    It's indeed a gorgeous knife and you managed to keep yourself together, good on ya lol. Seriously though Jim, I love hearing people who are at the level of collector you are saying that you carry what you have and that the wear or minor blemish isn't a flaw but adds to the knife. I'm a firm believer in not having safe queens and I'm glad this is going to be with you so often. That beauty deserves to be shared.

    Excellent score. I know the feeling. My grail was/is the Sniper Bladeworks DH. It's been my dream knife for almost four years. Either the shop wasn't taking orders, or I didn't have the money, but usually both. When I finally got the money and they were finally taking orders, I finally got my hands on one. When I received her in the mail I almost died. It's still my grail to this day. I love it so much that I'm having a one-off-custom SBW that I designed myself being made for me as we speak.

    Jim, one thing I would like to point out in a positive light is the fact that you carry your knives no matter the cost of it and I truly respect you for that. I'm your average knife person and I cringe when I carry my most expensive knife which is $140.

    While I do consider several knives to be grails (some of which are being made for me in the next few months) I hope to one day find my ultimate grail, a lefty Anso. He no longer makes lefties so finding one is pretty difficult. Almost nabbed one back in March but missed it by a few minutes.

    Well, you have to understand that this was "the knife" that sparked my interest into stepping up from productions to customs about 4 years ago. And knowing that I would never own one... well, that is a big deal. Then to get it and to feel how buttery smooth everything is, and to see that the fit/finish is on par with, or better than customs worth more than double... yeah, totally grail-worthy. But don't worry, I have more recognizable grails incoming ;-)

  • @MisterLaForce
    @MisterLaForce 11 лет назад

    You got a point there, but in my perspective a grail knife can often be connected with a higher price. You really want this expensive knife and you dream about it but because of the price it is so far away that you can't have it (yet). This and also the fact that customs are more rare make this "grailness" effect stronger. I only have one custom and my grail knife is the other custom I'm on the list for (it is under 600 bucks) but for the rest I'm perfectly fine with my production knives.

  • @JimSkeltonKnives
    @JimSkeltonKnives  11 лет назад

    Someday I will, but I will only buy secondary. Snody makes some fantastic quality knives, and he deserves the reputation he has earned for being a top-tier maker, but I will absolutely never buy anything direct, or that somehow will put my money in his pocket. Ever.

    Hi Jim.
    Can you please specify why don't you like tip down carry?. Thanks.

    • @RedWhirlWind
      @RedWhirlWind 11 лет назад

      probably the off chance it might open and jab him?

    • @dramdan1
      @dramdan1 11 лет назад +3

      RedWhirlWind well in my opinion there is a greater chance for this to happen when knife is carried tip up...

    • @dramdan1
      @dramdan1 11 лет назад

      In my understanding a tip down carry is just more likely to fall out off the pocket. Dew to the heavier part of the knife at the age of the pocket.

    • @JimSkeltonKnives
      @JimSkeltonKnives  11 лет назад +2

      Because in a tip-up when you draw the knife, it is in the proper position already, with tip-down you have to change your hand position on the knife. Tactically... not good. Also, if a knife tip down were to open in your pocket (which with a flipper can easily happen since the flipper tab can be engaged by the rear of the pocket/lip/seam) and you reach into your pocket, the tip of the blade can go through your hand or fingers. This happened to Vance Rhodes. Went down to the bone. With tip up carry the blade just cannot open, and even if it did, the tip faces the rear of the pocket, not toward the front where your hand or fingers would be.

    • @o.w.i.m
      @o.w.i.m 10 лет назад

      Jim Skelton Hmm .. I also prefer tip down. Most of my pockets are either tight or low. So I Always extract with thumb on the pivot, middle finger along the clip side toward the spine of the handle and index-finger on the thumbstud if the knife has one, or just along the other side of the clip if not rotateing it with my fingers for a solid clasp and then deploying as the arm comes up/forward.
      Just does not work for me tip up. Its like wiping my ass with the wrong hand after 33 years of doing it one way my damn spine wont alow my left arm as easy access as my right =D
