    Done this climb 22x now, best advice is do at least once a month so your 30 day stats are posted on the left. Then use those numbers (watts and time) from previous bests and try to just beat each sectors numbers. This will lower your time quite a bit. I went from 83 min to 59 in about a months time.

      That's awesome Chris! Good advice. I've got a 20 mile trail run at the weekend then after that I'm going to be cycling a bit more. Hoping for a race or alp once per week 🤙

    As prep for real-world climbing Zwift can be great, but it's worth ensuring the climbing feel is set to 100%. In this video you're spinning a cadence of 85 to 95 rpms on a 10% grade, which may be unrealistic on the real climb where your gearing will put you at a slower grinding cadence. The low cadence will burn your legs where higher cadence leans on your cardio engine.
    For reference, my first trip up Alpe du Zwift took 44 minutes, because I didn't know what to expect or how to pace.

      @@alexreader thank you! Didn't do any pacing strategy. Went with the feel and what I thought I could do constantly. Stood up for a bit on the highest percentages. Some strategy would probably help right now for the nex attempt.

    It's a good climb Im new to Zwift but at 56 years old and 57.8 kg climbing is my thing.
    You could possibly try some standing training and the bring that into your next attempt.

    To get under the hour you need to put down and average of 3.2 w/kg. Slightly less if you are drafting other riders in an event. You might try different pacing strategies as well. I found that starting just a bit easier then 3.2, and gradually ramping up the power. Hurts much less that way and I got my fastest time. Good luck!

    • @alexreader
      @alexreader  2 года назад +1

      Cheers Roy! I've sinced figured that out, but 3.2 w/kg is right around my FTP I think. So maybe on a good day with pacing like you suggested I might be close 🤣 I tried it again not to long ago but definitely went out to hard and burnt up. Il try building into it next time

    • @RoyImahara
      @RoyImahara 2 года назад +2

      @@alexreader My best time right now is 58:08 with an average of 2.3 w/kg. This was back in November of 2021. I rode an almost flat power all the way up. Not sure how I did that really. I had a good day and was able to hold the power. Earlier this year I did it again and failed to get under an hour because I went out too hard. Had to do it again and started slower. The ride was much less painful and I finished in 59:30. Haven't done that ride since. It hurts too much. I guess it would be just like a full hour FTP test. My average power on my best time was 227 watts. My ramp test at the time had me at 230 watts so I was at my limit for sure. Keep up the good work. My first time up the Alp was 1:25:06!

    You'll get there.. I was a 3.3 w/kg FTP rider and got up in 1:01:26 hahaha, I went away and did 6 solid weeks of SST training and came back with a set target in mind.. Basically aim for 3.2 w/kg on each switch back, so for me was 195w, if I did better that's ok .. if I did less than 195w I had to make it up on the next switch back, it was a hard ride but I managed to do it in under 60mins.. keep at it.. your not far off the sub hour mark.

    9:21 Thats a great time 71mins...I did 80mins and am also with muscle which is my and your downfall. I know skinnier guys that lack the muscle but get up the Alpe in less than an hour. I have lost about 15 pounds of muscle in the last year and have improved my time by like 15 mins up the Alpe. My goal is in the next 6 months to loose another 5-10 pounds of muscle and I should be able to do it in under an hour.
