoother, like all Apex triggers.
I also run the Hyve extension. Still amazes me that a gun this small holds 14+1.
I feel like if you have to mention that you don’t hate something... you might just hate it. If people say it’s not about money, it’s most likely about the money, if people tell you it’s not about not disliking something, it’s probably about disliking it. Not the best review but still enjoy what your doing.
I have a video on why the XD is not a good gun and people accuse me of hating Springfield. I don't hate Springfield, I just call balls and strikes.
Good commentary explaining your specific issues with it and who might be a better fit for this gun. It would be interesting to do a comparison of the Hellcat to the P365 and Glock G43x.
Keep up the good work.
There is already a very good review regarding the P365 and Hellcat on "Justin Opinion" channel just type in that title on his channel
I've never seen you make a good remark on Springfield. I have an XD mod 2 and absolutely love it! In fact I let my wife shoot 350 rounds thru it last weekend and now she is trading in her beloved glock 17 for a springfield. Just saying, dont listen to these youtubers who make a video and tell you something isnt good for you based off how it sucks for them. Especially when they may be biased towards guns and gear that they have affiliations with.
The Springfield XD's rap on my thumb knuckle at the top of the grip too much and get them bloody. The beaver tail is much too wide. No other firearm is that wide. Even the XDS is too wide. Beside the fact they screwed us in Illinois, I don't find SA firearms to be very good.
I feel like you literally didn't watch the video.
I keep on hearing about the trigger safety being an issue. Really second guessing buying one.
Gear Barrel it’s not a trigger safety issue. Run any gun with a flat faced trigger with a trigger safety and you will see the same issue if your hand isn’t the “right” size. I put a flat faced trigger on my g45 and hated it because it would “catch” and hang up because the way my finger interacts with the trigger due to it being flat. I do not have any issue with my hellcat.
My hands are practically purpose-built for the Hellcat. My fingers are long enough for large gloves, but thin enough for mediums. It fits incredibly well - but that speaks to why you should test-drive anything. 👍
Fair enough!
Thanks John. Great job. I’m still waiting for the Hellcat XL.
Dude they JUST released this one!
Exactly. Every time I buy a new gun, someone comes out with a better one. I’M WAITING!
Trying to decide on either the hellcat or the p365.. the hellcat fits my hand better but which one has less felt recoil ?
There really isn’t a discernible difference.
Just get the 15 round mag that Springfield sells, and it will fit exceptionally well in large hands like mine. It barely adds much overall size the the gun but 2 extra rounds and a WAY better grip..... I’m gonna get rid of the 11 and 13 round mags it came with and buy more 15 round mags!
This video was made before they offered the 15 rounder. I have a video on the channel of the Hyve extension that’s basically the same thing and solves that problem.
I suggest putting just a thin, vertical strip of skateboard granulate grip tape on the front strap of the grip. Not big enough to come around onto the sides of the grip where it'll rub your skin and clothing while you're carrying. It should be enough to hold your pinky and other fingers in place when you wrap your hands around it and shoot. Put pieces in the same location on the mag floor plates too so it's one continuous strip of granulate tape. I could almost guarantee that a front strap of granulate tape will work wonders for you. I have both rubber and granulate Talon grips on some of my guns; rubber for carry, granulate for range guns. The granulate is AMAZING on my Glock 20 and helps keep the gun planted with my very hot hand loads. Totally changes the way you can hang onto the gun when shooting. It sounds like this would be a mod that would greatly enhance your fondness of the gun. :)
Time for a custom grip extension my friend. Every gun needs some custom touches.
I bought a Smart Car, it's reliable, starts every time, and is easy and fun to drive, but I don't have enough room. I'm a big guy and I don't fit in it very well, and there's not enough cargo space. They need to make it bigger.
Or you buy a bigger car because it doesn’t do the actual job.
With the 15 round mag from Springfield, that should fix the issue with the small grip..
I did a similar video about the Hyve extensions. It's in the pinned comment.
Hyve Technologies makes a set of extended base plates that look like they'll give you the extra grip length you are looking for. They also increase the 11 round mag to 13 and 13 round mag to 14.
I researched and shot the hellcat a ton before I walked out of the gun store with a P365.
themailman43 I’m actually considering that, I do carry the 365 with 12rd extensions...has a tad bit of play in the pinky area so yea, XL would be the perfect gun for me.
themailman43 I bought the P365XL and I absolutely love it. It’s an awesome gun! I’m thinking of getting this Hellcat because why not
The P365 and HC are so similar that it really is a tomato vs tomoto kinda thing.
I love the hellcat and sig p365. Used to carry a glock 19 and the difference in comfort is huge. I have large hands and have no problem keeping a good grip on either the sig or hellcat. My wife is very small and has tiny hands. She can shoot the hellcat with zero issues
I carry a Glock 23 and I’ve been wanting something smaller. I’m thinking I am going to go with the Hellcat!
I have the hellcat and it’s a snappy ass pistol. Like it seriously wants to kick itself out of your hands.
Physics isn't a suggestion, it's the law. :)
John: Yesterday I traded my M&P Shield (ver 1) for a Hellcat... which was bundled with the Mantis X3. I wanted to get the Mantis X3 but my shield didn't have the mount. The Hellcat is comfortable in my hand, I like the sights and the higher capacity mag was very attractive to me.
So, this is from personal training that I have taken. The dominant hand should be gripping at 60% while the support hand should be 100%. I get that the pinky doesn’t fit but that hand shouldn’t be controlling recoil the most but instead the support hand should. If I’m wrong please let me know why but since learning this technique, I’ve shot MUCH better
ruclips.net/video/ypsUsNJ9Z4g/видео.html is why. There's no "60 percent" on either hand.
The issue with the trigger safety has been resolved if you buy one new.
At this second I am carrying a Glock 26, I run it ok. That said I have small hands, not freakishly small hands so it’s not that. It’s the thickness of the grip. So the thickness of the grip coupled with the reach to the trigger makes it difficult. So a shorter grip is for me is not a problem. I’ve did find the younger people do have monster hands.
If the G26 is too wide for you, you might like this gun. Try a G43x too or G48.
I have both the glock 26 and the glock 43. I shoot the 26 better. About the opposite of what you're experiencing.
I find the thicker grip of the 26 makes it easier [for me] to keep a tighter and more controlled grip. I'm just more accurate with the 26.
The G43 [for me] tends to drift slightly down and left....some call that "milking". Not badly, but if you've a lazy grip like mine, you will notice a slight decrease in performance. The grip of the 43 is very skinny and it is harder [for me] to keep it as steady. We're talking about noticeable groups about 2-3 inches down and left from center at about 7 yards. I've shot it enough that it is consistant like that, so I figure that's good enough.
I'm getting a bit older too, and I don't kung fu grip the heck out of the things.
@@ASPextra The 43x is just amazing. I rented one at the store to try out, and was so impressed.
I have the G43 and the G26 too but I just don't have the use for the 43x.
The 43x is heavier, and a longer grip. Not a lot harder to conceal, but I prefer the smallest and lightest gun in effective caliber that I can get.
Nowadays I alternate between the smith 642 and G43.
I would buy the 43x in a nanosecond if it came with a rail. I'd replace the G19 as the bedside gun with it. My wife would have an easier time with the 43x with her tiny hands.
Now me personally, I like to carry subcompacts and I expect that they won't be as comfortable or as accurate as a full sized gun. We trade capacity, comfort, and accuracy for weight and concealment. One fellow I knew gave me the best advice ever on selecting my first carry gun: "the lighter it is, the more likely you will carry it".
I got a hellcat coming in this week
reply back here once you put 500 or so through it and give us your thoughts. Do you have sausage fingers or shoestring fries?
Hickok 45 doesn't seem to care about not having a pinky on his grip 🤷♂️
He's a good guy. Also not a firearms trainer nor a defensive firearms practitioner.
@@ASPextra yet proceeds to hit every target 🤷♂️
My Hellcat has had less than 500 rounds. I have no issues with grip. However, it won’t fire at times for unknown reasons. For example, I pull the trigger…. Nothing. Rack it and shoot again….. Nothing. It might fire properly the third or fourth try. Any advice?
Get that gun to a gunsmith pronto.
Medium hand here, pistol fits great, all three fingers fit.
Seems a bit nit-picky. I have one. And you should train with it with the grip in mind if this is your carry pistol. But since it's a self defense pistol, if you can dump two mags on a pie plate in quck time that should be good enough.
I got to shoot this gun last weekend and it was like any other sub, but I hated the trigger. All my guns that have a flat trigger are about the same how they sit which is closer to 90 deg which I like. This hellcat the trigger sits more like 45 deg and I just did not like it. If they straighten that trigger out, it wouldn’t be a bad little gun.
I'm not particularly excited about that 45 degree angle, either. It's what makes it a no go for my wife.
Powder River is coming out with a new trigger shoe soon. Hopefully that plus their new trigger kit will make this a nice firearm to carry and shoot. Link ruclips.net/video/sqERLE8RorA/видео.html
Bro concerning the grip just put the 13 rd mag in or buy a hyve mag extension. Now you can even get a 15rd mag
I showed you the 13 round mag in this video.
It’s basically a Sig P365 that doesn’t shatter its firing pins. It’s not for me but my wife is interested in it. I am a left hand dominant individual as well. My wife truely loves her Sig P230 .380, so it’s hard to say. Her combat commander is pretty sweet as well.
LOL I was shopping recently for a new subcompact, and though the p365 tempted me, that reputation of breaking firing pins made me stay with glock.
Can’t blame you one single bit!
Might be an age thing but I daily carry a M1911-A1 I built myself, for me. Sculpted to my hand and for ME. In muggy hot summer I switch to an Officer’s framed-Commander Slide M1911-A1 Compact I built for Me, by Me. I have my very own recipie on building M1911-A1’s that encorperates my previous experience as an Army Aviator and metallurgist.
--->Momma loves her Sig P230, loves her custom Combat Commander built by Me for Her out of Luv, but she is looking at the idea of going up to a 9mm over the .380. It’s just that it’s damn hard to find a gun more perfect for her than her Sig P230, as it’s better than many/most out there now coming out. It’s a shame the P230 and P232 were removed from the line up, it could have been upgraded to 9mm.
Ghost Ok, good to know.
I just don't get these videos complaining about concealment priority handguns having a problem keeping your pinky stabilized .
Because they specifically designed the mag extensions to be able to put the entire hand on the gun.
@@ASPextra Wouldn't it be better to just buy a larger pistol if you need more accuracy at more distance . I just don't think my pinky hang is going to have much affect on a two to seven foot shot .
Oh but it is. Speed and accuracy are required at that distance as well, and you're assuming you're going to have a very close shot when the reality is from the main channel that we see gunfights start at 5-7 yards and even more with regularity.
@@ASPextra Well yes , I agree sometimes you could need to be proficient at more extended ranges , but this I know , thats why at my personal range most of my shooting distance is at 33' , about 90% of time spent with subcompact 9mm because for me I need most practice with this weapon , the rest of the time with 9mm AR pistol and pump shotgun and sometimes with various other weapons .
Your videos , I believe , are invaluable and anyone interested in self protection and protection of their families should watch them , not just watch but scrutinize as I have done , it will help in reviewing different scenarios in your mind and help you be more prepared for things that one hopes never happens . All good citizens whom want to protect should be sure they are prepared to accept the responsibility and the consequences , carrying is not a movie nor a game it's serious business , know WHEN and how to use your weapon .
I have found that grip tape on the front of the grip solves those sliding issues from recoil. It won't rub against the skin.
Grip tape can help, but it's all about available real estate.
I enjoy Springfields but this one was a miss for me. Glad I borrowed and didn’t buy it 😂 I’ll stick to my M&P Shield. Good video dude!
Jono Holmes I’m a smaller frame person, it’s easy to conceal 🤷🏻♀️
@@heatherneff1769 I just took my hellcat to the range yesterday I love it
@@heatherneff1769 and you can't go wrong with the shell either but my hands are too big for it
John Doe if it’s practical for you, give it a shot 💯👌🏻
Heather Neff wish S&W would release a optic ready version of the shield
John, I'm trying to make my mind up between the Hellcat and the P365 SAS for a summer carry. What's your thoughts?
Pluses and minuses. Indian not arrow. All that stuff.
I would take the regular P365 over the SAS and over the Hellcat.
The SAS sight system is hard to be accurate with unless you practice a hell lot. And Springfield sold us out. So, P365 my choice!
@@P_double_H What I like about the SAS is it does not have a slide release (being a left handed shooter this is very appealing) I have learned to use my left index to release slide locks but would be nice not to have to.
Hellcat is my choice. It's sorta up in the air whether Sig finally has the 365 repaired to where it doesn't destroy itself within a few thousand rounds... The primer drag is still incredibly severe even with the latest generation of 365s on the shelf. The 365XL is good to go. The Hellcat is definitely good to go too, and I prefer the red dot over irons or the bullseye SAS sight.
Hellcat I just got one and I love it
Does anyone know of any blacked out suppressor-height sights for the hellcat (pro osp)?? Desperately trying to find some. Use them on my PDP with 507c and want them for my hellcat.
Great video, as always. I noticed the tattoo on your arm (not ASP one). I just found out the meaning on that a little while ago and think your awareness / acknowledgement is awesome. Keep up the great work 👍.
Thanks Eric! Mental health is a very personally important issue to me.
I have huge hands and have never had issues operating my wife's hellcat, comes down to the operator, don't buy a micro if you don't want a small weapon, that simple!
I bet you'd shoot it better with proper technique and pinkies on the gun.
The pinkie issue is, as I see it, just about it being a small gun made for concealment (but having enough rounds). If you want a small concealable gun, I don't see a way around it (?)
Hickock45 hits the gong at 80 yards no pinky
Slowly.
Try the 15rd magazine. You'll get the grip you're missing.
Note that I have a second video on the channel with the Hyve extension, which is functionally the same thing. Also note that the longer mag makes concealment harder.
Checkout Hickok 45's channel. He is 1911 45 caliber gun guy through and through!!! However he put the HC thru its paces and see what his thoughts are!!
You are the champ John
Thanks Greg.
Spencers keeper wrote me back says they don't have a holster for the hellcat
ksgarmory.com/product/kaery/
He filed the back side of the trigger blade and beveled it and his fires now as soon as the blade was pushed then
Thank you or the review. I didn't see it until after I had already bought my hell cat a bit ago but the info seemed spot on.
Despite it’s low capacity, I’m still holding to my opinion that the M&P shield 2.0 is the best micro compact for large handed people. It has a ton of real estate compared to this new generation of guns.
A viable choice at the very least.
and it doesn’t conceal as easily as the Hellcat or Sig
Great video. Been keeping my eye on the hellcat...
One quick question for you John, what is the point of the trigger safety? If there something in there that is able to pull the trigger wouldn't it just activate the trigger safety anyways and let the gun go off? I ask for the reason you said your wife can't shoot the hellcat. My wife has also had issues with deactivating the trigger safeties like this. I have also almost not been able to deactivate these safeties every so often.
I feel they are like the back strap safeties. I don't like them either. If you happen to not get on either just right they won't let the gun fire. I will say I am new to the trigger safeties. So far I don't like them though.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks
The trigger safety is what makes the gun drop-safe. Remember the problem with the Sig P320 going off when dropped? That's because it didn't have a trigger safety. That safety prevents the trigger moving under inertia if the gun is dropped. So it's an important safety feature in a striker-fired pistol.
@@ASPextra Thank you. That makes sense also because my VP9 is my first striker fired gun.
@@-The-Bob- it's also required in a select few States under the guise of a handgun roster to prove that it is safe.
Just don't understand these people on RUclips whine about everything about any gun, adapt and overcome the situation and I've got huge hands I wear a 3xl glove and I can shoot it fine.
Gee, you'd think that me giving actual subject matter expert advice for free on the internet would be worth something to some people. And you shoot it "fine." Okay, Alan, let's see your B8 and uncut video of the Advanced Test with it.
