    ABOUT SANFORD AND SON:
The highest-rated half-hour series in NBC history at the time, Sanford and Son stars Redd Foxx as the cantankerous sexagenarian Fred Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont, also his business partner in the family junk-dealing business. To prevent his son from leaving home, and bent on having things his own way in general, Fred often calls upon such ruses as fake heart attacks or phony back ailments. Lamont usually sees through these subterfuges, but because he loves his father, he lets him think he's getting his way.

Back in the day we only had 7 channels. Mod Squad, wild wild west, Bonanza, riffle man, Big Valley, Streets of San Francisco, All in the Family, Star Trek and so much more. 7 channels was a blessing compared to the crap we have now and it was free. Can I go back to the 70's? life was so much better.

      Exactly.
"Sanford and Son" -- What a testament to good writing -- timeless; good writing never goes out of style/fashion; skilled performers in a true ensemble who brought magic to the screen, good directing keeping everything in check and, God bless 'em, the LIVE audience*, elements that combined together did bring people to joyful tears A HALF CENTURY AGO.
It still plays well for those 'who were there' in the joyful era of the three-network universe, those 'of a certain generation' AND legions of younger, new viewers who thank their lucky stars for cable, RUclips, DVD boxed sets, etc. showing "Sanford and Son."

In life, they actually both loved one another dearly. I'll never forget seeing LaWanda Page entering the funeral home when Redd Foxx passed, she was inconsolable, and people were literally dragging her into the building as she sobbed uncontrollably.
She always said that if it weren't for Redd Foxx, she would've never been in show business, and she felt extreme gratitude for him opening doors for her. May both of their souls R.I.P. for an eternity...🙏🏼...

Fred and Esther are gold. Thank God for both of them. But I have to say a word about Lamont, one of the great comedic "straight men" of the 20th century. He had a sincerity and was always grounded. Always the voice of reason. Fred was funny because of what a great team they made. Aunt Esther is the perfect foil for Fred too, and she made it three geniuses in the room. Those of us who get to revisit this are born lucky.
