Well, I successfully replaced the switch. It was easy after watching your video. The problem is that now it's 1 year later, and I've got the same problem again. That new switch that I installed lasted exactly 1 year and 4 days before it pooped out on me. The stove is only about 3 years old. lol. I guess I better buy a few extra switches at the rate they are crapping out. Anyway, when this one died, I just pulled up your video for a refresher course on replacing it. @@ApartmentMaintenance I found your video doing a RUclips search. I saved a link to the video in my Favorites, so it was easy to find again. I've just subscribed, too. Thanks!
This video is very clear, thank-you! I followed the steps, and I have the same type of stove as shown in the video. It is the 6-inch rear right-hand burner which is causing the light to stay on (= burner not heating, knob switched off, but light is on). But installing a new switch for that burner did not fix the problem. Is it possible that the switch I ordered from Amazon is defective? In your comments below, you said it "could be a wiring issue"? Any idea what could be the problem? Advise ordering a new switch from GE? P.S. My stove is not old, maybe five years give or take.
Thank you for the kind words on the video. If your comfortable with electrical work & can do the troubleshooting yourself (I know you said "installing a new switch for the burner didn't fix the problem" but you didn't specify if you replaced it or someone else did. But whoever does it, can try the troubleshooting like I did in my video where you unplug the stove, unhook one switch and plug it back in & see if the light goes out. Once the light goes out you know that's the bad switch. The switch I replaced in the video was the switch for the large 8" burner in the front which is the far right switch on the control panel. The smaller 6" burner in the right rear of the stove would be the 2nd switch in from the right side. Whatever side of your stove the light is staying on, it would be one of the switches on that same side causing the issue. Unless it's a malfunction in the control board between the stove top switches. That is rare but it can happen. Just double check all your wiring from replacing the first switch to confirm everything is wired properly. Thanks for watching Jennifer & Subscribe to the channel 👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance Thanks for you prompt reply! I did the troubleshooting and replaced the switch myself. Maybe I replaced the wrong switch. I was looking for the switch that makes the light stay ON after I unhook it/plug the stove back in. I should be looking the switch that stays OFF when I unhook it/plug the stove in. That would be the 8" burner.
@@jenniferwalden3029 That is correct! Your looking for the switch that makes the light go off once it's unhooked, cuz that will then tell you which one it is. The switches are different for the 8" burner & 6" burner. I'm not sure which one you purchased but if you purchased the 8" burner switch & put it in the spot where the 6" burner switch is, you should put the correct one back. If your stove is like the one in my video, the 8" burner switch is part # WB24T10025 & it usually has a orange dot on the back of it where the wire terminals are. The 6" burner switch is part # WB24T10029 & usually has a black dot on the back of it where the wire terminals are. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching Jennifer. 👍

My situation is the same but instead of the burner light staying on it is the indicator light for the oven that stays on when oven is actually not in use. Is the solution the same? Thanks
It will turn on when one of the switches is still hooked up to it. It's not a fuse, it's a switch. If your light is staying on when the switches are off you need to figure out which switch is causing the light to stay on. Thanks for watching Nazgul & subscribe to the channel 👍
Sounds like both switches are bad, but it's hard to say since I'm not there troubleshooting. I've never seen that before, but it could definitely be a possibility. Thanks for watching F-150
That is what I am encountering. When both burners are on and working, the indicator light flickers or sometimes does not light up, so in such case I am wondering whether it is the indicator box/wire that needs replacement.
Whatever side of the range the surface light is illuminated, that would be the side of the stove top that one of the switches needs replaced. So I tested each switch to find which one was causing the issue, then replaced it. Thanks for watching K Thax & Subscribe to the channel bro 👍
On mine the 2 large burners (8") have the same switch, & the smaller burners (6") have the same switch. You would have to search your stove model # and look up the switches, or take the back panel off & see if the part #'s are the same for each size burner, just make sure to unplug the stove before removing the back panel off. Thanks for watching hippiedude72 & Subscribe to the channel 👍
Without seeing the stove in person it's hard for me to say as I would be just guessing. I would recommend getting the part & fixing it so things are correct & safe. Thanks for watching C Bruegge! Subscribe to the channel 👍
Hi, will this works the same way for my glass top GE range? The light is not beside the switch, they are close to the cooker and one of the light stay on. The burner works only for 5 seconds then it turns off and can be only turned on for another 5s when the surface is completely cool. Do you think it's the switch problem? Thank you.
It's really hard to say without testing the burner & switch itself. With the power off to the range (Unplugged from the outlet) You would have to use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. Which you can test the burner at the switch & test the switch to see if it's good. Thanks for watching Luke & Subscribe to the channel 👍
You can search for the part you need from GE directly if it's a GE stove you have, or online at appliance parts websites like "parts select" or "appliance parts pros". Just type in the model number of your stove and the correct parts will come up. Hope that helps, Thanks for watching Laura & Please Subscribe to the channel 👍👍
The switch doesn't matter on left or right, it matters by size of the burner & wattage (6" or 8" burner). If it's the 6" burner you need the switch for, then buy the switch for the 6" burner. If it's the 8" burner you need the switch for, then buy the switch for the 8" burner. Contact GE appliances with your model # of your range & they will get you the correct switch for whatever burner your having an issue with. Thanks for watching Ben & Subscribe to the channel bro 👍
Hi. I have a Kenmore glass top oven. My surface hot light stays on sometime when the surface is completely cool. I wiggle the switch and the light goes off. Can I take it out and clean it with electrical contact cleaner? Thanks
Sounds like one of the contacts in the switch is bad. Best thing to do is have the switch replaced. Thanks for watching Kenny & Subscribe to the channel 👍
It all depends on your situation. On the stove that I showed in the video, the burner would shut off when I turned the knob off, but the light stayed on which wasn't a major issue besides the light staying on. So you would have to make the decision on how to handle it, if you don't think it's safe then you can unplug your stove when your not using it until you get it fixed. I can't say that it will be fine or not cause I never seen your stove to see exactly what's going on. So that would be your decision. Thanks for watching Edwin & Subscribe to the channel 👍
@@edwinwang215 Without seeing it in person I can't say what the problem is, and if you don't feel comfortable troubleshooting the stove I don't recommend messing with it as it could be dangerous. Even with the model number you can't guess what the problem is until you troubleshoot the stove. If I had to take a guess, I would think it's a bad switch causing it, but I wouldn't know without seeing it. So you don't want to go buy a switch and not know which one is causing the light to stay on, until you know for sure, cause the switches will be different for different size burners.
Be careful, THIS IS NOT the "hot surface indicator". This indicator only show that one of the heater is on. If the problem is related with the "hot surface indicator", than the problem is one of your heater (not the switch)!!
Thanks for the advise. But it's definitely called a "Hot Surface Indicator Light" Yes you are correct in the fact that the light is there to let the person know that a burner is turned on. The light on the left side in-between the left 2 switches is for the 2 burners on the left side of the stove & the light on the right side in-between the right 2 switches is for the 2 burners on the right side of the stove. In this case, the light on the right side of the stove was on all the time, even when the switches were turned off. I checked all the burners & they were all off. The problem was that the switch was bad for the right front burner. The infinite switch can fail a few different ways, it can not work at all, it can be stuck on high or low heat, or it can fail like in this case where the light is stuck on. Thanks for watching Pro-Tech & Subscribe to the channel 👍
It's hard to say without seeing it in person, but if you don't feel comfortable with whatever your seeing you can always turn the breaker off to the stove or just unplug it. Definitely a good idea to call an Appliance repairman to come repair your stove. Thanks for watching Carolyn & Subscribe to the channel 👍
Hey dude! Work smarter, not harder. Just check the continuity between the "P" and Line1 or P1 on all switches. If there is continuity while the switch is not switched on then you found the culprit!

I’ve similar problem but the burner also won’t turn off. Wonder what can I do? Will replacing switch fix the burner as well? Or need to replace the burner as well? I’m thinking to switch the burner from the other side to the one with issue first to test if it’s a burner issue. Do u think that will work or usually it’s another issue? Thanks
I've never had the issue you described as the burner won't turn off either. You can try switching the burner but I don't think that's your issue. I would say it's the switch causing the issue, or it's the knob. The knob could be cracked on the inside where it turns the switch and you think it's turning off when you move the knob but it's not turning the switch off. Try a different knob on that switch first and see what happens, then you can try the burner. If it's still on, then it had to be the switch like in my video. I had burner lights/hot counter top light on. When i opened the back of the oven, the switch was blackened and obviously defective. After i changed the switch, the light stays on. What could cause this. The other switches appeared ok, but i never tested them. Have you ever heard of this? electric range GE model #jpb64boh2wh
It's most likely the other switch causing the light to stay on. Sometimes the switch won't show anything visible it will just cause the light to stay on cause something is wrong inside the switch. I show in the video how to find out which switch is causing the light to stay on by pulling the wire off the switch & plugging the stove back in and testing it to see which switch is causing it. But whatever side of the range your light is on, and you changed one of the switches on that side and the light is still on, then you know it's the only switch that's left on that side that's causing it. Is it safe to use the stove in this situation... bcz it’s not possible for me to unplug the wire .. I used small pot on big surface and that’s why it happened
I can't say exactly what's going on in your situation without seeing it myself, but if your situation is the same as in the video, then the burner is on high setting when turned on. I would make sure your burner is still turning off when you turn the knob off. You can make your own decision whether to use the burner or not, if you don't feel comfortable using it then I wouldn't until it's fixed. Thanks for watching 👍

Did it affect the heat? Mine goes on and stays ON. without the on/off regular way!
No, mine didn't effect the heat but that doesn't mean yours won't. Thanks for watching AA & Subscribe to the channel 👍
Can you still cook on it safely while waiting for the part?

Thanks for watching Luke & Subscribe to the channel 👍
where can I buy the part to do this ?
You can search for the part you need from GE directly if it's a GE stove you have, or online at appliance parts websites like "parts select" or "appliance parts pros". Just type in the model number of your stove and the correct parts will come up. Hope that helps, Thanks for watching Laura & Please Subscribe to the channel 👍👍
Does it matter if i get a left or right regulator switch when replacing it?or it will not matter?
@@ApartmentMaintenance thank you for your advice. I'll subscribe now.
Nice job and video
Thank you sir! 👍
Hi, since currently there is a Covid 19 outside, if I keep the bad switch on and leave the light on, is it danger?
It all depends on your situation. On the stove that I showed in the video, the burner would shut off when I turned the knob off, but the light stayed on which wasn't a major issue besides the light staying on. So you would have to make the decision on how to handle it, if you don't think it's safe then you can unplug your stove when your not using it until you get it fixed. I can't say that it will be fine or not cause I never seen your stove to see exactly what's going on. So that would be your decision. Thanks for watching Edwin & Subscribe to the channel 👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance thank you, I am using the Frigidaire MODEL CFEF3048LSM, could you help me which switch model I need to buy ?
Thanks for watching Pro-Tech & Subscribe to the channel 👍
hey i just cooked hot dogs and warmed them up an the stove is off but that light wont turn off but its still pretty hot would it cause a fire
Funny, I just cooked hot dogs and that's when the light wouldn't go off...:)
Hey dude! Work smarter, not harder. Just check the continuity between the "P" and Line1 or P1 on all switches. If there is continuity while the switch is not switched on then you found the culprit!
@@lopesh.4431 Yeah I know, doing it the way I did was to create a video for the average person around their house who is handy but maybe doesn't have a meter to check continuity. Thanks for watching 🛠️👍
@@ApartmentMaintenance Good job!
Right yea properly it’s the switch. Ok I will give that a try. Thanks :) And subscribed

Hello sir. I have a pool green color at the apartment. I been shoking for 1 week and doesn’t get clear. What do you suggest. Thank you

can I ask a question? what's the possible causes of this one?
In my video it was a bad switch that caused the surface light to stay on. Could be a wiring issue, but everytime I've seen this issue its been from a bad switch. Thanks for watching Jandil 👍

I am also having the same problem but little weird.. my light is on and at the same time the burner is also heating a little.. it won’t go off.. will it be okay to just unplug the burner for a while and get it fixed later ? Like is it safe ?
That would be your decision. If your asking what I would do if my stove was doing that. I would unplug my stove until I got it fixed. Electrical issues are not something you want to take a shortcut with. Safety First! Thanks for watching Antriksh & Subscribe to the channel 👍
Antrisksh sahai how did you fix that problem?
Thanks for watching Kevin & Subscribe to the channel 👍
I had this problem but after 5/6days of continuosly pulling the plug off before bedtime & plugging in when using it, the light seems to be back to normal. Is it normal or should i still get it checked?
I would say replace the switch cause it's going to happen again. But that's interesting that it went out, I've never had that happen. Thanks for watching Maryann & Have a good Christmas 🎄
@@ApartmentMaintenance thanks for your reply. Merry christmas 2 u & ur team as well.
I have a glass top whirlpool stove .I changed the nob fuses on the 8 inch , work for 10 minutes , and then all other burners stop working ,so I changed the terminal ,and still not working , any suggestions
You changed the fuses on the 8 inch burner? I'm not following what fuses your referring to? Then you changed the terminal? I'm not following on what your calling a fuse, & a terminal?
Is it safe to use the stove in this situation... bcz it’s not possible for me to unplug the wire .. I used small pot on big surface and that’s why it happened
I can’t pull the back off
I can't say exactly what's going on in your situation without seeing it myself, but if your situation is the same as in the video, then the burner is on high setting when turned on. I would make sure your burner is still turning off when you turn the knob off. You can make your own decision whether to use the burner or not, if you don't feel comfortable using it then I wouldn't until it's fixed. Thanks for watching 👍
Apartment Maintenance thank you ❤️
Great video, here’s how it worked for me , I turned breaker off and then on only when I cook(use) then turn it off when not , I would say about a week later I went to turn stove to use and light for some reason stoped staying on its bin 7 hours and still no light on , will update if it turns on again . The light inside the oven ? Or the clock/temperature area doesn't light up ?
@@ApartmentMaintenance clock temperature
@@m1ggiesj Sounds like the control board needs replaced. I've had some that the clock wouldn't show, but when I would press bake or set temperature it would show that & soon as I would turn the oven off it would go back to a blank screen.
