  • In this video we stretch the distance with my CVA Optima V2 inline muzzleloader.
We are shooting a 245 grain hollo point powerbelt. The propellent is 150 grains of 50/50 powder ignited by a 209 primer.
    At 100 yards I get a 2" group, 150 yards a 5" group, and 200 a 12" group.
The velocities measured between 1750 fps and 1950 fps.
    Enjoy the video.

I discovered these Optimas when a friend bought one and asked me to sight it in with a scope. The third shot was dead center bullseye. I've since bought two. Being a New Hampshire resident, I always had TC's. These CVA's easily outshot my Encore with factory barrel. The key is the Bergara made barrels. Mine will consistently shoot clover leafs at 50 yards with.430 Hornady bullets and harvester sabots. 2 inches at 100 easily. At one time Bergara made barrels for the Encore. I bought one then and I've been getting the same kind of accuracy for over ten years with that barrel. These Optimas are the best value in black powder rifles.

That was a good honest review and sight in session sir. I have been building guns for 48 years now and every one of them will react different to a number of variables. Find that sweet load and the range you feel most confident with and do not deviate. You mentioned the most important thing about hunting… “can you hit a deer at 200 yards? Yea! Do you think it is 100% ethical? Probably not”. More “Hunter” need to ask themselves that question. I subscribed and thank for sharing

You'd get a lot better groups if you got rid of the powerbelts and went with one of the hornady saboted bullets. I thought the full bore powerbelts would shoot good but was surprised when I got way better groups with the hornady xtp 240 grain bullets. Tightest group at 100yds with the hornadys was an inch. Furthest kill with the optima v2 was 165 yds (hornady xtp 240gr + 100gr triple 7). Great video, I think with the right bullet you'll gain a bit more confidence in that gun's capabilities past 150. I love my optima v2!

    Couple of ideas?
    I have the same rifle.
I shoot 150 grains of triple seven, 245 grain aero tip Powerbelt , and white hot primers.
Rule 1- use the pipe cleaner for pellets . The oils from your hands badly degrade the powder it touches.
I brush the barrel and run a wet patch and two dry ones between shots.
All this equals 2- 2 1/2 inch groups at 250 yards.

From experience with a T/C Triumph that likes Hornady XTP 240 grain, I've taken deer out to 125 yrds with 100 grains of pyro pellets, and I think its about the limit for that setup on performance. I never could get good groups with 150 grain charges, and never had time to tinker with it. I think if I did loose powder, and went somewhere between 110 and 120 grains, and a 300 gr XTP, Id maybe go out to 150 yards depending on groups. I never tried BH 209 yet, but I hear its good. I picked up a optima in stainless nitride, a few yrs ago, and tried white hots in it. Not sure if its something to do with white hots, but VERY hard to get bullets pushed down after first shot. Not sure if its a residue it leaves compared to other powders, or something else up. Didn't have time to mess with it much, and its still a project for another time. Usually nitride is slicker and cleans easy, so not sure on if its a nitride thing, or not.

I can tell you what is going to happen if you keep shooting with that box of Pellets open and right next to the gun. I've already seen one video where the guy set a whole box off in his face. They won't blow up, but will make a very impressive fireball. At least close the lid. Other than that, very impressive shooting.

Get rid of the led sled, better groups without it. No need to clean bore after 3 shots, good way to get lousy groups.

I've got that same gun in the LR version. Love mine with a good bullet it is very accurate. That is a good bullet, don't get me wrong and I've shot a lot of them, but as far as accuracy there are many better bullets out there. I haven't gotten to shoot mine a whole lot yet but the best accuracy I've gotten so far was with the Hornaday 250 grain SST. 100 grains of Tripple 7 Firestar pellets. (Three of them). I've shot a few rounds with four pellets, and I'm not sure the gain in recoil is worth the difference in velocity. Try that same test with the Hornaday or the Powerbelt ELR bullet and I think you'll be impressed with the gain in accuracy with them.

You said it has the Konus Pro Scope... Were you using the holdovers for each yardage? The main reticle is for 100 yard zero, did you use the subsequent holdover for 150 and 200?

  • @otcgunars

  • @williamgregory6684
    @williamgregory6684 2 года назад

Did you readjust your horizontal crosshair after each distance adjustment? There's a guy on utube claiming to hit multiple times at 415 yards with a Traditions Tracker which is about the least expensive inline on the market with a 3+9 scope, and a 24 inch standard barrel, and I believe him. That rifle has been in production for quite a few years and for good reason, it's accurate! Your rifle should easily group at 200 yards with the right loads.
