  • In this video I install a second battery in my jetson bolt pro. With 2 batteries, my range is over 30 miles with full throttle. I purchased my second battery from ebay and I do a detailed installation guide on this video. I will be doing a full review of this battery in the near future.

    I did this mod! So, I have replaced the inside battery with the eBay battery (10000mAh), plus I bought a second identical battery for the extended range. I finished the wires coming out of the frame case with a flexible wire cover, and I put the second battery inside my rack bag. Looks very clean! I chose not to use a switch because I can make the connections easily inside the rack bag, and I have the option of not using it or using an even bigger 36v 14000mAh battery inside the bag. Hi I am a compleate computer moron, and lack confidence in the use of my hands and mind ever sense I suffered a coma in 2016... but watching your very step by step instructions on everything I've needed to work on like adjusting breaks, in installed front shocks, seat, with a shock in the post, even changing a rear tire tube... BUT YOUR VIDEOS MADE IT EASY even though I usually screwed up once or twice you are there to remind me of the steps.. Now here's what I asked you wrote you about I bought a Jetson boat Pro refurbished that has some issues with it Judson elected to send me my money back and I interned bought another refurbished bike and here's the wonderful part they don't want the old bike back! So now I have spare tires with the rims and motor hub spare chains for sprockets basically spare everything except for the few parts that went screw you on the bike which were nearly just a great coils and accelerator switch. now what I want to do when I get my new bike I want to put the battery for my existing bike on the back rack and I'd like to know if you can kind of send me a video on how to do that I know there's any connections nessary for a set up ,,,for instance, I ride until my main batter is on 1 dot power, turn off bike, connect power and controller to external batter and I off for more. It is still in the box, but I plan to open it up this weekend, charge the battery, and assemble. I am very much looking forward to adding all of the accessories that you recommended, and wiring in a 2nd battery on a rear rack. Thank you for all of your guidance and recommendation. might be a better idea to just add a key switch on the power rather than the on off switch it comes with. Can add it to the original case that way your son can just turn the key switch off to avoid discharge. Removing the battery would be a lot of work and more of a headache.

I think it would be fun to use your original type of wiring, where you can switch from one battery to the other. Place one battery in the back rack, one in the bike, and one in a handlebar bag, which can be switched to the back rack. As I said interested in the controller capability experience, and how far you can travel on two batteries, i.e. throttle only and pedal assist with the standard crank. Thanks.

      I did everything exact to video! Worked great. I noticed the first cycle of the eBay batteries only lasted me 9.5 miles on mostly all electric. I assume the batteries got a break in period? Also the motor seemed to lose power after full throttling it for that time. For reference I weigh 200 lbs. I assume the motor is simply being over worked and is cutting power due to heat.

      @ShivaSapkota  3 года назад +1

      @@porschegt2346 I am glad it worked well for you. 9.5 miles seem a little low. The motor shouldn't be overworked that quickly. Were you riding on a flat surface or was it hills? I love your videos Shiva, but if you're an engineer who specialises in electrical systems, you should know that the Ah rating of a battery only determines the capacity and/or output capability, not how much it pushes. The amount of current is 100% dependent on how much a connected device draws. It's like, you're not going to burn out a starter because you put an 800CCA battery in a car that had a 600CCA battery originally.

    • @ShivaSapkota

      Hi Stephen, I will do a better job of adding wiring diagrams in my future videos. For this one, basically the extra battery has 2 wires (one for power and the other one has a built in chargeport). The power wire is a Dean-T plug so won't directly connect with Jetson since Jetson has XT60 connection. So, you need a Dean to XT60 connector. After that, you just use some XT60 extension cords to connect everything. Thanks for watching my video, I appreciate your time.

    Sorry if I missed it, but people should know not to wire both batteries together in parallel. This work only if both batteries are equally charged. If not, one can easily catch fire which you don't want with such a large Lithium pack. If people do want to be able to charge and use both batteries together, they would need to buy a parallel ebike module specifically made so this is safe.

      Hi Brian, yes you can technically do that but I would be nervous about paralleling two batteries with different internal resistance and BMS. I have a VIVI folding mountain e-bike . The range is absolutely crap. It claims around 24 miles with pedal assist but that’s not true. I’ve tested it out. I’ve done everything to try to alleviate weight on the bike especially my own weight by using the pedal assist over the summer and watching what I eat and drink I was able to lose 20 pounds, which I thought would be great to add some mileage for those days where I just wanna cruise on the bike full throttle. The bike weighs a ton because it’s solid steel with only a few minor aluminum parts because it’s a folding mountain bike so it has to be able to withstand the constant pressure of folding in half if it was aluminum, I think I’d get better range, but they don’t make folding aluminum bikes for reasons of the soft alloy. Was thinking the same thing that I would like to set up a second battery, although I did not want to alter the wiring harnesses, which run along the outside of the bike, the battery pack is in a pouch on the front handlebars, but I was thinking easily doing the same set up as you where I had a package carrier on the back part of the bike make a special case for the secondary battery and just zip tie another battery cable Across the frame of the bike to the back part and just do a quick switcheroo when the first battery wears out. It seems cathartic though if I think about the whole adding more weight just to get more range through a battery a couple of pounds makes a difference I think these batteries or I like the ability to get a bigger battery pack for less money Vivi charges about $249 for a replacement battery now of course it’s in case in plastic and comes with a charger but still not worth it. Where is the bike brand new cost $379 I literally paid more for the battery than I did for the worth of the bike and there’s not much I can do to lighten the load physically on anything of the bike. But I’m glad you did this video, and I am curious to see how much more range you get with that little Jetson. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Please be careful purchasing the high capacity battery and make sure it is from a reputable seller. Sometime Ebay sellers are fake and they claim 30AH but the battery is really 10. So, read some seller reviews before buying it. Thanks my friend, I appreciate you watching my videos.

    Have you riden this bike on a gravel road ( a bike road basically just made of a bunch of Little Rocks) will it damage the bike also do you know how fast this bike can go going full speed on the throttle and pedaling thanks in advance great series you have here

    • @ShivaSapkota
      @ShivaSapkota  3 года назад

      Hello, I have ridden this bike on a gravel road for short periods but wouldn't recommend it too much. Any bike can damage faster if you constantly ride on gravel/dirt roads. You should be fine for a short period of time and make sure to clean the bike afterwards. The speed will vary based on the topography, wind and weight. You should be able to get anywhere from 11-15 miles. You can go a little bit faster if you pedal rapidly but due to the size of the crankset and speed limiter on the controller, you are really limited on how fast you can go. Thanks for watching my videos and supporting my channel.

    Awesome vid. Very helpful and informative. Could the two batteries be hooked up to a switch (possibly mounted to handlebars or somewhere else within reach) to flip between the two?

      Hi Joseph, it totally depends on your budget and the features you want. I think this is by far the best quality ebike for the low price compared to other similar ebikes in the market. If you just want a little higher speed, just the controller upgrade should do the job. If you want more range, then I would say do the controller upgrade and get a 48V battery. Thanks for your support to my channel. I really appreciate it.

    Hey again. I bought the Jetson Bolt Pro but I haven't unboxed it yet.... I have a personal question. How much do you weigh....I need a reference to what I weigh 215. Is performance going to be really changed by your weight. If I'm getting close to the max than I probably should be looking for a different eBike but if you're not having any problems I think I'll give it a try....Thanks for great posts!

    • @ShivaSapkota
      @ShivaSapkota  3 года назад +1

      Hi Mark, I weigh 185 lbs and haven't had any performance issues with this bike. I have subscribers who weigh 230 lbs and still be able to ride without significant performance issues. The main difference is the range, higher the weight, less range you will get. Depending on where you live (topography) the speed shouldn't be too different than someone who weighs less. Thanks for watching my videos.

      Hello, thanks for watching my video. I would love to make a video on replacing the controller. However, controller alone won't make this bike go very much faster. We would have to replace the crank and chain as well. I have been looking into those upgrades but haven't made a decision yet. I will for sure make a video if I decide to purchase those mods.

    Thanks for the videos. They definitely helped me decide to purchase two Bolt Pros for my wife and me. As you may know the extra battery you tested is sold out on EBay. Can you post a list of currently available batteries on EBay that would also work? Would any 36 volt/ 10 amp battery work?

    • @ShivaSapkota
      @ShivaSapkota  3 года назад +1

      Hi Mark, thanks for your support to my channel. I am happy to hear that my videos have been helpful. Technically any 36V battery will work regardless of the amp hour. I wouldn't go anything pass 20AH. There are some scammers in Ebay who will sell you a 60AH battery, which is not even physically possible for the size. Here is a 14AH/16AH one that will work as long as you mount it in the rear rack instead of inside the controller housing: ebay.us/E2Uudw. I think this battery will do about 20-30 miles in the summer.

      @@ShivaSapkota Thanks, Shiva! One more quick question. Do I need to buy the charger that comes with it, or will my Jetson charger charge both batteries at the same time?

    • @ShivaSapkota
      @ShivaSapkota  3 года назад +1

      @@benthallm Hi mark, I would recommend using the charger that comes with the new battery. If you are doing a parallel connection (please watch my most recent video about my concerns with that method) then you can use the Jetson charger to charge both batteries at the same time. The Jetson charger can charge the new battery if you charge those batteries one at a time. Thanks for your questions.
