COTE D’IVOIRE - Today we’re making our way down the Atlantic coast of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) to eat some of the best seafood along the way!
A huge thank you to my friend Mo Soumahoro from Belle Côte d’Ivoire ( / bellecotedivoire ) for arranging my trip and setting up everything!
Chez Miss Zahoui (goo.gl/maps/pmzYVERNDMzXe6bn8) - We’re starting this Ivorian food tour in Abidjan to eat one of the most famous foods in all of Cote d’Ivoire - acheke (Attiéké), made from cassava. It’s one of the national dishes and something that nearly everyone eats - and today we’ll be eating a lot of it. We’re starting with Ivorian fish fry at Chez Miss Zahoui, with acheke, and lots of fresh chili sauces.
Grand-Lahou (goo.gl/maps/rQDc3remLbXQDDPm9) - The next day we continued our journey to Grand-Lahou an island or peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean. We were hosted by Mr Niamba and his family of the Avikam tribe. Along with many local seafood dishes, they cooked a delicacy and rarely seen dish - African catfish cooked for two days!
San-Pedro (goo.gl/maps/k7xRJ41jLYnCj8d8A) - We continued to San-Pedro where we viisted the local fish market and saw the fresh catch of the day. Then we met up with Chef Grace Emmanuella of Enotel Beach San-Pedro who cooked Soup du pêcheur’ (Fisherman’s soup) with the fresh fish, lobster, and slipper lobster directly from the fish market.

I have always loved the Ivory Coast, but to see the different less known areas and the village presented so beautifully is really touching. Africa's most important resource and wealth are really the people. They are everything. That food represents culture and history, bringing everyone at one table and even eating from the same plate so peacefully and naturally. Love this 💖

A two-day simmering love culminates in a fish dish that dances on the palate, while Fufu delicately sways to the rhythm of palm oil. I'm amazed by your adventure exploring incredible seafood dishes in that remote village! Your vivid description of the crispy and soft fish with onions and chilies made my taste buds tingle. The onion sauce enhances the flavors even more. I can imagine the different textures and flavors of each fish you tried, from silky smooth to thick and rich.
The journey to the remote village with its unique geography and diverse seafood offerings sounds unforgettable. The local delicacy "oh yeah" made from African catfish cooked for two days is fascinating! The dedication to traditional cooking methods and love for culinary creations by the locals are evident.
The Fufu made from boiled plantains and palm oil sounds mouthwatering, and the delicate mashing and drizzle of fragrant palm oil add an artistic touch to the meal.
Your excitement and appreciation for the delicious food and warm hospitality of the village people are palpable. Your journey brings the experience to life, and I feel like I was there with you on this food adventure. Thank you for sharing this amazing culinary exploration!

I have such an obsession with watching African food videos , especially with voice overs , unfortunately where I live , we don’t have any real authentic African cuisine but I look forward to visiting Africa one day and just completely indulging 🤤

@@saraha.2454 there are many West African restaurants in AZ. Just did a simple Google search "African restaurants in Arizona" and I am seeing Nigerian, Liberian, Beninese, Ethiopian, Arab etc so you are spoilt for choice lol. I wish I had this many near me. So far no Ivorian restaurants as no Ivorian has decided to take up the challenge of opening the first one 😀

@@saraha.2454there are a lot of Africans in the US and AZ in particular. If you befriend one there are good chances they would invite you to eat. We are very proud of our culture and food.

@@QueenyKay not where I live , we have two African restaurants here & the Africans don’t even eat there (they are not owned by Africans) 💀 and I have many African friends because they attend masque & university with me. If you recall Africa is quite a large continent and each countries cuisine is different. What’s wrong with me saving my first Experience with this beautiful cuisine for when I visit Africa ? Lol
