    That's an amazing estate and sure it was absolutely breathtaking back in it's glory days.
    Always admire your drone footage and musical pieces with them my brother.

      I didn’t expect the spiral staircase to be so narrow made my head spin had to tie dogs up as I didn’t want them going up they most likely could have the area is so rural would be great living in that tower! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💭 TWF

    Awesome video. I descended from the Riddell family in that area but haven’t been able to find a connection to the wealthier origin branch. My family was apparently known as the “Riddells of Teviotdale” (most notable member being Henry Scott Riddell, poet) and family legend has always been “we were poets and sheep thieves” back in Scotland. Not sure how much is true and how much is exaggerated for a good story but it’s great nonetheless. Again wicked video man, cheers from Hamilton Ontario

    • @XhristinaMacey
      @XhristinaMacey  2 года назад

      Hi x because your ancestors looked after themselves and payed no tax to the crown (why would they) a lot of rubbish to demonise them has been written to justify the awful lowland clearances many centuries ago. Teviotdale is near Hawick a good few miles away, Riddell and Scott are common names in the borders, the history is fascinating, you must come and visit one day give me a shout I’ll show you a few places x

      The Riddells had lived there for over 700 years just looking at the layers of different fireplaces in the walls is fascinating, such a shame a fire took the place in 1943, cheers Graham

(the school im hunting at the moment was only 1970s built) cheers Ian take care

    To ancient Riddell’s fair domain,

    Wonderful adventure. When I heard the growl, I was sure the pups were warning you there was something there! I am sure the gentleman built the tower in order to enjoy the view of his land. How do you think he would respond to the magical views you find for us with your drone? Travel Safe

      I’m sure Lt John Sprot would be astonished at flying cameras and RUclips, the tower is built on an old fort with a dried up mote there’s believed a long lost chapel in the grounds too maybe this is why there are so many magnificent yew trees. eBay has a gold seal that belonged to Lt Sprot

    I was in Scotland last year. A local guide took me to Bowden Kirk, close to Melrose. Which has a crypt underneath for Kerrs, as well as stained glass that features names. One name is Sir Thomas Riddell Carre (formerly Ker). He was a famous orator/storyteller of history back in 1800s. Might be a connection?

    I did some digging around and found information that indicates there was a structure here (and lands) going by the name Riddell or Ryedale dating to the 9th century. riddellestate.co.uk/history/
    If the writing on the stone at 4:52 is Latin, it's something like "forgive your son." If French, "because he likes (pleases) me"? (google translate)

    Hello my last name is Riddell I was wondering if anyone could to me about the history of the Riddell clan

    • @XhristinaMacey
      @XhristinaMacey  5 лет назад +2

      Sir Walter Scott wrote about the estate it belonged to the Riddell family for over 700 years until sold to the Sprot family around 1870 the tower was built in 1885 also big alterations to the main house took place around that time frame. It’s truly a walk back in time the main house burned down around 1940 when the MOD were in care of the home. yes I noticed this also, its a shame the estate was sold in victorian times out go the Riddell family didnt last much longer and it stood for over 700 years with the Riddells
