I just bought DS Quin Burnt Scarlet as I had wanted it for a long time. Swatching I had buyers remorse a little, thinking what could I use this for? But this morning mixed it with indanthrone blue and my oh my got the most beautiful purple earth tone. I'm thinking of buying a 2nd stick now while they are still available. It's also the perfect out of the tube colour for red furred animals.

Yes, I am in the united states and I've been wanting to try rembrant's quinacridone orange for a while, but its hard to find, the only place I can get it is from blick online, and it costs the same amount for the 10mL rembrant tube as it would to buy the same color in Daniel Smith 15mL tube. So it is hard to justify buying rembrandt in the united states. The same price or more than daniel smith, smaller tubes, and way harder to find.

Meh.. buy 6 daniel smith tubes instead of the same amount of $$ and you'll be much happier at the end of the day.. learn to mix those 6 watercolors and the quality will drive your success!

Granulating colors named after birds?? Count me in!

I’ve just received the fuumuui (golden maple) travel brushes consisting of 8 & 4 round and 8 flat and 8 dagger. The brush quality seems quite good but the labelling on the outside of the handle is a little dodgy. Every brush was inside the incorrect handle which wasn’t a big deal but they have labeled the #4 round as a #4 liner but the dagger fits into it and the #4 round only fits into the tube handle labeled #4 liner 😂. I guess I’ll just have to get used to these labelling errors.

Daniel smith tends to really fade ĥ tho. I bought a few cuz of the hype and granulation. But Newton pro paints stay looking good eve after drying.

I was like meh, I don’t like pouches for travel kit UNTIL the hoops and the shoulder strap came out! This also looks like an awesome pouch for travel purposes - art supplies or not :P I’ve been using and really loving my etchr field case. I love that the material is really thick and the supplies fit really securely. But it’s also the same properties that makes it rather heavy, and I can’t fit too much extras in there or it will be a really tight fit. I can only fit a small sketchbook in there too.

I bought a Shinhan Green. I regret the purchase because i am sure the pigment choosen is just naturally deep and in the tube is diluted or the pigment info doesnt match reality.

I was just researching this right now. W&N calls their pr101 'Burnt Sienna' instead of 'transparent red oxide'.

My Maimeri Blu Turquoise Green is PG16 and matches my Winser and Newton Phthalo Turquoise quite well. So yes, Maimeri Blu does sell a PB16.

1:10 Daniel Smith Indian Red is definitely maroon (cooler) relative to every other brands I've compared it with. Visually, it's almost indistinguishable from their Lunar Red Rock and Napthamide Maroon colors. However, it does produce warmer mixes than either of those, in my experience.

How do they hold up quality wise compared to Rosemary brushes?

Goat hair usually doesn’t snap back, just like squirrel (especially the cheaper ones). There are sables that have naturally black or white fur. But I don't think I've ever seen either here in Japan, maybe because there's a restriction on sables here. As you said, there's also a possibility that the colors of the fur were changed. Dyeing brush is actually quite common in China, especially with the ones they claim to be 純紫 (purple) rabbit hair. Rabbit hair are expensive because of the amount of rabbits to make 1 brush are a lot. The cheap ones are all fake, black dyed sable or goat hair. The brushes that are dyed do tend to be harder than the non dyed hair. I had one fake rabbit brush that I bought before I did the research and was surprised to see the black faded gradually every time I used the brush and when the dye wore off after only several uses, it was so floppy and became one of the worst brush I've ever used in my life to the point that I threw it away to the garbage, even though I don't do that to animal hair brushes.

Hairs could be bleached but a dye ? absolutely no way. Those are not Sables for sure, but if they're good enough and well priced, then they might worth a try 👍

Being curious, your thumbnail certainly made me wonder!!! 😄 Sable? 🤔Given your initial thoughts on the hair (Squirrel, goats' hair, and a mix if these two) your wide knowledge of brushes, and that I'd rather trust someone with that breadth of knowledge than a manufacturer, I can't imagine that these brushes are sable! I was also curious that your contact referred you to the website, when s/he could have given you a direct reply! However ... you've used them for several weeks, and your conclusion is that you like them, so on the pricing level, the hair becomes irrelevant, I think. You've been in my mind a lot lately, and it came out in a very funny way the other day, in the form of a little doodle for my sketchbook challenge. 😄 If you'd like to see it, let me know if it's ok, and I'll resize and send it to you. It's a line drawing, so it's photographed well. 🤗
