    Although I have been to the UK many times, I never knew about Abbotsford. And I love historical places and pretty English and Scottish gardens. Thanks for the lovely tour🇺🇸

      @@DavidWheaterScotland Thanks for replying. You know, I am 65 and live in USA. My traveling days are over, unless it is armchair travel! You seem to have a good knack of locating really lovely places to visit. I just watched your video of Linlithgow too. I will keep an eye out for your videos as they are very enjoyable!

    Another excellent presentation thoroughly enjoyed. Melrose is a regular destination for my wife and me, but we've never been to Abbotsford. You've created an incentive for us to rectify that omission!

      Thanks Leon, much appreciated and I'm really glad I've inspired you to visit. We really enjoyed our lunch there and the river walks just completed a wonderful day. Hope you can visit soon. Warmest best wishes, David :-)

      Hi Julie, hope you're well and have had a good week. I'm so pleased you found this video relaxing and soothing. It's a truly gorgeous place and you're right about the gardens and the river walks, they really are stunning beautiful. I hope you can visit one day soon. It's also very worthwhile taking in Melrose too, which is a goregous wee Borders town. Take care and thanks again for all your kind words and encouragement. Warmest best wishes, David

    Another great ind informative video, and a beautiful female voice again

    • @DavidWheaterScotland
      @DavidWheaterScotland  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Ian, much appreciated and glad you like the singer. She does have a wonderful melodic voice. My favourite singer is Karen Matheson of Capercaille fame. Some of her Gaelic songs are just breathtakingly beautiful. I'd love to use some of her songs, but sadly I could never afford the licence fee. I'd love to use more traditional gaelic folk singers in my work and I'll try and see over the next couple of weeks if I can find a way of using more local talent. Hope you're having a good week and many thanks for your support. Best wishes, David :-)

    What a wonderful video! It reminds me and my wife of our visit to Edinburgh in 2017. I am South Korean. It is a pity that we missed this place because we didn't know about Abbotsford House at that time. I really enjoyed this video in particular during this pandemic home-stay period. Wish you well. Thanks a lot.

      Hi Robert, so glad you liked the film. It's one of my favourite places in the Borders and I hope, when restrictions lift, that you get the chance to come back and visit. It's been really hard to film any content just now, as we're being asked to stay local, but hopefully when things improve I can get back on track. Thank again for your kindness. All the best, David :-)

    Great video David. As much as we can't travel to the UK and doesn't look like it will be anytime soon. We do enjoying seeing these places. Never new how much there is to see around Edinburgh. Thank you for taking us on your journeys we look forward to watching them each week. All the best from us her in Oz keep well. Keep them coming regards Phil

      Hi Phil, hope you're well and have had a good week. I'm so glad you're enjoying all my adventures. I'm really only scratching the surface of all the things to do in and around Edinburgh. Compared to Australia, Scotland really is tiny, but it still takes a lifetime to explore properly. My Adventures in Scotland project I hope to run for the rest of my days, so hopefully I can pack in a lot more from all around the country. I'm very fortunate to have spent quite a bit of time over the years in Sydney and Mittagong NSW. Australia really does have a very special place in my heart with lots of fond memories. Thanks again for all your support. Warmest best wishes, David :-)

    Such a cool video, David. Enjoyed every second. I was unaware of the parallels between Scott's and Mark Twain's lives. Twain, too, went bust largely as a result of bad investments in a new type-setting machine that never worked out. He declared bankruptcy, but paid off all his debts by means of a frantic, years-long worldwide speaking tour.

    • @DavidWheaterScotland
      @DavidWheaterScotland  4 года назад +2

      Thanks so much, you've really given me a lift today :-) How fascinating that Mark Twain went through something so similar. I must confess I never knew this. Although Sir Walter was incredibly lucky to be able to build and live in such a wonderful place, he really paid a heavy price towards the end of his life to try and keep it all. I do admire his determination to pay his own way out of things, but perhaps he might have a lived a little longer and written more if he'd accepted a little help. Hope you're having a great week and many thanks for your kind words & support. It's always greatly appreciated. Best wishes, David

    Fantastic video, I learned so much and what beautiful grounds. The Borders are part of my trip next year so this video is quite helpful to my planning list. Enjoyed seeing the older pics of the rooms vs today’s current condition. I can see why Sir Walter Scott loved the area - it reminds me of the green rolling hills of Vermont USA. So pretty.

      Hi Inga, hope you're well and I'm really glad you liked the video. That's brilliant that you're going to be discovering The Borders. It's such a beautiful part of the country and so often overlooked by visitors. I'm glad you liked the old photos. They're from my vintage collection and I thought it'd be fun to compare the rooms. Hope you have a great weekend and thanks again for all your kind words and support. Best wishes, David :-)

    Well done David! Very impressive professionally produced video, full of Scott related detailed information. We visited recently but did not go into the big house. This video showed us what we had missed out on! lol. Love the fact that you offer a commentary too. This video is a credit to you! Best wishes from Belfast Northern Ireland.

      Hi Tom, can't thank you enough for your very kind words. They mean a lot, as there were several points over the last 18 months when I thought I might not continue - so a huge thank you. Fortunately, there's a lot more hope and optimism in the air which has reinvigorated me and I'm busy with new films which I hope you'll enjoy too. So glad you had the chance to visit Abbotsford. It's a fascinating and beautiful place. Hope you have a lovely weekend and thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Warmest best wishes, David :-)

      Oh wow, that’s interesting. Have you thought about tracing your ancestry? It’d be fascinating to find out if it’s true. I really love Abbotsford, it’s an extraordinary place and the location on the river is just beautiful. Many thanks for commenting & subscribing. It’s much appreciated. My next video is in about a week and then a formal one on the 1st Oct. All the best, David

    Nice video - but you neglected to mention another historical fact about him and his writing. His book"Guy Mannering" gave a very spunky and adorable and loving dog, THE Dandie Dinmont Terrier, it's name!!!! I was there when we had quite a few running loose on the banks. It was definitely a sight - and there have been Dandies living there for quite some time.
