So true! I was in elementary school and lived in Georgia during this time. My parents were both Tech grads, but our whole family were Herschel Walker fans.
Herschel Walker IS a beast, got to see him play live in college and the NFL.Absolutely ran all over people.Always showed up to play an showed a lot of class.
We played him in high school. I'm younger than him, but I remember him for he was towering above the other players in the huddle. He ran all over us. Straight beast. Saw him when we hosted the track meets. We had a very fast guy but Herschel blew him away in the 100 yard dash.
He should have gone straight into the NFL. One season in the USFL Walker ran for 2500 yard! One season! He should have played his best years in the NFL.
My dad and I were at the game sitting in the end zone that Walker scored his first touchdown in. To watch the play develop was amazing. The defensive back took a bad angle on the toss sweep. To see him have to stop in his tracks and try to recover to no avail was simply something I’ll never forget!!
First time i saw him was against south carolina and the heisman winner ( George Rogers ) that year. Herschel blew my mind. i told my friends " i just saw the greatest running back eve r".
We had a great defense that year too. SC (a great team also that year), was driving on us late in that game and might have won but our defense (I don't recall which player) knocked the ball out and we ran the clock out.
Just that first part where it shows Walker, with his build and his tight fitting uniform, and then it transitions to the kicker with what he had. It got me 😂
I spoke with Herschel while he was visiting his then-girlfriend at Oglethorpe House in 1982. He was very polite, genuinely humble, and instantly likeable. He was wearing a black, red-trimmed jogging suit. He looked no less than 240 pounds, yet I know he weighed 225. His chest and thighs were huge.
Herschel was amazing! Also, look up high-lights for Earl Campbell. Loved Herschel at the Cowboys, but followed Earl from Tyler, to UT, to the renowned Houston Oilers.
Ain't nuthin' better than watching Herschel Punish the Gators!!! How bout that fullback though???? A position football has phased out but I'd love to see Georgia implement it again
I was contracted to do some work on an offshore platform when this game was played. Due to some issues, we couldn't work that day. But I still got paid, double time for 16 hours, too...
Hershal was a Damn Good Dawg!! He was super human fast and strong! Even ss an older guy! You can tell just by his hand shake how steong he still is! Even in the off season when he was with the Eagles he would run by the house everyday during the summer and his moms house where he would stay in the off season is like 5miles from my house! He stayed in shape while most back them probably took a brake! When i was in like 7th grade i remember asking him how he got so strong and stayed that way , he told me every single day no matter what he said he would do 1000 push ups and 1000 sit ups everyday!! So i tried it obviously it paid off except in couldn't do it everyday though lol.. I did run every single day though at least 3 miles somtimes more but usually just 3miles... I miss him in the league he was always a beast but a damn good Dude!!!
I watched 1980 Herschel Walker and then watched your video of 1983 Bo Jackson. Now, you would really be a miracle worker if you could find some film also from 1983 on freshman Greg Allen, FSU's RB who ran for 202 yards against LSU in Baton Rouge and the following week ran for an NCAA record of 323 yards against Western Carolina.
Fantastic game by the greatest back of all time...don't forget Lindsay Scott though in this game! "There's going to be some property destroyed tonight"!
Adrian Peterson is certainly in the conversation. Marcus Dupree as well. Both were the strongest players on their respective rosters and the fastest as 18 year old freshmen.
There’s a reason why Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson, and Marcus Dupree all have 30 for 30’s on them. All athletic phenoms (size, speed, and strength). Adrian only finished second in the Heisman as a true freshman after starting only half the year.
I watched this game. Except the end when Georgia got the big play late to win it. Wayne peace was Florida's QB and Chris's Collins worth was Florida's #1 receiver.
🎉The Legendary Buck Belue to Linsey Scott. "GO LINSEY G😅" !!!! I'm from Georgia, 👀 game live and totally A) thought Hershal left that year for Pros. & B) He had 238 yds. Everyone remembers Belue to Scott because that game was a nail-biter.
I grew up watching & preferring big backs, like Hershal Walker, Bo Jackson, Marcus Dupree & Keith Byers. Those were the days, and they were all must see TV!!!!
I was excited when the Eagles acquired him in 92. People don’t realize he only had two 1000 yard seasons- one with the cowboys and one with the eagles. He was frustrating- usually a two yard gain but then he’d break a 60 yarder. He definitely didn’t have the lateral, shifty moves of superior backs but his breakaway speed was world class. Too bad i now think he’s a nincompoop.
The kneel-down thing hadn't been invented yet. The play wasnt "busted." (And quite frankly, I wish teams had to run an actual play, not just touch a knee.)
My father in law and I was at this game. Walker had 7000 yards at half time. Gators continued to tackle high instead of taking out the legs. Pitiful. Go Gators
I HATE Georgia and especially their head coach but I agree that HW was THE most talented running back in college football and not just in his freshman season.
Herschel was a one trick pony, he was not elusive, had no shiftiness with his hips, he was/is one of the most overrated and overhyped running backs of all time. Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders were by far better athletes
As someone who was in Middle School at that time it is almost impossible to describe his impact. He was like a superhuman to most of us back then.
Amen, brother.
He went from superhero to super republican dummy
Definitely
So true! I was in elementary school and lived in Georgia during this time. My parents were both Tech grads, but our whole family were Herschel Walker fans.
I was in high school when watching Walker make history as the FIRST FROSH to be a HEISMAN NOMINEE.
Walker was unstoppable at Georgia. Teams knew what was coming, and still weren’t able to stop him.
I played against Herschel in high school he was a Man amongst boys!
I played against Bo Jackson sucka
Johnson
Glad you survived to tell it.
Herschel Walker IS a beast, got to see him play live in college and the NFL.Absolutely ran all over people.Always showed up to play an showed a lot of class.

He even ran for Senate!
He should have gone straight into the NFL. One season in the USFL Walker ran for 2500 yard! One season! He should have played his best years in the NFL.
Power & Speed 💯

To see highlights on video instead of grainy film footage was a treat in 1980. Herschel was the reason.
Watching Walker brings back so many memories. I remember this game. Walker ran all over Florida. It was a great game for the Dawgs.
If only they included the Larry Munson call, especially on the Belue to Scott throw. Legendary. 👍
Just that first part where it shows Walker, with his build and his tight fitting uniform, and then it transitions to the kicker with what he had. It got me 😂
Saw both walker and Bo play live and bo walked passed me in the hotel and the guy was a specimen just like walker
No comparing. But Take a look at pics of Len Bias. For the time? Holy Shnikes. Young men weren't built like that back in those days. Very few.

Herschel Bo and Marcus Dupree were amazing to watch
Dupree no one talks about but he was awesome.
@magruderwhit2765 It was a great time for watching great RB's back then. I'd add Eric Dickerson to that list too.
Always loved Herschel bc I'm a lifelong Dawg, but Marcus Dupree had unparalleled field vision.
What amazed me was the fact that he was only a freshman in this clip, 18 years ago!!!
You mean 18 years old....
To this day he is my favorite college running back.
A game I never forgot, hated him for being so great!
Best college football player of all time
Some people said he should have won the Heisman Trophy when he was a senior in high school. jw
Walker was simply amazing. Reminds me of McFadden at Arkansas rushing for 321 yards in a game against Spurrier and South Carolina.
Run Lindsey! Lindsey Scott! Lindsey Scott! Lindsey Scott!
I was 8 years old when I first saw Hershel play in Athens…The Best Memories of My Life…Go💀Dawgs
Great speed
Greatest all around running back every
No. That would go to Bo Jackson
Toss sweep after toss sweep and a minimum 3 yds every time😂 love seeing all-carries vids of Herschel
The most amazing thing about Herschel and his carries. Is that the longer the game went the better he got
He was awesome!!!!!
Greatest college football player of all-time. No question.
Ain't nuthin' better than watching Herschel Punish the Gators!!!
How bout that fullback though????
A position football has phased out but I'd love to see Georgia implement it again

Fantastic game by the greatest back of all time...don't forget Lindsay Scott though in this game! "There's going to be some property destroyed tonight"!
Some people just don't Realize how good those SEC defenses were back in those days. The 1600 yards he had were well earned!
1880 yd.
Up to that point that was never a freshman running back like him
I saw Barry Sanders in his last college game-Holiday Bowl. Look that up. Insanity
He and Bo are the best ever
He was 18, no freshman back was as powerful and fast as Herschel Walker.
Adrian Peterson is certainly in the conversation.
Marcus Dupree as well.
Both were the strongest players on their respective rosters and the fastest as 18 year old freshmen.
@cconnell7009 Bo Jackson is somewhere smiling
Bo is in the convo, too, for sure
@@cconnell7009 Yes he is

when Walker broke loose you heard the announcer say "lookout"... you knew right then it was over..
I watched this game. Except the end when Georgia got the big play late to win it. Wayne peace was Florida's QB and Chris's Collins worth was Florida's #1 receiver.
Him and Bo were special
I was on the field for only time Bo abd Herschel squared off 1980 Jordan-hare in Auburn
Best College running back ever. Im not a walker fan. This guy should have got the Heisman his freshmen year.
I was at this game, 8 years old. 🤙

Love the the vids, but nobody has ever done one on the greatest ncaa duo ever insane stats(chase clement & jarrett dillard) Rice football
From the same conference. A couple of 1000 yard rushers from SMU. Best combo of backs until Sony and Chubb
Thurmond Thomas and Barry Sanders was probably the best backfield ever. 2 NFL hall of famers.
Think my eyes are deceiving me. The WR's are blocking. I haven't seen a WR block in a looooong time LOL
This was the era of THREE YDS AND A CLOUD OF DUST
I grew up watching & preferring big backs, like Hershal Walker, Bo Jackson, Marcus Dupree & Keith Byers. Those were the days, and they were all must see TV!!!!
Georgia had two plays that day: Herschel to the left and Herschel to the right. 😆
Three plays Walker up the middle
I knew he was big and fast but I forgot how punishing he was. Those DBs were pretty gun shy by the second half.
I’m glad the 80s had their Ashton Jeanty
Hershel deserved to win the Heisman in his Freshman year.
Toss right toss left
Most good backs have great burst, but not necessarily top end speed like WR's. Hershel (and Bo) both had all-time 5th gears.
I was excited when the Eagles acquired him in 92. People don’t realize he only had two 1000 yard seasons- one with the cowboys and one with the eagles. Yo Al Michaels been commentary since 1980!
Before.
Offensive line is quite good.
5:45 first time I've seen 'victory formation' become a 'busted play'.
Imagine if the QB got a neck zinger and missed the next game.
The kneel-down thing hadn't been invented yet. The play wasnt "busted." (And quite frankly, I wish teams had to run an actual play, not just touch a knee.)
Look at the end again, dummy. The RB should never have hit the QB like that on a play like this. @@HorsepowerHouse
They would award the Heisman to a freshman back then no matter what, by the deserved it more than Rodgers did
My father in law and I was at this game. Walker had 7000 yards at half time. Gators continued to tackle high instead of taking out the legs. Pitiful. Go Gators
Damn how many tosses are they gonna run?
This guy was almost as great as OJ. An amazing college athlete.
About the same time I first started smoking
Marijuana, 30 mi away in Trenton.
NJ NATIVE LOL
I never heard of him until he joined the cowboys
I'm more impressed by the blocking than I am by Walker
Really?
I love me some Herschel Walker, but the 238 yards he rushed for in this game is under what Barry Sanders AVERAGED per game in 1988.
… against less class defenses no less. 🤦🏻♂️
As an Auburn fan I admired Walker more than I did Jackson. My reasoning for this is Jackson was a bully as a child. Walker was bullied as a child.
BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYET EVER?
Herschel "day hit me in the head" Walker....
Watch how many times on those long runs 'Run Lindsey' Scott is downfield blocking.
A selfless teammate.
All of those yards don’t mean shit with only one TD! Bo was faster!! Bo Knows
Walker shud have been our first multi Heisman winner.
He would have joined Archie Griffin
I wanna see it with Munson calling it.
And Georgia beat Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl to win the national championship. Go Dawgs
Should've won the Heisman that year over George Rogers
He has a daughter cheerleader at UCLA 😮
he was never tackled by one
I HATE Georgia and especially their head coach but I agree that HW was THE most talented running back in college football and not just in his freshman season.
You should probably rechannel your "hate" and "jealousy" to something that matters.
no comment I got it
Was a big fan of his until....
I'm sure you think Hilary and Biden are just wonderful. 🤣
Herschel was a one trick pony, he was not elusive, had no shiftiness with his hips, he was/is one of the most overrated and overhyped running backs of all time.
Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders were by far better athletes
I'm going to say Bo Jackson was better
because he breath that good air from China 🤣🤣🤣
He wasn’t shit. The real king of running backs is Barry Sanders. Every other man is 2nd
A great, great player, but still an idiot when it comes to politics.
Really not all that impressive when you see he had 40 carries!
Yeah, really good point😂😂😂. 40 carries? What a wus.
yea, he clearly should have gotten 50
This was before all the head shots😵💫
Watch Herschel Walker play against my baby brother in high school.well all i can say my brother the pirates took.them to overtime. But they lost.
Barry Sanders best college football rb
