The two funniest scenes in tv history (IMHO) were on this show. The second funniest scene was when Julio took Fred and Lamont to a Mexican restaurant. The funniest was the moment “Big Money” Grip told Aunt Esther that Lamont was his son, not Fred’s. 😅

Well she wasn’t the the original aunt Esther there was another actress but lawanda owned that role. She said in a interview she felt insecure doing the role but redd fox argue he wanted lawanda to play the role or he would quit they were real,life friends for years
They originally wanted Beah Richards in that role as Aunt Ethel and as a foil for Fred, but her demeanor was too nice. So at Redd's insistence, LaWanda Page was brought in and morphed into Aunt Esther. And we know the rest. Sadly, when Redd died suddenly, it hit LaWanda hard. At the visitation, she collapsed by his casket crying uncontrollably.

The one time that I remember her being real nice to Fred was in Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe when Grippe appeared claiming that Lamont was his son after an affair with Elizabeth. When Lamont was telling Fred that as far as he was concerned, he was and would always be his father, Esther had her hand on Fred's shoulder. But then we learned that it was Esther that Grippe slept with that night and not Elizabeth.
My favorite part was where the director offered Fred a cigarette. That was a riot! I didn’t figure they’d show that part though. I love it when Rollo smiles after Fred makes that Ajax joke. He was cracking up inside 😂
It was said Redd Foxx did not like rehearsals so I suspect the actor playing Rollo knew the script but Red's performance broke his down to where he was laughing.
LOL -- I'm as white as they come, and I laughed out LOUD when Fred made certain references to whites. Case-in-point: In one of the episodes, Fred blamed someone named "Y.T." for breaking into his house. Now...say it fast, and repeat...YT...YT...YT... 😲 And once on the Jeffersons, when George & Weezy were having some sort of problem, George said, "We should be like The Waltons...everytime one of those h__kees gets into trouble, the whole family pitches in to help..."
