    😍😍😍Holbein is by far my favorite one And also in my tippity-top favorite paints of all time. My latest tube I bought of Marine Blue (Holbein) it is now labeled as a mix of Pb16 & PG7. But it looks exactly the same as my tube of marine blue labeled just PB16.

    I love Phthlao Turquoise. I think it is my favorite color. I have at least Holbein and Davinci. I have DS ultramarine turquoise too. I haven't decided which is my favorite yet, but I love them. I will have to keep testing them. Thanks for the fun video!

    I was able to snag a tube of the Holbein that was the single pigment PB 16 after I saw the news on Jay's channel. It was such a beautiful version. You might still be able to find old tubes that are pure PB 16. I do love DaVinci but I must say in this and another comparison, this one doesn't stand up great to other brands.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      NIIIIIICE!! i'm glad you were able to get it! it's definitely my first love and i couldn't live without it in my palette. i think my local shop still has some of holbein's single pigment version as it's a small shop and doesn't get high traffic. but given that i already have this 15ml tube, i'm probably just going to try out other brands when i finish ones i have. a loooong time from now though ;P

    I like your comparisons. I would have liked to see Daniel Smith's Phthalo Blue Turquoise (It is their PB16 color) added to the comparison, especially when you talk about the amount of pigment being able to reach a nearly black level of saturation.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      thank you Eileen :) yes, PB16 being able to get to that black level of saturation is quite important to me. unfortunately i don't have Daniel Smith's PB16. sorry. but thank you for watching and commenting 🥰

    Regarding the Holbein’s Phthalo Turquoise, head over to Jay’s channel and check his PB16 video; there is a discussion about the greeness of Hobein’s in the comments. Holbein has changed the formula recently to be PB16 + PG7. It might be that it has always been like that and it’s only now that they are changing the label.

    The color looked so pretty that I looked up the pigment number in the brand I usually use (DS), and I already have it. It's a phthalo blue green shade.

      hi christine :) thank you so much for your kind words 🥰 please note, it’s not the same as phthalo blue green shade PB15:3. The ones shown in this video are PB16. The DS equivalent is called Phthalo blue turquoise.

      schmincke?! lowtinting! 🤯 that’s so sad! i wouldn’t have expected that from schmincke. thank you for letting us know, that’s very helpful! ohh im glad to know DS is similar to W&N. i think i saw on jane blundell’s blog Maimeri blu with PB15:4 that looks so similar to PB16. might be one to try for the future 😁👍🏻

      @@PaintinHiding maybe I should have said “lighter” and softer… not exactly LOW tinting, but lower tinting. It’s not as deep and strong as the DS, WN, and Holbein. But it definitely doesn’t feel cheap or bad, it’s very very nice and smooth.

    I just recently fall in love with PB16 thanks to Roman Szmal - I just compared it to Lukas and they’re very similar, Aquarius may be just a tad more tinting, I should try with WN Aqua green too, but I don’t think it goes as black as original Holbein

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  Год назад +1

      yeah, i recently got RS's PB16 and it's not quite as pigmented as holbein or w&n. aqua green is more green than PB16 and it does get pretty black.

  • @magentaindigoart

    such nice paints ^_^ really love how the Holbein looks here, sooo deep. I have been using the W&N version, and also mixes of pthalo blue and green from White Nights and Rembrandt, which also work fine. (I'm not sure Ocean Blue from Roman Szmal counts as a similar hue as well XD) I also tend to use these instead of pthalo blue, as a primary. It makes nice and clean mixes!

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  2 года назад +1

      W&N would definitely be my second choice from this batch. i like how it could go really dark. i'll need to look into ocean blue, i've heard of it but haven't paid much attention. and yesss i love that you've mixed your own version. PB16 can get quite expensive and i've definitely considered maybe mixing my own in the future with PB15 and PG7.

    Do you have Winsor and Newton’s Aqua Green? It is also a Phthalo turquoise hue but a bit more green. The pigment is not listed on the Colour Index so it has not pigment number, but it is a phthalo pigment.

    One of my absolute favorite colors, I have W&N of this and it's just such a lovely shade and so transparent and pretty. Also mixes very well for purples and greens. Daniel Smith has a pthalo turquoise but it's actually a completely different color, a mix of PB15 and PG36 instead of just PB16 and while it is also pretty, it's much more green and not even in the same category of these. It's similar to W&N Aqua Green which is made from an un-numbered pigment and unique to that brand.
    DS also makes a color called pthalo blue turquoise from PB16 which is one of their newer colors and doesn't seem to be very popular, the shade is similar to these but doesn't seem as saturated in the masstone. This video has a comparison ruclips.net/video/Kz7L2Z8GK7c/видео.html

      oh wow! here i thought PB16 isn't all that common but i'm so glad i'm discovering lots of people love it too! :D ahh yes, i think it for the longest time i remember DS not offering PB16 and a few weeks ago i checked and they apparently added it to their collection. i just wasn't aware lol. i wonder if DS PB16 isn't very popular just because DS lovers had been using the brand for a long time and managed without it maybe? anyway, thank you for the link here as well as below from Oto, i've seen oto's but i can always watch them again hehe ;P

    • @petiteflower5259
      @petiteflower5259 2 года назад

      Yeah I think DS was probably late in the game for this pigment and their version is really kind of underwhelming. Most of the people I'm aware of who catalog and review watercolors don't even acknowledge it, including Oto, Jane Blundell, and Kim Crick.
