"Creamy Cade" 😌 I'm going to take a moment just to appreciate those two words side by side. Alliteration, juxtaposition, onomatopoeia...poetry. Fantastic review AC. 🌿
I've tried 15 Amouage frags so far (2ml samples). Every one was challenging to me in the sense of trying to figure out what was going on from opening through the drydown. My analogy is like an Alice in Wonderland experience, like walking through an enchanted forest where things (notes) pop up and you're not sure if they are real or are illusions. Portrayal is my favorite so far. While I get the strong violet leaf note in the opening, what I also get from opening into the drydown is an aromatic, green, almost a light pine scent of a middle note--not overly strong, but still noticeable. Problem is that no one else has suggested such a pine note. Is that therefore the vetiver that I am smelling? Or am I just crazy? Haha.
Beautiful bottle & juice AC, just sampled this a few days ago, on spraying this reminded me of Kouros but in a soapy way, then branching out to give off Farenheit vibes, from mid to the end it somehow reminded me of Grey Flannel without retro elements, this perfume is complex for sure, great review 👍🏻
Excellent elocution as usual. We seem to share the same liking of fragrances. I 'd like to thank you for your masterful reviews, because you're always helping me to find classic scents that I probably would've over looked.
Great review as always. I am an unabashed Amouage fanboy and I love the note of Vetiver in fragrances. Lately, I’ve become acutely aware of the fact that my nascent niche Parfum collection is just fine: I’ve covered the 4 seasons in my area, occasions , and most of my fragrant exploratory desires. So, now it is all about my brand loyalties and breakout masterpieces. Portrayal Man fits neatly in the first and second category. I am excited about the thought of exploring this one further. Thank you!
I love your videos! Thanks for doing this one. I have Portrayal Woman, which I very much enjoy. However, I've always have been terribly curious about it's male counterpart. Everything you described makes me want to get a decant and see my chemistry compliments it. Thanks again. Great vid! 👌💚
Mad for vetiver. My first, lamented love was L'Occitane Eau de Vetyver. I'm still...let's say, "discovering" my 0.7 ml. samples of Amouage Beach Hut Man and Jubilation XVV. Both of them sweeter perhaps (if that's the right word for it) than my usual inclinations. I like, for instance, Encre Noire, Grey Flannel, Oriza L. LeGrand Chypre Mousse, Guerlain Vetiver--though also, I should add, Guerlain Heritage, L'Homme Ideal Extreme, CdG Rouge. The Beach Hut Man and Jubilation XVV push me in a direction I can appreciate yet don't quite feel are "me" as much as the others I've mentioned here. I love sniffing them but can't quite find the day or occasion on which I'm entirely comfy "being" either one of those fragrances, if you know what I mean. Still and all, these two captivate me as marvelous scents in their own right. The quality cannot be denied. And now your assessment of Portrayal has me ju-u-u-st wondering, hmm, is this an Amouage more in my aesthetic neighborhood?
I just glanced at the reviews of Portrayal on Fragrantica and, fascinatingly, the consensus seems to be that it's a peculiarly non-Amouage-ish Amouage! Well whaddya know, that's the vibe I was getting from your review here, too. That only confirms my hunch even more, i.e., that this might be an Amouage without that ju-u-u-st too sweet, too "perfumey" thing for me that I'm getting from Beach Hut and Jubilation. Now I really MUST try it.
Thank you for a great review AC🙏🏼 Portrayal Man is now part of my collection and one of my all time favourite perfumes. Have you tried Honour man and Myths Man?
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews I am glad to see you are well and checking your channel. Your creative videos are missed. I posted the new Jubi 40, looking forward to seeing your review :)
I never noticed a Cognac note. I get the Juniper and Gin vibe you mentioned. Going to have wear this one in the heat again to see if I detect the Cognac. I always get a soapy vibe when I wear it in warm weather. Perhaps from sandalwood. Did you see Amouage repackaged the Opus line?
So glad to hear that, Dia and Lyric are truly amazing fragrances :) Portrayal is worth sampling, although like me it might take a few wears to appreciate it.
Thank you for the reveiw, AC. I'm slowly starting to dive into house of Amouage and so far I had a chance to try Reflection, Boundless, Epic, Beach Hut and Bracken Man. All very nice and high quality fragrances. There are another 11 I want to try, most of them thanks to your videos. Did you have a chance to try anything from the house of Goutal? It would be great to get your take on Bois D'Hadrien. Something tells me it is a scent you might enjoy :)
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews definitelly give that one a try. To my nose it is a fresher version of Tom Ford Vert d'Encens with lime on top + very good performance as well.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews if you will have hard time finding it, let me know and I will gladly send you a decant. Hopefully it won't be too much of a hustle to send it in the envelope via post from Czech Republic :D

@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews Really? People always talk about the “pre-magnetic cap” versions, etc. Reflection Man is an oft-cited victim of the alleged reformulations, from my skimming of forums. Might be nonsense.
@@Sliceisnice850 Dont believe a word of that. I have both made in Oman version decant of reflection and the current 2020 Uk version I don't see much difference either than a slight difference in depth of the omani version due to age of that decant. You also have to remember that fragrances may smell slightly different due to where the raw materials are sourced from, the supply chain factor can also give the fragrance a slight variation unless they are just using synthetics. So far in my experience I haven't experienced the rampant loss of performance in fragrances when it comes to Amouage, Guerlain etc. sadly such things cant be said about houses like YSL, Dior and Chanel.
Great review ,I tip my hat to you on this oneA.C, so true not simply a niche version of Fahrenheit, all told it certainly starts off as a pretender to being such, but time tells the tale and the blending unfolds and displays a more complex and unique experience for the mid to dry down wearer to appreciate . Mr AC, what's the general temperature for you when you mention mid-spring? Is there like a range of temps, or is about humidity/precipitation?
I would say 15 - 20 C and about 40 - 60% Humidity. A very high humidity will make this fragrance suffocating because of the heavy notes.
