I saw this same version Portia, end of show with Darrell Jones on bass in Portland at Starry Night, small room really. Audience close like this - Just like this. Changed my life forever. No words. Been looking for this w Darrell long time.
@@petebosheff8819 I don't think I walked out of a Miles concert the same. It was always an amazing experience. By the way I don't think Darryl played with Miles after 1987 besides the Paris 1991 reunion concert.
@@ErikBruchez I will double check dates when I saw Miles in Portland OR - Daryl Jones was bass man for both concerts at the StarryNight club. it was mid-80s for sure. Cheers and best to you.
Here's the double check from friends I was with for Miles shows - Both Starry Night - May 1st 1990 Bass: - Benny Rietveld & Lead Bass: Foley...Sept 6 1987 Bass: Daryl Jones & Lead Bass: Foley. Also Miles performed at the Schnitzer in 1985.
@@petebosheff8819 Yes that's consistent with Miles's lineup those years. Darryl played with Miles in the summer tours of 1985 and 1987. Benny Rietveld in 1988 and 1989. I don't know if Benny played with Miles in early 1990, but latter in 1990 he was replaced by Richard Patterson.

I remember being 17 years old, watching VH1 late, and hearing this for the first time via the 'Tutu - Medley' video where this was the last part of the medley. Completely enchanted and blown away as the chords and vibe were so otherworldly and ethereal. At 17 I felt beyond sophisticated listening to this, as it transported me to a lovely and sublime adult place that is too perfect for reality. That same feeling washes over me when I listen to this today at age 53. Magic.
.....Incredible! The soundtrack to epic events. Like the birth of a child, or a planet! Miles probably has on a 10,000$ outfit and the bassist has on a wife-beater. Long as you can jam!!
It makes me very emotional I did see this band several times and portia was the epitaph. Miles has been a reference on my life . I reccomend to listen Agharta and Pangaea two sets in Osaka back in the 70's just before he disappeared
Some minutes are missing... the keyboard solo and loop at the end has been cut off here. The “official” end was with no more musician standing on stage with the keyboard loop running, leaving people with an empty stage, but filled with music still. Love this version of Portia, brings back so many beautiful memories and special moments
I listen to Portia an tutu at least 3 to 4 times a day the keyboard is like the sound it’s like 20 stories that theatrical Sound Miles his horn Melody over a melody harmonizing with each individual instrument this man was sensational and he made his musicians sensational I am going to learn how to play a win instrument because of him

Kenny Garrett - Saxophone Darryl Jones- Bass Joseph “Foley” McCreary, Jr. - Bass with Piccolo Strings I do not know the names of the other Great Musicians
I never liked Foley... Most say he was a bassist, but with Miles, he wasn't... Just a replacement for John Scofield after he left. Foley never held the bass spot... Michael Henderson, Marcus Miller, Felton Crews, Darryl Jones, Angus Thomas, Benny Reitveld, Richard Patterson, NOT FOLEY!!!
Miles was no longer capable of real performances at this stage. His heart and blood pressure were so messed up he needed carrying on and off the stage. What he was still able to bring us was amazing assemblages of amazing musicians
I agree! Did anyone else ever have a clue about what was going on with his mental faculty? Great Sound! Unfortunately Tragic and Sad, though! Is that the price of fame?

Man, I feel this song goes deep to my soul. Thank you for posting this. 🙏
Sometimes we have to thank RUclips, so good to be able to watch his Excellency Miles Davis with one of the best of long list of great sound
Portia has a flamenco soul I imagine Camaron de la isla singing along with Miles melancholic and unique touch
Más que a flamenco, me recuerda a rock andaluz. Suena mucho a Triana y Alameda.
