    I’m so sorry to hear that you don’t feel emotionally safe to practice your art in front of your family, hopefully one day soon you’ll be completely independent and have your own place to do whatever you want! For context, I had tiger parents growing up who wouldn’t let me do anything but study for school, so I cultivated lots of creative hobbies later when I became more independent. Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability about this. ❤

      well... i do consider myself independent as i'm the one paying the bills and taking care of my parents. but with their chronic illnesses... i can't afford to rent/buy my own place because that means i would need to pay someone to take care of them as well as pay additional rent. i dont have that kind of money 😅 i'm glad you were able to break free :D live that life! live for me too~ ;P

    I just want to add that I think you are so brave. Some people could be in a really bad situation like this or worse and not try to allow themselves to have some enjoyment even if it is in hiding you should be really proud of yourself and I want you to know that I’ve always thought I was really lucky and privilege to have what I have and be able to do what I do, but after listening to your story, I realise just how privileged and how very lucky I am, I pray that one day you get to have the same open supportive enjoyment out of hiding, you will be in my thoughts and prayers

    I'm really moved by your story. I hope you will be able to share your passion for art with your parents. I'm really impressed that despite this tough situation (having to hide, the illness of your parents..) you keep on painting. I think that you should really continue, especially if it is a therapy for you.

    Hiiii! *the end*
    How come i missed sending my questions?! That's probably how crazy the days had been.haha. firstly, your channel is very informative and pleasant at the same time, and I'm glad you're continuing to be passionate in the field despite the "hiding". You certainly deserve to be heard and "seen" by more because not a lot of artists are as dedicated and effective as you. I hope more people support you but ultimately I hope the time comes when you would no longer be Paint in "Hiding". I could relate to many scenarios you e mentioned as here in my place, fine arts is also regarded by many as a "not so stable" profession. I hear that a lot. And it's also one of the reasons why i chose to take up architecture in college instead of fine arts, thinking that they're related, but being an architect, gives the "edge" by title in society. But what am I now? A full time fine artist/content creator. 😂 i still am an architect but i have chosen to be more of an artist as it is where i am happier and as you've said, this is one of the best therapies. The arts and this channel have saved me many times, and so I can relate to when you said about arts as therapy.
    And yes, well noted, drink lots of water. As someone who comes from a family with renal problems, i know by heart how important your reminder is. So thank you for that. Just make sure not to mistakenly drink your watercolor water. 😅

    Your channel is great and I really feel your situation. Certain things that are harmless and a way to express yourself are regarded as negative in many "stricter" cultures. It's wonderful that you're able to still do what you love, even if you have to hide! If one day your parents would accept it, it would be great, but sometimes, life is just not easy, I do feel your sadness that you want your mom to be proud of you, everyone would.You're a great source of information on watercolours on youtube and I love your videos :) You have a very cute style and you definitely improved with your drawings! Thank you for sharing your story. I had parents who encouraged me to go into teaching instead of art as I was growing up. I am retired from teaching now and putting my time into my art. I did teach my students art and my own children. I encouraged my own children to go with their passion. And both are artists with another job to support their passion. As long as you love your art no one can take that love away from you. Keep on painting and thank you for sharing your love of art with us. 💖✨🙏🖌️🎨

      My Mom also lead me to complete teacher training (I have an MA in EngLit), and I taught adults general and business English for some years, but eventually jumped ship and started doing administrative work. I am an office manager now, but never stopped making art. I actually never wanted to teach, I just really dislike doing it, at least when it comes to English. You are amazing for encouraging your children to follow their passion, that is really the best that parents can do for their kids. :)

    currently just begun retraining to one day become an arts psychotherapist ( it will be a long road!) and although it is a human need that is often overlooked, having some sort of creative outlet (even one that we might not acknowledge as such) is fundamental to psychological well-being and helps communicate and understand one’s inner world and inner states when words fail us - there are whole fields of psychotherapy dedicated to exactly this research! Rest assured that what you are doing is very important work! I am so sorry that you are not able to share your passion with your loved ones but so glad you are keeping this up and that you are so aware of how useful it is to your well-being. Has it actually been 4 years?! Time is a weird soup, that's all I have to say. Well no, I have so much to say but most importantly want you to know I understand the emotional and psychological benefit of your painting and this channel. Up until 10 years ago I was a geeky-tech person, had my own little business, until severe chronic illness left me disabled (I am slowly recovering now, finally). But that's how I came to paint! All my life I figured artists were 'those other kinds of people' and wished and dreamed I could be like them. Then I suddenly had plenty of time (though not the energy lol) to watch and learn and start playing with art supplies, and it felt so natural. It saved my mental health in a very dark hopeless time, saved my life, and brought so much joy. I'm just starting to recover and be able to do more, still have plenty of limitations but I'm excited for the future because I've got something of my own that can't be lost or taken away, even if I'm stuck in bed or on the couch. It's a part of me now. So I understand and am so glad you're prioritizing these things, for your own mental and physical wellbeing (because they are intertwined, trust me on that). I can't imagine what it feels like not being able to share your creations and experiences with your family but I'm so glad you're carving this time out for yourself. What an inspiration Vee. xoxo

    • @IridescentJen
      @IridescentJen 9 месяцев назад

      So I commented before I had even watched the whole video. Now listening around @32:00 and how stressful it can be to Paint in Hiding, to RUclips in HIding, to Receive Packages in Hiding. I'm so sorry Vee. Not pity, but I have compassion. And also really glad you're sharing your reality with us. I'm 53 (? i think? time is still weird) and only in the past few years was able to completely be myself and speak truth to my parents. Again, my own health journey stripped some of that away, I got VERY clear on priorities and what's truly important.. But I'm lucky to still have my parents at this age and to have even gotten the opportunity. It's hard to hide your true self and what's really important to you from your own family. xoxo

      @@IridescentJen i’ve never really been sure why people so “i dont want pity”. i think i just dont quite understand the difference between pity and compassion. all in all, i understand you only have good feelings towards me and that’s all that matters 🥰 thank you so much jen! hugggssss to you and your situation too!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

    • @IridescentJen
      @IridescentJen 9 месяцев назад

      @@PaintinHidingfor me pity would be "oh you poor helpless thing," it just feels hopeless, powerless and emphasizes the misery. Whereas compassion might be like "i'm so sorry you're going through this, I see that it must be really hard. What do you need? How can i support you?". For me there are two paths: one feels icky and the other feels respectful and self-empowering. Acknowledging this is an absolutely horrible situation but not being a victim. It just feels different. It was important for me to shift mindset gears in order to start recovery... treating myself with compassion instead of pity. And thanks for coming to my TED talk! 😍🤣

    In the video you said, that you probably should work more instead of doing art. In my opinion, selfcare has at least the same importance as work. Because you can’t work, if you are overwhelmed by everything you have to do. Mental health is so important.

    Did you make a video listing the Jackson’s sales dates by month? I feel like you did but I can’t seem to find it. I’m thinking about getting a couple of brushes, but thought I’d wait if there was a sale coming up. If you remember which video it is- let me know, please!
    Ps- I was in the same boat as you with my family not supporting my art. Along the way teachers, friends, and even other parents encouraged me. That helped- and I kept at it. Pretty much all of my choices are not what they would’ve wanted, but I kept on (I’m a professional at disappointing them😏). I think it took until somewhere deep in my 30s before I began to sense some respect for me and my life. It’s a shaky respect but it’s some respect. So just keep painting how ever you can. I wonder if your parents knew that you had over 5000 followers who absolutely adore you and your channel and find it not only helpful but comforting to have you there if they would actually be proud. I hope one day you get to move out into your own place, and you could happily do your art and display it in a public way.
    Please don’t ever think about leaving RUclips. I think from the way you talk and the kind of personality you have you’re already doing everything within your power to help your pro parents and let’s be honest it’s not all new. They also need to be able to look after themselves by a certain point, and they should be Others around to help as well it shouldn’t be all your responsibility. And Art is one of the best forms of therapy so really by doing therapy and keeping your mental health as well as you possibly can. That intern is allowing you to be able to work and help your parents without it like you said you’d possibly have a mental breakdown and then How capable would you be of working and looking after them?

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  9 месяцев назад

      great question jess. knowing them, they would definitely feel an initial emotion of "wow, people actually follow you for your art? that's cool, i'm proud of you my child!" but if you see how many hours i put into planning, painting, filming, editing these videos... compared to how much money i earn from youtube, it's below average wage. which they will eventually condemn me for 'wasting time on something that doesn't provide substantial income'.
      moving out into my own place... i just answered this on someone else's comment but i shall reiterate here. i do consider myself independent as i'm the one paying the bills and taking care of my parents. but with their chronic illnesses... i can't afford to rent/buy my own place because that means i would need to pay someone to take care of them as well as pay additional rent for the separate place. i dont have that kind of money 😅
      thank you for your kind words jess. i dont have plans of quitting youtube anytime soon. i'll always be doing art but not gonna lie, the editing videos part can be time consuming.

However, in Australia we have a thing for older people that the government gives them which is an aged pensionand there’s also aged care which means that the government pays for some services for people to have help come in not a lot but at least it’s something I’m guessing that something you don’t have in your country.?

      @@jessbutterfly1934 in theory, we do have something like that. but in practice, it's not an option. like how mcdonalds has the soft serve icecream on the menu but the machine is always out of order. here, there are elderly care programs in place but we would almost always have to pay our own money first and wait to be compensated later. which many have experienced little to no compensation. appointments for 'help' are also extremely long waits.

    I’m happy I watched this. Now I understand you so much more. I’m sorry you have to be hidden. I cannot imagine having to hide such an important part of yourself. I did have one question for you. You had mentioned last year that you intend to enlarge your signature palette to 24. When might that happen?

      thank you wendy :) thank you for understanding. ah yes, my palette, im still working on narrowing it down so hopefully i can finalise it all before May. if it’s posted, i’ll most likely call it “My Extended Palette.”

    By the way, I understand how expensive da Vinci watercolours are for me in Australia just to spend $45-$50 on their test as it would’ve cost me nearly $150 in shipping. I wrote to them about this about how dear their shipping rates were compare to everywhere else, and they’ve actually change that worldwide shipping to a flat rate of $40 USand if you spend over 150 US you get $20 US off

    • @PaintinHiding

      i try not to purchase anything above $45 USD anymore because that's thailand's import limit before imposing taxes. import taxes can range from 7-30% for art supplies and thai customs are soooooo incredibly unpredictable. honestly, if it's a properly running system, and i KNOW for sure how much i will be paying, i may import over $45. there are multiple reports of lost packages and confiscated packages for unreasonable reasons so... i just dont bother with customs. too unpredictable.

    Good for your parents. RUclips success isn't real success. It can all disappear in a single day. A misspoken word, a change in social dysfunction, the clock of a wrong button. All gone. At is the greatest hobby on earth but as far as a real life business, it's very much like politics. You need a good pr firm to promote you. You need a gallery to promote you. You need the education for the gallery to pretend you are better than others. It's all artifical and subject to change with the tides and breeze. Get a real education. Get a real career. Make your parents proud and yourself financially comfortable. Keep RUclips as a hobby that pays. Your parents are good people doing the hard work of teaching you to be self sufficient through education, work ethic and values. Stick with it.

      @@PaintinHiding I will! So far the Rosemary & Co brushes have been great but I only tried some of them, all squirrels and they have a steep learning curve! The Khadi sketchbooks are awesome! They also have a learning curve. The Fuumuuiart are still on their way but I have a good feeling about them.

      @@markyteo squirrel hair is definitely much more different and if u end up not liking it, it’s fine too. i feel like squirrel hair might not be for everyone but soooo many people think they have to like it because it’s either squirrel or sable. oh yeahh, khadi sure has a learning curve. keep painting and have fun! 🥰👍🏻

    Are you able to move out of home? I know that you come from a very different culture than myself. I personally live with my dad but he supports what I do and I’ve never had to hide anything. I find this extremely upsetting that you’re in this situation. I would wonder if your parents ever considered that you could be a horrible daughter, and just completely leave them, and not help them at all, but you are choosing to stay by choice and help them financially, and in other ways, I would’ve thought they would be grateful. It sounds like it would be much nicer for you. If you could move out maybe even with a couple of friends so that it’s not too expensive and you wouldn’t have to hide your beautiful personality and the things that you love I know that it’s very much your culture, but times have changed and I think it would be so much better for you to be able to openly express your creativity. But again I don’t understand your personal situation or culture that I do you understand. I’m not in your shoes, but you have certainly made me realise how very very lucky I am. I to look after my father who is 89 years old, and he’s not in the best of health, but he has always encouraged me. Thank you for sharing such a personal story with us.

      @@PaintinHiding I actually understand this situation more than you know. I only have a couple of friends from church, but for many years I had no friends because I had a car accident and became permanently disabled slowly friends disappeared from my life because they were moving on with their perfectly normal, healthy life, and didn’t want to be around or include someone that had limitations or a disability. It seem to put a dent in therelifestyle. I know though that they are not worth having as friends if they’re not gonna be there for both good and bad we’re here for you
