Rabin was fantastic - but don't forget the genius Wieniawski, who not only wrote but played it 150 years ago!! The man was far ahead of his time, and only lived to 45.
He was not ahead of his time, we are behind our own time by a very substantial degree. If you think of the music composed over 100 years ago in the 19th century, and compare it to top hits today, you can see it is more due to our degeneration than how avant garde they were
@@bruhmoment-pn2tz "many great classical composers" such as? Most composers nowadays seem to be unable to compose music that is listenable without being stupid. Then again, the 19th century was full of shallow rubbish, and it is mostly that we discard the bad stuff over time, so MAYBE the "top" of today's composers (who are today neck-deep in their competitors' rubbish) are in fact as meritorious as the famous composers of old.
My former violin teacher, Elizabeth Ivanoff Holborne, studied with Ivan Galamian & knew Michael Rabin. He was among the greatest of all violinists. Unfortunately, as with so many other musicians, drugs were his downfall & what killed him. He fell in his apartment & hit his head on a table. The autopsy revealed that he was under the influence of narcotics, probably Doridan, which was his favorite. I have all of his recordings & have never heard this concerto played any better. Rabin idolized Heifetz, as did Perlman & so many others.
Perfect performance But I'm a little confused, dose anyone knows why orchestral parts are different? Many of them are too longer at the beginning of 1st mov but here solo part starts after a shorter part of tutti !
Some conductor's find the intro to be excessively long and do that improvised cut. Also happens at 7:00. These are choices done by the conductor, not the publisher.
Ray Chen bit off more than he could chew. This concerto is for the cream of the crop. There is an amazing performance of Himari playing this at 11 years old. It is with piano and is on youtube.
@@Mdudapiano I heard live several times Oistrach, Kogan, Szeryng, Francescatti... Unforgettable. They projected more in the concert hall than any violinists nowadays. Oistrach in the recital was unmatched and also, he had two hours of music in his programs, very diversified, playing with great inspiration.
what a pity that his bow stopped at such a young age. it seems me that it is the best i heard. it is so pathetic that both the composer and the player died young. is something wrong with the jewish ADN of musical genius.
In Wieniawski's case, excessive use of alcohol may have been part of the reason. The life of a travelling virtuoso was not easy. I believe that he died in poverty.

Best staccato and trills I've ever heard. Rabin had it all.
Probably the best recording of Wieniawski no.1
listen perlman's performance
Gil Shaham for me… sorry Perlman
My favorite is incredible Gitlis❤️
@@Jawman5070I second Gil Shaham, especially the part at 5:18 in this Rabin video
Perlman or HIMARI for me
He understands the passion and the expression, great!
He possessed the skills to play this concerto! Some guys die young but create big things.
This was the first recording of this concert which I heard and it will always be my favorite one. Such an expressive and impressive performance !
You are right Manfred. It is sheer beauty and the highest level of virtuosity.
Damn if only there were a video showing him perform :( it's incredible how amazing he can play this so difficult concerto...
How the hell is that possible ?
Beautiful by the way
The best fis moll I have ever heard!!!
What an excellent performance!
First Movement: 0:08
Second Movement: 12:09
Last Movement: 15:58
Thank you for sharing this precious information 🙏🏻

What a sound!
It is definitely the best !
Student of Ivan Galamian at Meadowmount. Micheal was incredibly expressive.
I couldn't tell. He only moved 5 times during the entire song
Yes incredibly expressive. He proves his touching expressiveness in the most impressive manner in the Chopin Nocturne 0p. 27 No.2.
Spectacular!
J'adore tant le compositeur que cet excellent violoniste !
Великолепная игра!
Divan koncert i izvrsno odsviran uz odličnu pratnju filharmonijskog orkestra!! Bravooooo
It is not the ' philharmonic' , but it is called the philharmonia orchestra.
Meraviglioso!!! unico al mondo !!😍💖spettacolare!!
Si è veramente unico. La versione di Perlman però è quasi uguale per quanto riguarda quello ultimo livello di virtuosismo e bellezza pura.
Amazing as usual
Wow..❤️
Perfect performance

Why didn't they play the whole intro?
Thank you, I was going to ask the same thing.
No, it's not because of that. They used to cut orchestras parts because back than there wasn't to much recording space on the vinyl.
That would need have been good.
wanna cry
0:41 When the solo starts
So much better than what I heard recently from Ray Chen' vulgar interpretation. What happened to the beautiful golden age tone nowadays ???

Great question, i sometimes wish I were born a century ago ..

The third movement is so rich.
I trust you all have Boris Goldstein play this. Also, I guess Gill Shaham is the best modern version.

Wieniawski's mistake. He composed this piece too difficult for most of the violin students. Starting with 10th . Thus not popular.
jews are such bad guys, even the composers 😀
