Guiglo, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) - After making our way along the Atlantic coast of Côte d’Ivoire, we’re continuing our Ivorian food tour to the north, stopping first for an extraordinary meal in Guiglo, before we continue all the way to Northern Ivory Coast, eating as much local food as we can along the way.
In Guiglo, Côte d’Ivoire we met with the Guéré tribe and Madam cooked us an absolutely incredible meat called Sauce Bawin (cassava leaves sauce) and Sauce Kplé Ba (sticky sauce) - a meal fit for West African royalty! It was impressive and the flavors were unbelievable.
We continued our journey to Touba and to an extremely remote village called Gboola. In Gboola we saw one of the most mysterious and fascinating dances I’ve ever scene, the Ivorian stilt dances. We then had lunch with the community.
Finally to complete this cay we drove to Odienne, in the very northern part of Côte d’Ivoire. There we had some Gnomi (griddle cakes) and a huge meal of Sumbala La-fri - Rice made with eggplant and locust beans.
It was another incredible day of local West African food in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast)!
A huge thank you to my friend Mo Soumahoro from Belle Côte d’Ivoire ( / bellecotedivoire ) for arranging my trip and setting up everything.

I really like how Mark is so humble & appreciative of other cultures. Really good dude..
Yesss He Has Soo Much Respect For Others Cultures…Blessings To Him 🫶🏽
Absolutely. He is so down to earth. He really worship the food.
@@darlenecard8522⁸8
What is it with these remarks on humility under his African videos rarely seen under others when he travels elsewhere?
Or one must be especially humble to interact with Africans?
I don't get it. They're people like anyone else. And just as welcoming too, with food he enjoys just as much as other locations.
To say that someone is humble because people receive him with joy and make the effort to offer him their most beautiful dishes, it is still the expression of this illogical superiority complex that sticks to your brain, you leukoderms. you are amazing 😂😂
Mark should receive a humanitarian award...for all the love and respect he demonstrated to everyone culture...because of Mark's channel my family are on our journey to discover other cultures foods!
Lol
Disrespect would have gotten him wacked long time ago
Amen, I have thought this of him from the beginning>He is one of the few white food explorers that will go into Black countries to eat African foods. He is a true purest >
Cassive meat is the best African food it is cooked with fish meat chicken and onion peper it is the best food. it takes two hours to complated. The first day i trythe food i was completely sold it was yommy, i lost my mind. idon't want to ate nothing except CASSIVE. pleaseGod bless Sierra leone countary andthe people. Wiith lots of love.
The lady's happiness in feeding you is so palpable. She is watching to make sure you have all ur fingers in your mouth and none of the flavors are missed. God bless her.
Unsanitary
Disgusting
The whole hand in mouth is disgusting, I'm African too but where I come from we do use our hands too but just to drop the food into the mouth. No licking of fingers, it's really looked down upon
@@melmel8683 Exactly, I understand some cultures eat with their hands but she took it to whole another level.
We wash our hands thoroughly🙄 Plus the deliciousness that comes with eating with your fingers and licking them is unmatched😋 It takes the food experience to a whole new level.
It's so refreshing how you appreciate not just the food ,but the cultural also,Mark. Congrats on 10 million followers 💜👏
I couldn't 😢
Thank you very much, truly incredible dance and culture in Cote d'Ivoire!
Well deserved
Can you go to my country central african republic
Mark Weins is light personified. I wish all of humanity were like you. What a wonderful world this would be if people saw humanity in the way that you do.We are one human family and apparently your family gave you that understanding. Your parents did an amazing job with you I saw your father and he was lovely as well. I share your videos with all my friends. Keep up the great work 👍🏾
Real talk. He is a special being. The type of energy the world needs to unite.
@@trej7262 💯He gives me hope in humanity🙏🏾
He is the reincarnation of christ.
it will be awesome if he do ASMR eating and whisper For us !^_^
Still can't trust them
A mention to his wife ,who is just as humble as he is. They are both a shining example of how God intended us to live. To love and appreciate all cultures.
she's eating with you the way mom's eat with their children,I like it.
THIS IS MY MOTHER’S TRIBE ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE IVORY COAST 🇨🇮. SHE MAKES THOSE DISHES HERE IN THE STATES 🇺🇸 AND BOY LET ME TELL YOU THEY’RE FIRE 🔥. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT IS THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH OF IT YOU EAT YOU NEVER SEEM TO GAIN WEIGHT.

OMG....THIS IS EVERYTHING. Brought tears to my eyes to see Mark bringing smile and kindness to the unseen cultures. Mark thank you to you and your family for this. Africa 🌍 🌍 🌍 🌍 Thanks Mo
I don’t know why when I watched Mark ate the donut kind of dessert at the end and all the little kids laugh made me cried. Their little laughs are so innocent and sweet as they watch someone appreciate their favorite food. The way he appreciates everyone’s culture just touches my soul how great of a human he is so humble.❤❤❤
I have no idea where the food goes on this man! He must be feeding his spirit. ✌🏿
You not alone same wondering here👍
Xtra mile metabolism😂
I can’t believe mark literally went to my village this is so amazing!! 😍😍
This shows Africa. We are raised as women to nurture. It’s so in us to host and show love through welcoming people
Our continent is often discounted but it’s honestly one of the most beautiful places in this world
❤ i love african mamas
You right we were raised to nurture
I am a nurse and my patients always say that I have a special way to do things.
I haven't many videos of people traveling to Africa to eat! Mark bringing its food, culture, and traditions is freshing! The villages show extreme hospitality! I love how they eat together as a community.
I am so envious of Mark . He gets to live such a fulfilling life doing what he loves as he brings joy to other people’s lives. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to learn all this new cultures with you .
Tuko kila pahali wah!
Our Western Africa is the same, we eat same food and wear same outfit just across the border in Liberia similar culture. I visited Mane so many times, we lived in Danane as refugee for many years. Beautiful place and beautiful people
The guéré tribe of Ivory Coast come from Liberia and migrate in Ivory Coast long time ago.
@@christianeamani4144I think it’s the other way round
Out of the many years of watching Marks videos. I mean MANY years, this is the first time I have commented. This is my favorite video! I felt so connected and the power behind the camera made its way into my house! I am moved and thankful! So beautiful!!
As we go across the country, we learn more about what people eat. From seafood on the coast to tubers in the middle and grains in the north. I want to express my gratitude to Mark for including the cultural dance, which gives the world a glimpse into some of our colorful celebrations as we enjoy delicious food. I am eagerly anticipating the next episode! Stay tuned! Vive la Côte d’Ivoire dans toute sa splendeur 🇨🇮

I am Ivorian and I live in Côte d’Ivoire. I watched all your videos about Côte d’Ivoire. Thank you for this authentic work that truly testifies to our culture, customs and tradition. It is not always easy to see the authentic face of Africa in Western reports where they always show war, children suffering from famine. Which only exists in some areas of Africa. Thank you.🇨🇮🇨🇮
It's true, there is no famine here.
This is so amazing. Seeing someone really imersing himself to fully understand the tradition and culture behind the food. Big respect to Mark.
this actually made my night🥰 Missing my country so much. Thanks for showing the beauty of Ivory Coast.
This world would be a better place if we have more people like you Mark. The way you respected other cultures and appreciative of the hospitalities. Keep up the good amazing work 😋😋👏😁
OMG! The mask dance was beautiful 😍 It must take lots of skill and coordination to dance like that. Nice to see a culture so pure and untouched.
The food has such a kaleidoscope of color. Looks delicious, Mark. You are a citizen of the world.
Thanks
YOU DESERVE A WORLD AWARD FOR YOUR GREAT WORK>=.

Your channel is the best Mark. Congratulations on 10 Million followers, those are really well deserved. How you always respect other cultures and traditions is really beautiful and special. I know not much about Ivory Coast, thanks to you I learn about it, and it looks beautiful and the food seems amazing. Thank you very much!
And sooooo satisfying to see him EATTTT!!!!!!!
Your African videos definitelydeserve WAY MORE VIEWS. Thank you for all you do to show the beauty & culture & food of the African continent. I definently love their traditions & strong family values
Merci
West Africa seems to be generous with their food servings. That’s totally fit for a King, considering they need to eat a lot to be able to fulfill their duties and responsibilities to their community.
@neverforget1971not true
@neverforget1971 I hope u re being sarcastic. If not, u sound highly ignorant.
@neverforget1971 False. I've lived there (and 5 other west African countries). They are all very generous in the serving size, no matter their financial status. It's just hospitality. It is an overall poor region of the world, yes, but the biggest cities are doing quite well I'd say.
@neverforget1971Half or west african is starving ??? beautiful lie!
@neverforget1971Have you ever been there?
You are the KING!! The Ambassador of food over the Globe! Love your outfit at 10:04. The dancing at 26:04 is so fabulous it will shame even the best BREAK DANCERS
It amazes me how many cultures do not use utensils while eating, and how common it is for them to eat with their hands from the same dish. You’re a special type of person to be able to stomach that. Personally I couldn’t do it. Keep eating, and we’ll keep watching. Cheers. 🌶️
Lol “to be able to stomach that”….I peeped the shade but it’s true
The utensils are not really the problem, it's the finger licking whilst sharing a plate with someone else that would be a problem for me
@@melmel868312:20 🤮
This was fascinating! So many different ingredients and techniques. And the way she fed you. Wow!
No other food travel guide is as humble as Mark you are simply the best who respects different cultures soo beautifully keep up the great work and I love the way you speak so softly and politely ❤
Oh how I have dreamed of seeing the continent of Africa and experiencing the culture! I was never able to do it and now since I'm a senior with health issues, I know I will never be able to myself I can't thank you enough Mark, for taking me on the store and then letting me experience all of the food and culture that it has to offer you have provided p me with many years of extraordinary travel thank you Mark, I love you and your family so much and appreciate your videos more than I can ever tell you have made an older woman very happy!!!!
Never say never!!! Wishing you lots of happiness and health!!!
This is genuinely fascinating and your host is a gracious and generous woman, but I draw the line at having someone else’s saliva in my food.
Me too😂😂😂
You dont have to watch you know. He shares plates with other people in other parts of the world and even cutlery so I wonder why you're nattering about it here.
@@Nethanda So you wouldn’t mind if someone handled your food after sucking their fingers?
@@moerahman6749 Like I said you don't have to watch. It is not about my personal prefernaces here about the way you moralizing bunch suddenly remember all that under certain videos and blissfully forget about when it comes to others. Mark shares cutlery and dishes and he's not the only one. Even celebs share dishes on this platform.
I agree too much saliva sharing. I don't mind using my fingers, but she took it way over the top.
West African food is tasty but I cannot stay all day in kitchen. 😂😂😂 Ivorian food similar to Nigerian food from delta region concerning the palm nut soup we call banga soup. I also noticed ogbono soup the draw slimy soup or sticky one😂😂😂mark calls it... Made from melon like seeds. I saw the woman pounding it. That's my favourite.
Isn't melon egusi & ogbono wild bush mango seed?
The way Mark accepts the food from Madam Elena without hesitation is a sign of respect and appreciation. Thank you for sharing this act of love Mark.
Watching from Jamaica 🇯🇲
I can't wait to try the authentic African food especially the popular fufu
Fufu is pretty much pounded cassava or yam made into an almost indescribable texture and eaten with soups and meat dishes
cheers from Mexico!
@@SeanMichael-yt4psthere are different types of fufu. In Cameroon there is also pounded native cocoyam we call fufu. There is also pounded Plantains mix in Ghana
@@Vee-yc5htso does fufu mean “pounded starch”? It doesn’t matter which starch?
@@SeanMichael-yt4ps can use canned yams?
The way Mark is battling with the slimy ogbono soup is really amusing. 😆
Mark, it is amazing to see how much of African cultures have survived the centuries of slavery in the Caribbean. The use of cassava, bananas, plantains, . . . . and the iconic stilt-walkers and masquerade . . . from Barbados to Trinidad to Montserrat . . . these rhythms of life, of cuisine, of using natural ingredients persist, reflecting the ancient roots of the people who were stolen from the continent up to 400 years ago.
this is why i love mark..and his blogs...he is very humble and how he appreciate others people food and effort...soooo great😍😍😍
I am so happy to hear the lady’s speak my language which is called #Mahouka 🇨🇮 a proud Ivorian I am 🤍

What you do is so special, Mark. I travel through you. I learn so much. Thank you for what you are doing!
My Favorite episode Mark, I was think to myself, I hope will go north west to experience all the delicious food we have there. And you sure did it.
The slimy sauce “kplé” or “Lé” is my favorite dish of all time
Thank you Mark!!!
love how much Mark is showing the world 🥰
thank you so much Mark for showing my country this beautiful way !
Fantastic! I loved the enthusiasm of the lady getting you to 'mange' while you've barely swallowed the current handful! Loved the masquerade dance, loved everything! The rice cake is called 'masa' in Nigeria, made without the banana, and eaten with 'suya' (local barbecued meat) and suya pepper called 'yaji' (dry ground chillies and ginger and salt mix). Thanks Mark! REALLY enjoyed this Ivorian series.👏👏👏
Mucilaginous is the word for what is called "slimey".
The soups that are mucilaginous help the fufu/ pounded yam/ tapioca (the food that looked like a fluffy cloud of mash potato), anyway, it helps it pass with ease through the intestines. Another benefit, is that it nourishes the intestines and helps aid with elimination, so less constipation.
Western foods lack these mucilaginous foods (and they could benefit to incorporate it). If you go to African-influenced cultures like Creole and Gullah-Geechee in the US, where they may cook with okra and sometimes they don't fry it, and ii is used in different stew dishes called gumbo, you might get the okra-draw. It's delicious.
Drop a note if your culture has food dishes or herbal remedies that are mucilaginous . . .
American indigenous remedies utilize the mucilaginous component to help alleviate constipation and other energetic blocks with the digestive system, this plant is called slippery elm.
Mark does such a great job at Being Human and humane, deeply respectful and full of passion for enjoying and sharing cultures around the world through the one thing ALL HUMANS subsist off of: FOOD. Thank you Mark for setting the mark!
Perhaps humans can regain their collective humanity, learn what Love is, and learn to connect across cultures for there are more similarities than differences.
Mark, I saw all those chili bonnets the first Madam Chef casually placed into the stews, I cried for the HEAT coming your way, but you showed no sign that peppers even existed in the dish, like nil. HOW?! I'm done, like how, not even drinking water. You're officially a chili pepper in human form. :) Thank you for sharing world culture and cuisines respectfully.
