in the case of the legacy, the bottle itself costs, $1000.-- the Exclusiveness? lets say that's another $1000 - $1500 (can you really put a price on exclusivity?). But when this drink was being promoted, connoisseurs from all over the world were brought in and offered an ounce... they've all said the same thing "the best rum ever made"

FaddaWolf i believe it's more of a psychology play that governs the persona of a liquor in question. Had you falsely acclaimed any other liquor, maintaining an exclusive ambience while serving the connoisseurs, i assure you that the response 'the best that i've tasted' would still be the same.
I understand what you're saying. but these guys kinda do this for a living right? So I think the nuance would probably wear off by now. But that's just my opinion. However, with regards to the Angrostura Legacy, the bottle and exclusivity alone shouldn't make it THAT expensive. So they had to do something right to receive stark reviews and have bottles go for more than double the asking price.. right?

my dad has a bottle of 1811 chateau D'yquem that's been passed down to him . when we turn 21 we are allowed to drink one glass from it as part of the honor in our family tradition. it taste incredible , the closest i can come to describing it is it's like honey mixed with caramel and a very subtle splash of vanilla. it truly is a refined drink .
If I buy any of these, they better pour themselves into my glass.
Some of them might come with a personal butler for the experience!

Tequila can only be produce on a certain part of the mexican territoy, the companies con only say it's tequila if the agave azul (from where the tequila comes from) is grown in this area, if it is grown outside, it's calles mezcal. So, it's not that secret the location.

I once had a glass (exactly 1 oz) of LOUIS XIII Cognac for $125. I was told the entire bottle was close to $4k. It is a production when you buy a glass. The roll out the bottle on a cart and pour it at your table, pour it to the top of the shot glass so that there is not a question of authenticity. Taste? Ehh... I can take it or leave it. But that pales in comparison to the prices listed here. Jeesh!

A study involving quite a few very skilled wine tasters trying blind tasting cheap and expencive wines achieved a result that was pretty close to guesswork on which was which. And that was people who do tasting for a living.
But to know that what you are drinking is exclusive and unique DO add an extra layer of pleasure to the experience, in and off itself. That has also been studyed at length.
So expencive wine will always taste better to someone whom knows to apriciate it, but less so to someone who don't care. (But as a study of markeding shows, slap the lable 'limited edition' on ANYTHING, and pretty much every single human beeing will compeat to buy it, soooo.... lol

that's interesting, because I have seen several master Soms easily distinguishing between cheap and expensive bottles. It is pretty easy to taste the difference between a 15 and 150 dollar bottle. But its probably harder to determine the difference between a 150 and 350 or 550 dollar bottle. Certain things can't be achieved with cheaper grapes from areas with worse soil and less time ageing. The difference between whiskey is even bigger. cheap whiskey is pretty obvious when it hasn't been aged for very long.

I mean it takes very little to find conflicting evidence.
For these experiments, I would like to see their methodology, their parameters, and who they were testing. If you can link them Id really appreciate it. I have yet to find a similar experiment that the methodology was transparent and their experts have any name recognition.

I feel it’s less of a quality of taste aspect(although I’m sure they all taste amazing), and more of the experience of having the ability to purchase these exclusive liqueurs. I’m sure the feeling of drinking a glass of liquid worth more than some houses is incredible. I am a HUGE fan of high quality tequila, but I would need billions to warrant buying a bottle of the number one on this list. But I reeeaaalllyy want to try it:)

If you are used to fine dining, and have the money for it, you must do it. I personally don't care about food but my boyfriend who just passed away had a very high expectation of what he ate and the drinks. He never asked how much the drinks were, he got the top shelf of anything recommended by the staff... I used to ask him why he spends so much money on 1 meal and his answer was , I like enjoying my life and want to try all the best food and alcohol in the world and he DID! unfortunately trying taking his employees to show them what a great steak should taste like was the last night he was alive and he passed out in the restaurant and left this world doing what he loved the most. I miss him but I get it now
One of my memorable nights with him was a $2000 per person dining done is Beverly Hills CA. Don't remember the name of the hotel it was held at for 3 nights only and by end of our truffle dinner, our bill was almost 9K just for 2 of us. and might I add, I am sober so I was not drinking, but he sure did! he tried every drink they had to offer and he was extremely happy with the food and never talked about the 9k he spent cause that was NOT why he went there. You can't count penny's when you live a certain lifestyle :) I miss you Luc
