in the last minutes ive been saying thanks to all bloggers in knife comunity for teach so much in this time about knives, thanks to people like you i've get my first job and now need to tell you how great full i am,your high-end knife collection on bodegas,on benchamades, and so many other knives teach me how damascus compares to others steel and how cool can the knife word be...just thanks all the way from corrientes argentina and please never stop making videos. :)
+Tiberiu Nicolae That clip though, I want a 3-D machined one for that price. That clip is freakin ugly. I'd probably take it off. But yeah, the knife is sooooo gorgeous.
The reason I really respect John Grimsmo is that his knives are so precise. His fully machined knife is perfect, and the tolerances are amazing. He makes something that just can't be achieved by hand.
The model that you shown down the main demonstration model is simply amazing. The handle reminds a Dolphin and the blade is just a piece of art. Brian Tighe is without a doubt the best and most creative knife maker out there.
Wow this is the most impressive/gorgeous costume made pocket knife i seen so far ! And believe me i seen meany costume designs, but this one is so beautiful. A real work of art, very impressive folder !
Yup. That right there is a once in a lifetime / bucket list knife for me. I carry the CRKT version daily and have for years. I can only imagine what the real thing feels like... gratz Jim, enjoy that work of art!
I think that pattern is from folding in a cylindrical pattern. The Japanese actually have a similar process, but generally folding of the metal materials create imperfection within the materials and shift the atom around while the heat revert it back. This process eliminate impurities such as sulfur from the iron and yes, it does create a cleaner steel.
I definitely love Brian's work too. The first time I checked his website out I was shocked at his price points. Very reasonable. Would you say he is sort of underrated in the knife world or is he just doing what he loves for the consumers also love, in a great price? Overall great piece Jim. Blue is my favorite color for knives so this one is for sure knife porn.
Knives can be made in different ways, someone who makes it with insane computer and CNC skills is no less of a knifemaker than someone who uses a grinder to make a blade. An argument can be made for the CNC guy being more skilled than your average custom knife maker with a grinder.
I agree. One can imagine the same "knifemaker" argument going on when people started using powered grinders rather than files, pedal-powered grinding wheels, and general hand finishing. A similarly silly argument currently goes on in the bladesmith (forged blade) vs knifemaker (pure stock removal) arena. Of course guys like Grimsmo are knifemakers, they just substituted one skillset for another. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be justifiably more impressed by guys like Wilson who are able to obtain such unbelievable precision without ever letting a computer touch their work. Computers are supposed to be beating us on these things.
Awesome blades Jim! Loving the CNC skill and artistry of Brian Tighe. So enjoying your logic that you don't see John G. as a knife maker...LMAO! I should ask John to send you a Pimped up Norseman for your 15,000 sub give away. LOL P.S. He actually had a little grinder that he just upgraded to a larger one for softening/champing the edges mostly because it is faster, but don't tell anyone.
I have actually considered finding someone with a Norseman for a Gust Blade soon. I am actually getting more and more curious. And now hearing he is going to start using a grinder excites me, I can't wait to see what he ends up going.
Jim Skelton Well you do have a point, he is coming at it from the other direction in a way. There are whispers of an integral frame in the future, I can't wait for that. You will probably run into him and his brother at one of the next Knife shows if someone doesn't send you a Norseman first. P.S. Is the deposit on the little red Corvette, because that would be a great B-day gift! ;)
That Brian Tighe dama steel looks like a feather that fell from a Ninja Eagle ( purposefully of course, just so it could let us know divinity had actually been here )that was created and sent by God himself to rid the world of people who like to say " Errrrgh why the hell you spend that much bucks on a knife maaaan" I coulda bought 10 millian Ka-bars blah blah blah blah.........SLLLLLAAAAASSSSSSHHHHH, thou shall suffer the Holy Ninja Eagle mortal weakling"
Mr. Tighe's knives are a little too fantasy for me personally but that being said he was a super guy to meet and the quality of what he does was outstanding from what I saw. On top of that, I agree... his prices versus the some of the other makers seems like a ridiculous bargin.
I have no idea how he charges as little as he does, I've had a lot of Tighes and every one of them was perfection, the designs are stellar, easy to carry, ergonomic, quick to open and close and built with tight, consistant tolerances. Brian really thinks his knives through in the way the end user will integrate them into their carry routine, which is what's so impressive about his work; he has a lot of designs and they all make fantastic carry knives.
How do you sharpen your knives They are all so expensive and you Carry and use them so I was wondering how you keep them sharp On a cheap production knife it would be easy to sharpen yourself but with fancy steels and blade shapes it would be a lot harder.
I'm fortunate to have friends with vastly more experience than me with sharpening. I don't trust myself not to screw up a $1000+ blade, so I leave it to the pros :-) I'll strop, but when a new edge needs to go on....
The Tighe Breaker i got from Brian last month had the most horrible detent i have ever felt, i sent i back to Brian to get it fixed and got it back the same way and now im getting a full refund from Brian when he get the knife back again :S But the good thing is that Brian is a really nice guy to email and talk to.
chickensodelicious yeah i cant see why he wouldnt have perfect knives, he is one of the big names out there. Anyway the handle was way to thin for my taste so im ok with sending it back.
So.. you mentioned that you don't use your Tycoon any more does that mean we will see it for sale soon? Just curious! Don't think that I am a shark in the waters waiting for some bait.
Jim Skelton no worries, wish I could now. it was more of commentary then anything. but hey hope you get what you want out of it. I am more into your new one so let me know when you hate that one and want to get rid of it. lol
your nuts there if you think it should be a 1500 dollar knife since it is all cnc machined, the actual hands on time is minimal. now if it was all hand done, I would agree with your review.
I agree with most all of your reviews down to the "t". but still all these some what 'mid tecs being passed off as full customs is getting a little ridiculous in my opinion. Still that tighe is one sick looking knife. Keep up the awesome vids though.
+Dylan Hardin A car is machine designed to get you from point A to point B; why do people get body-kits, paint-jobs and customise their car down to the finest point? You're watching at a custom-knife review channel and I think you're missing the point. These high-end custom products separate themselves on the market by their detailed aesthetics and exclusivity.
+Dylan Hardin Why would you feel the need to "remind me" of something that I clearly know well? So you're saying things can't be made nicely just because they have a purpose? I guess the several dozen purely "tool knives" I've posted don't show you that I buy across a diverse selection of styles?
Galiant the Paladin A winky-face or subtle sarcasm would hint that he's joking. There's nothing indicating he's joking while there is clear evidence he's arguing a point of view. Not only that, but he's subtly demeaning the uploader in saying, "sorry," (implying that he's wrong) and "I need to remind you,". Odds are he's a narcissist; certainly not succeeding in the humor department otherwise.
Este hombre tiene bonitas nabajas pero estoy seguro k no tiene ni idea de como se usan sus manitas lo disen. Manitas huebonas con mas dinero del k no nesesita

That is my favorite Brian Tighe knife that i have seen hands down. The Damascus pattern on the blade is breath taking! Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
One of the nicest custom knives I've ever seen also you have a solid and elegant taste, thanks for sharing the video
This thing is out of this world. Simply astonishing.

Yup. That right there is a once in a lifetime / bucket list knife for me. I carry the CRKT version daily and have for years. I can only imagine what the real thing feels like... gratz Jim, enjoy that work of art!
Brian is a true gent, and also the reason I fell in love with knives in general. If it weren't for him, I'd still be hand filing my knives.
I think this may have been my favorite episode from you. This knife is gorgeous! One day I'll have to get one of Brian's knives with that damasteel.
That's the most beautiful know I've ever seen!

Brian Tighe is a metal manipulating alien! Love it!
I like the CRKT version of the Nirk Tighe. It is a really nice knife to use and carry. I have the larger version of the two,

So nice knife.
Now THATS a Purdy knife right there!
Grimsmo is a beast man weather his edges are done on a wicked edge or by hand. But if it makes a difference Eric is hand grinding the blades now.

Knifemaking Tuesdays Week 77 - Grinder Part 4 DONE!
Grimsmo built his own grinder

I need one
Sweet Blade, Bro. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Very nice knife but I can bet you it is flawed. Can you balance it on one finger like my Benchmade 940?
How do you sharpen your knives
They are all so expensive and you Carry and use them so I was wondering how you keep them sharp

Thats just bad luck. Try not to let that deter you from his knives because for the most part, they're perfection.
chickensodelicious yeah i cant see why he wouldnt have perfect knives, he is one of the big names out there. Anyway the handle was way to thin for my taste so im ok with sending it back.
Are you talking about John Grimsmo?
Is that an Enlan clip on it?
This has to be one of the sexiest knives you've shown on your channel.
So.. you mentioned that you don't use your Tycoon any more does that mean we will see it for sale soon? Just curious! Don't think that I am a shark in the waters waiting for some bait.
Everything is for sale for the right price... shoot me a message
Jim Skelton no worries, wish I could now. it was more of commentary then anything. but hey hope you get what you want out of it. I am more into your new one so let me know when you hate that one and want to get rid of it. lol
How can I get one

Beautiful, except for the generic belt clip.
your nuts there if you think it should be a 1500 dollar knife since it is all cnc machined, the actual hands on time is minimal. now if it was all hand done, I would agree with your review.
