Loved all suggestions. On another note I will add what you should wear coming from an infectious disease medical background.
Closed toed shoes with sock, nylons. Airplane seats are given a quick vacuum and not routinely cleaned.
Long pants. No shorts or short dresses. You do not know what sat in that seat before you. (Ie dirty diapers, urinary incontinence, menstrual accidents, gastrointestinal upsets. etc etc)
Stay out of the back seat pocket. Do not put anything in or take out ie magazines. ( this area is usually filled with dirty diapers and used napkins removed by attendants after each flight.
Bring your own shawl or blanket to cover self and back of your seat (head lice)
Wear a clean outfit on your return flight.
Not here to scare anyone, just sharing educational information that we usually don’t think about. Be safe in your travels.

Just came back from a European trip and this is what worked for me: compression socks, tennies, linen trousers by Athleta, performance wool t-shirt, cotton sweater ( it was cool In Amsterdam that week) and performance-wear wool panties. All were so breathable and moisture wicking, which as a 62-yr-old is necessary for me. And for the first time ever, I didn’t have any coffee that day or on the flight and no alcohol because they are so dehydrating. I drank a lot of water! Flights were 13 hrs total and I felt great afterwards ( no bathroom issues either!).

When traveling, you should consider what could happen in the unlikely event of an emergency. Shoes, such as sneakers, that will stay on your feet. You’ll run faster, and they will protect your feet in the event of broken glass or other items on the ground. Clothing should be cotton. Many blends will stick to your skin in the event of fire. I realize that a catastrophic event is rare, but I heard a NTSB investigator make this suggestion so I follow them when I fly.

For ladies with long hair. Loose hair will matt badly after several hours between the seat and your back. Tie it up, but avoid making a knot or pony at the back. Unless it fits exactly into the nape of your neck it will poke your head forward and make your head loll to one side or the other. A neck tension migraine is not what you want! Most people do not understand how toxic fragrances are. Back in the 80's, I really struggled with perfumes that people close to me at work started wearing, and these fragrances made me sick. I had to have my desk moved. I started to do some research and what I found out was that any product that has the word "fragrance" in it means that there are a ton of chemicals in the product. I also found out that chemists discovered that if you put "phalates (sp?) into perfumes, it makes it last longer. The problem with that is that "phalates" are neurotoxins which are really bad for humans. Also, the fragrance industry is not covered, protected, or regulated by our government. I think they need to make fragrances and/or perfumes against the law in any confined places like work or an airplane.

I love wearing a shapely, but comfy, cotton-knit midi dress when I travel, and slip-on woven leather sneakers. I carry a pair of knee-high socks and a cotton-knit blazer for if I get cold. My accessories are just a silk neck-scarf and some simple stud earrings that won’t bother me when I nap or get snagged. I’m not comfortable in trousers and don’t want to wear a short skirt that I have to pull down or worry about. Also, a maxi dress could drag on the restroom floor, the last thing I want. Usually I wear navy, but taupe or also white work fine. I’ve never had a clothing spill or spot on a plane, but I’ve never been in bad turbulence, either, except once when crossing the Cascades in a little 9-seater plane.

I wear a loose fitting cotton dress at calf length, looser cotton bras , socks with my sandals for 6 hours or more flight, Because, I tend to swell up during long flight due to cabin air compression.
I have been doing this kind of dressing for my longer flights in the past 20 years with no problem .

Nice tips! My shoes must allow for socks and be very easy slip-on's because they will make you take them off and I want to be able to get them back on fast. I do not want bare foot on airport floors which is why I have to have socks. The other thing is I carry a laptop and it must be able to come out of the bag quickly so it can go thru security without holding up the line. TFS

I once stood in a security line behind a woman who was wearing nothing but a skin tight white bodysuit. While fully covered, nothing was left to the imagination. Airport people watching is second to none. Wearing colored tights with a shirt that doesn’t cover your bum is also a look others cannot unsee. 😂

I take short footie socks to slip on over mine to walk on public floors, then slip them in a baggie to save for return flight.
Men's cologne smells stronger than women's. I carry a respirator mask that I put on as soon as I sit in my seat. I tell the people beside me and stewards ", this is for allergies.i am allergic to all this cologne". They relax and I breathe like a dream until plane lands.i also never take Ny food or drink from anyone. Airline personnel dont wash their hands between giving drinks and gathering used cups/trash. Think about that.
