Classic Tailback - Herschel Walker Georgia Highlights

- A compilation of some Herschel Walker's collegiate highlights at the University of Georgia. From his legendary freshman campaign to his stellar junior year, Herschel Walker was consistently brilliant over the course of his hall-of-fame career at Georgia. A rare mix of size, speed, and power, Walker was the rarest of running backs; one who could run over defenders just as easily as he could run past them.
The games I used to take the clips from can be found on Stephen Barnett's youtube channel (and there were a few other channels I used as well that you can find if you look around): / sbbarnett244896

In that season, Georgia had a three pronged offense...Herschel left, Herschel right, Herschel up the middle.
Chris Coulter on god he got 51 caries in one game before
Lol. Yep.
The playbook had four plays:
Toss Sweep Left to Herschel
Toss Sweep Right to Herschel
Handoff to Herschel
Pass (to Herschel of course).
Everyone else’s “assignment” was to get out of Herschel’s way so you didn’t get hurt.
Legendary I formation 🏃♂️ running back, he was the man at Georgia
XD makes sense
Lol
greatest college running back of all time. and the dude still runs a four something forty. unreal.
Akill Allah Barry sanders better
+Utah Utes I don't know what you're basing that on but the statistics and records say different.
Akill Allah Barry was a better NFL back and he had the single greatest college football season in history
+Utah Utes better NFL career sure but I guess you never heard of the New Jersey Generals. Herschel broke Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record in the USFL. And Barry doesn't have as many college records as Herschel.
how about greatest over all college player ever
The amazing thing about Walker in college is that he was 80 to 90% of their offensive plays. It was usually sweep left, sweep right. down the middle with walker. He just could not be stopped. Always felt that the Dallas Cowboys never gave him enough touches running the ball because he had the ability to wear defenses down and never get tired.
Georgia had one hell of a good offensive line, or Herschel wouldn't have been as phenomenal as he was.
RUN HERSCHEL RUN🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I'm an Eric Dickerson fan and when you watch the distinct different running style, E.D. upright and Herschel with just outstanding forward lean and pad level. Before Randy Moss used the moniker The Freak Herschel was the original. And I'm a P.S.U. fan and have that Sugar Bowl on dvd, the real Curt Warner out gained Herschel and won. But he's still fuckin' AWESOME.
He was a very linear runner. Not a lot of cutting or juking but he hit those holes and shot those gaps SO FAST and then was just too damn powerful for most defenders to take down. He hit like a Mack truck. lol
In no particular order, my best NCAA HBs
Herschel Walker
Bo Jackson
Marcus Dupree
Eric Dickerson
Tony Dorsett
I thought that your list of the best went like this: Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me?
I have a Herschel walker jersey It has a #34 on it Also Farted in the UFc
Runs like Bo Jackson! Man I miss the RB era
Bo could avoid people better than Herschel!
The point about Herschel is that everybody knew he was getting the ball. Yet it mattered not.
Exactly this!!!
Count how many times in this video UGA lines up in an I formation with one or NO receivers...
The other team’s coaches and coordinators knew before they even arrived at the stadium that Herschel would be getting 30-50 carries and all they had to do to win was stop him.
Yeah hut it wasn't fair. The defense wasn't sure if he'd be running the left tackle or the right tackle.
Yeah, and I recall that Bulldog Oline being undersized too. That Pitt team they played in the Sugar Bowl dwarfed them on both sides. GA had virtually no pass game to help the cause. Walker really was amazing to watch back then. Short strides, crazy strong, and lightening quick. He made defenses look like they were playing in slow motion.
Exactly. Everyone in the stadium knew he was getting the ball and still couldn’t stop him. It’s not like they had a great passing game to take the pressure off Walker.
Yet Penn State won and Georgia didn't.
Lol when your running back is as big as your lineman and faster then your receivers
Couldn't have said it better, he was ridiculous.
Best college back in history. 2 two 3 thousand pushups a day world class sprinter speed and big.
Lol. Yup. Had it all and could do it all: run over you, around you and by you. And could even catch passes. GOAT 🐐... at least at the collegiate level.

Dwight Love he’s 6’0, I met him and was taller than him and I’m 6’2
One of the most overlooked personality traits of Herschel Walker was how humble he was. Even after his first collegiate touchdown against Tennessee, he always would attempt to find the referee and hand him the ball after he scored. Very respectful. He always looked like he had "been there before."
I've never really cared about how "humble" or respectful a player is after a touchdown. I mean, I think that if you score a touchdown, then you can do whatever you want.
However, I do think that players look dumb when they do all sorts of theatrics when they go crazy after simple first down runs.
I had read years ago, that Hershel trashed talked his opponent but in a much different way, like killing them with kindness, after he ran over a guy, he might kindly tell them I hope I didn't hurt you,
Or he might say , I'll be coming right back this way in a minute!
All in his humble polite manner, he didn't need to be arrogant, he was the real deal , and anyone that tried to tackle him figured that out real quick!
@@Darin-USMCB-- Herschel Walker a great athlete and a strong christian
I care about it.... Humility is what's missing today and some of those guys could use a dose. Hershels excellent attitude is part of what makes him exceptional

#34 is a special number for a running back. Totally agree.
@@apartida123 Ah yes, the forgotten one. No one ever talks about him & he was one of the most complete Running Backs of all time.
Everyone knew he was going to get the ball and they still couldn't stop him. Best college tailback every. He could have won the Heisman every year he was at Georgia. No one would have complained.
Coaching Advice: looks like the best way to tackle Herchel, since he doesnt lift his feet to high when running, is to get your torso tangled up in his feet when he's running over you; but keep your arms in tight as not to get them mangled up in his thighs when his stomping you.
Sounds like some good advice.

Back in the days when the running backs were the biggest and fastest players on the field.
Now, 300+ DEs are snatching RBs from behind.
MARCVS LICINIVS CRASSVS I'm pretty sure he would still put up yards. No one knows how to tackle anymore
Barkley could change that
@@JRV4606 barkey dont even compare with walker
@@CleanMusicLover229 I was about to say, these defensive players are very athletic but no where near as good as the players or yesterday. They simply don't know how to tackle.
It seemed like the running back was more important than the quarterback in those days... it's not like now where you build around the QB....
The GOAT. That's MR. GOAT to all you non-Dawgs fans. Don't forget it.
I like this Walker guy. For some reason I think he should be a senator.
Hershel made more defenders miss tackles than anyone in college history, he would either make them miss, out run them or just flatten them as he runs them over, doing All in such an effortless manner.
This video shows numerous examples of how it would take 5-6 guys & a whole lot of luck to bring down this magnificent athlete!
I could watch him all day!
I would say Reggie bush was more elusive
Barry Sanders was easily more elusive. Herschel was fast and could truck right through guys. He was also really good at finding gaps and hitting them. Barry CREATED gaps where there were none. His juke was lethal and no one could tackle him when he used the sauce
1 Hershel ...holds the fastest 100 meter time by any running back with over 2000 career yards. Durable and extremely tough.
2 Marcus Dupree the most beautiful back to watch ever.
3 Adrien Peterson
Violent, rugged and ran mean as hell.
4 Reggie Bush the most electrifying ever
5 Bo Jackson level headed competitor. Did not understand pressure. Unflappable.
6 Dalvin Cook monster talent. Probably made more big plays in big games than anyone else. Winner!!!!
Kovačević Dobrina BARRY SANDERS ???
Don't forget Alvin Kamara
You gotta switch Reggie for Barry bro. Barry was sooo much more electrifying
Kovačević Dobrina ..there is obviously alot of running backs you haven't seen ... especially from the 70s era
Optimus Prime 8 who???
Hard to beat Herschel......so much excitement in Georgia during those years when he was playing. He is THE reason Georgia has its national championship, but certainly the whole team was amazing in 1980. Lindsay Scott's catch against Florida will never be forgotten, either. The team never gave up. Looking back the following few years, if not for crazy endings against Pittsburgh and Penn State, Georgia would have had two more NC also, but it just didn't end up that way, but those games were close. You can't forget that guy, Marino, who played for Pittsburgh.....one of the best to play the game. I will never forget that last touchdown pass he threw that won it for Pittsburgh.
This dudes does 1200 push ups, 1500 body squats and 2000 crunches daily.
He did this before games.
This is a X man in disguise or something :-)
Tone B how and who does 1200 push ups every day??? sheesh😬
I wish he had went into the NFL under the right system because he should be in the NFL Hall of Fame. Him & Bo Jackson was just a like but Bo Jackson was on a much better NFL team. H.W. should've been on Denver with John Elway.
Jay-Rock Donald Trump screwed up Hershel’s career.
Don’t forgot he wasted some time on trumps football team.
The greatest of all time.
That title goes to Bo Jackson .
I personally watched Hershel play every home game at UGA and several of his high school games as he truly trashed my Alma Mata , and several away games and most of his bowl games. He was a natural. He and Walter Peyton are in a class all their very own. True use of God's gift.
What school did you attend????
And Bo. You forgot Bo Jackson. But, yes them 3.
This man ran a 4.22 that's .22 miliseconds short of the speed of light!
THIS is what got me watching College FB in the early 80"s.
I like Walker and Jackson don't forget about Marcus Dupree, Earl Campbell and Jerome bettis they punish the defense.
Considering how players dance around celebrating a first down when their team is getting trounced 63 - 0, it is even more impressive how Herschel Walker handled himself after doing things that actually gave reason for celebration.
Herschel Walker was the greatest natural athlete to ever play college football. He was phenomenal.
That's a load of unadulterated CRAP ! That title goes hands down to Vincent Edward BO Jackson !
Bo Jackson would kindly disagree
Cmon ya know that title goes to bo Jackson he was literally the greatest natural athlete ever
lawrence taylor or deion sanders or bo
@@leebowens2631 Herschel is in the conversation. He was also a several sport athlete. Track, wrestling, and even was an MMA fighter for a while in his 40s. He ran a 4.3 40 at 6'1" 230 lbs, and was an all American in both track and football 3 years straight in college, and broke a world record in the 60 yard dash in that time
only thing missing is the play calling by Munson all the way thru this
Normally I would welcome a Keith Jackson football call but Munson would have been better even over the great Keith jackson
One of maybe ten RB’s to out run the angle.
That offensive line deserves more credit. Look at those giant gaps they create!

Herschel Walker is pretty much of the only individuals I've seen the opponent team players help to pick up after tackling him.
Future US Senator
Georgia's o-line was amazing, with these blocks, no wonder he got so many yards
mike phillips....ha...nice try
That is very true. Georgia had really good offensive lines, but Herschel was so dang strong and fast that one or two guys by themselves were not going to bring him down easily unless they cut his legs out from under him. Usually it would take at least three guys to get him down.
best that ever lived

H.Walker is one of the greatest athletes of all time. He completely dominated the playing field. As a Tennessee fan, I still remember Herschel Walker running over Bill Bates like he wasn't even there, and Herschel was just a Freshman. Neyland Stadium went silent.
And Bill Bates wasn't just an ordinary college player, he made All-American that year!
Dorsett a lot better player.

Here is a man who gave his best for Georgia, NFL, Track and America loved him. Now America is laughing at him and digging up his life and saying he can't make a complete sentence. The O Jays had a song, and it was called Wake up Everybody.
If you cherry picking the personal traits of a person, you can make anyone seem like a great human being!! However, it doesn't work that way!!
One of my greatest memories of Herschel was when he just flattened a defensive end on a block. He was a great all around player, just always hated the fact that he went to the USFL at the beginning of his career; he would've been known as one of the greatest if he would've played in the NFL. Can't blame him though for going for the cash.

The definition of a self made man. A true phenom and a class act on and off the field. No one greater will ever come along.
Walker couldn't hold Bo Jacksons jock strap and that's a fact !
He tried to murder a car dealership employee and threatened his ex wife at gunpoint. He’s an incredible athlete and a dogshit person
Class act??? If being a pathological liar, abusing and threatening wife and girlfriend, fathering 4 children and being dragged before the courts to pay child support. If all of this is a class act to you then you are just as sick, dumb and no moral character as Herschel. The dude is a fraud!!
god, remember this as a freshman in high school and walker was a beast in his freshman year. and if im not mistaken they won nat. championship
Yes in 1980 . 12-0 National champions.
the guy from SC won the Heisman that year as a senior.. Walker had a few more yards that year beat South Carolina that year and won the national championship .but still gave the Heisman away
Les Mach 11 - 0
Randy Johnson. Yeah, George Rogers. That guy spoke at my freshman h.s awards ceremony. My coach played with him at S.C.
+Jeffro Bodine he was strong...Walker was a little better but a freshman versus a senior
The most impressive freshman running back in history hands down, he looked NFL and everyone else looked high school...
Of course Bo Jackson, Sanders, peyton were great, but let's keep it real on big plays and speed size and power...
As a life long Alabama fan, I will say Hershel Walker is the greatest football player of all time. Whoever you think is better, think about it. I know there are stupid and rabid fans. Them aside, objectively, he was the greatest. And a fine man too.

This is more like every play from 2 games more than it is a highlight reel of a career. It is hard to find any Herschel Walker material though and a lot of this footage looks a lot like game tapes rather than broadcast footage.

You are looking at the FIRST FROSH to be recognized as a HEISMAN NOMINEE.
Should have won the Heisman his freshman year, but back then they didn’t give it to Freshmen. One thing people never comment on was what a great receiver he was in college and the pros. Look at his numbers for a running back.
