  • Hello, everyone! Nice to see you again! Portrait painting is still present in the Islamic world, contrary to the rules of Islam. An example of this are the portraits of the sultans of the Ottoman Empire, who look sternly at the visitors from the walls of the Istanbul Military Museum. They were painted by the famous Turkish artist Nevzat Cevik, commissioned by the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces. It took him 18 months to study ancient miniatures, engravings and manuscripts to accurately convey through his brush what the Ottoman Empire looked like. Let's take a look at some of his work, which we brought to life with the help of neural networks. This is very exciting. Enjoy watching!

Note that none of those paintings are real appearance of the sultans.
Sultans didn't allow to be painted in the early age, except for Mehmed II and Suleiman I, up until Mahmud II in early 18th century. And even during the reign of successor son of Mehmed II, Bayezid I had all paintings in the palace removed, which he thought it's sinful.
Reason why Mehmed II and Suleiman I have paintings by Bellini (Mehmed II) and Titan (Suleiman I) (which is not included in video but you can simply google it) was because they both were embracing towards arts work and they were simply more open minded. Meanwhile other sultans in the video like Selim I who was pretty pious and kept a very simple humble appearance throughout his life. There's even a story of him when he sees his son Suleiman I comes in his presence with accessories and fancy dress, Selim angrily says "ey Suleyman! if you dress this fancy, what is left to your mother?"

But the Turks are not Mongols or Arabs, as the Europeans make it ridiculous. Turks are a white (aryan) ethnicity speaking Altai. The highest rate in genetic tests performed on all Turks is haplogroup R1-a. Ertuğrul, who founded the Ottoman Empire, probably had blond hair. Blonde hair is inherited to us Turks from our ancestors, not from genetic confusion with Slavs or other peoples. In Turkey, the phenotype varies according to the region or city.

The most ancient Türks known in history were from the area between Hazar sea-Black sea and south of Ural mountains (eng. Caspian). They were Caucasoid. Türkiye Türks are Oğuz Türk. Türks who immigrated to Altai mountain zone nearby China are a different branch. They are Kıpçak Türk. They mixed with Far eastern Asian peoples. There were other Türk origin dynasties at Siberia, India, Iran, Central Europe and Egypt. All Türk dynasties mixed with the folks around them. So it is very natural we have many differnet looks similar to ancient Romans. Türkishness is not about race but national identity. We ruled everyone. So we understand why you are upset. But we are equal now. We are the people not the ancient dynasties. If you show respect you will get respect. This is the golden rule of being a civilised person.

Murad IV had to change it up for a smaller flashier red one, probably just so he didn't have to have a monster sized hat on all the time! Then a traditionalist came back into power and finished the series of Sultans with the BIGGEST HAT EVER!!! I gotta say.... I'm impressed with anyone who would wear a hat that big! If anyone is interested for official descriptions for the Sultans
    Fatih Sultan Mehmed II:
Very crooked nose, face of shallow complexion, dark brown/redish beard
    Yavuz Sultan Selim I:
Tall, broad shouldered and a dark moustache
Kanuni Sultan Suleiman I The Magnificent:
During his youth he was described as tall and slender, with a long neck and crooked legs, sparse facial hair, hooked nose, slightly broad shoulders, strong glare.
During his later years he was described as even thinner as he wasnt eating properly due to all the losses his suffered, this habit seemed to have mainly started after killing his son Mustafa with many ambassadors claiming his character had worsened and he was always sad looking.
    Sultan Selim II The Sot:
Short(which came from Hurrem),overweight(due to his love of pleasure),light redish/blonde hair and beard
    Sultan Mehmed III:
    Dark haired and extremely obese
    Fatihi Baghdad Sultan Murad IV:
Round face, hazel eyes, pitch black beard, broad shouldered, muscular and overall very large.
There is a lot of debate on his height, with him supposedly being very tall but one ambassador described him as being average height.
Overall its likely the ambassador was a race of taller people and Murad was still quite tall for a Turk(Turks are a bit short)

Full of bullshit, especially for Süleyman "The Magnificent". Your "Artificial Intelligence" can't even make a good representation with the portrait made by Tiziano Vecelli . In all history resources, it's accepted that the most resembling portrait of Süleyman I was made by Tiziano Vecelli. Your "AI" can't even respect the specific nose of the Ottoman Sultans. Most of representations of the Sultans was made with oral description, so the painters never see the Sultans in face to face ( except Tiziano Vecelli). So don't publish a video with a lot of erroneous informations with the argument of "AI".
