I feel bad for her. He is unbelievably lazy and entitled. He wants to teach so he can have summers off? He wants to be a dentist so he can set his own hours? He’s 35 years old, lives at home for free and doesn’t help his parents with yard work? Still working on a bachelors at that age? It seems clear that all of his decisions are around putting in the least amount of effort possible

I agree. And it’s no picnic to be safe n that situation. Summers off means you don’t get paid, unless you take a pay cut to be paid less but receive a check every month. It takes extra planning to be a 9 or 10 month employee.

They are Mormon. Culturally he was very old in getting married. 23-26 years old is average for men. They likely feared he was never going to get married… them saying “that” daughter in law likely meant they really love her or just excited to get one in general.

In Australia, university used to be free for all students - hence why you had people with more degrees than a thermometer. It became user pays just as I started - mind you a 3 year undergrads degree is 1/3 the cost of the USA now. Professional Students were taking the places of younger students until it became impossible to get free education. Once you earn an income your loan is repaid voluntarily or by any tax refunds. I managed to work full time & study at night to get my degrees. My employer was good enough to pay for 90% of the costs too.

Hmmmmmmmmm considering I just completed my 2nd Masters a few years ago I am fully aware of the costs.
